5 comments about Falconry For Beginners.
- Very informative, but of course I did not have any idea of what Falconry was prior to reading the book. I bought the book for a nephew of mine, who happened to obtain a baby hawk. He nurtured the bird from a very young age. The book was to improve his knowledge on how to take care of the bird. I had somebody else order the book for me - Darlyn Cobb" , that is why I am doing the review. Thanks.
- This book gives good insight into the world of Falconry and the many items needed to become a Falconer. The one drawback is its author is English and deals with laws in England which are different then here in the United States.
Anyone interrested in the sport would benifit from reading this book. The author gives both pros and cons which helps guide the reader to answer the question if Falconry is for you.
- It is a very helpful book. But sadly, the pound and the dollar arent the same, and the price specifications are almost no use to me.I don't know if any thing else is different,so you will have to figure that out yourself.
- I was at the stage where my own European Eagle Owl was flying free and ready for the next stage of training as we progressed (hopefully) to the day when he would take a rabbit. Having read books by other author's (including one called "Falconry" in which the subject of falconry itself is not even covered!) I needed the right book - and I needed it now.
When the book first arrived it looked as though it might end up being a 4 Star book - but I was wrong. You see, each and every book I review (and I have reviewed several hundred), commences with a full quota of 5 stars. Stars may then be lost for any number of reasons - but they have to be lost through some shortcoming of the book itself. There are no shortcomings here.
The book measures 9½in x 6¼in (24cm x 16cm) and contains 150 pages. It is well laid out, well written and well illustrated. The subjects range from an introduction to the subject of falconry, getting started, equipment (and it's all in there!), your first bird, care, illnesses, rules of the sport and the law.
Not only did I come to the book with a lot of questions, but as I read the book (some sections more than once) I found myself asking yet more questions. It says much for the competence of this author that all the answers were found - within the book itself. I have already adopted the author's prescribed method of intruding a Rabbit lure to my bird - and it's working.
In short, I am so delighted with this book that I could not find a single reason to deduct one star. The reader gets exactly what it says on the cover; This is a book about "Falconry for Beginners" and an excellent one at that.
NM
- this was my first book on the subject and it was close to useless.for a real book try the complete falconer by frank beebe or falconry and hawking by philip glasier.

3 comments about All About Breeding Lovebirds.
- I bought this book hoping it would go a little in more depth on what to expect when eggs are laid and what happens when they begin to hatch but it is basically a book that tells you a little of everything about lovebirds. The photo's were nice and the information was good but it wasn't what I expected.
- I read the book from cover to cover and found it to be very helpful in points about breeding lovebirds. Still finding out the sex of the lovebirds seems to be somewhat of a mystery, I foudn the book to be very entertaining and useful in what I was looking for. I would recommend this book to anyone.
- ALL ABOUT BREEDING LOVEBIRDS, by Mervyn Roberts includes a nice section on Nutrition that covers what the little guys eat in the wild, where they apparently behave much like Crows in the States and plow up newly planted items in your garden as well as attacking mature fruits and seeds. Roberts book does not go into nearly as much genetic detail as Dr. D'Angieri's ATLAS or John Coborn's PROFESSIONAL BOOK OF LOVEBIRDS but it is accessible, and it includes many beautiful photographs (many of them black and white), and a great deal of information about breeding. The book is a little bit older than the two mentioned above, but the information included is not dated. I gave my granddaughter Anne Appleyard's THE LOVEBIRD HANDBOOK, a newer publication that covers everything a 12-year old needs to know.
Roberts includes an annotated list of other books on Lovebirds in the last pages of the book but as his book was published in 1983, publications printed since then won't be included, such as Ann Appleyard's LOVEBIRD HANDBOOK which I have found very helpful.

5 comments about Every Dog's Legal Guide: A Must-have Book for Your Owner.
- Dog law is another outstanding legal book by Nolo press. I got the book because I was having problems with my neighbor's five barking dogs. I wanted to be informed of my rights before I confronted my neighbor. Although I had no luck coming to a compromise with my neighbor regarding the dogs (he is a crazy, paranoid, drug-addicted redneck), it was empowering to know my rights. The only small complaint was that it did not include state laws, but that may be beyond the scope of this book.
- If you are thinking about buying a dog (it explains puppy mills, contracts to consider when you buy a dog and licensing laws); you already have a dog (laws you might want to consider even if you're sure your dog is always well-behaved and how to get dog insurance); you want to provide for your dog after your death (what may or may not work in your will); you hate your neighbor's dog's barking (how to talk to your neighbor or seek mediation, or your liability if you are cruel or provoke the dog) or if you suspect your neighbor's dog is mistreated or are in any other way concerned about dogs: YOU NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. There is much more covered than what I have put here.
I expected to read a few key chapters, but ended up reading it cover to cover. It contains interesting facts throughout (have you ever thought about the number of dogs injured/killed by riding in the back of a pick-up truck?), history of dog laws, real cases and the rulings in those cases (though obviously missing the recent case of Ms. Whipple's murder); and sound, common-sense advice whether it is written in the law or not. For the sake of the dogs and the people who own or are around them, I hope everybody will read this book.
- Now in a revised and updated 4th edition, Dog Law is a straightforward and comprehensive legal guide for dog owners -- and the neighbors of dog owners. Dog Law explains, in plan English terms easily accessible to the lay person, what the laws mandates with regard to barking dogs, dangerous dogs, cruelty to animals, dog bites, if a dog is injured or killed, and much more. Dog Law is a superbly presented, user friendly reference, and a "must" for dog owners, as well as for anyone else who might have a legal bone to pick!
- I bought this book (Dog Law) years ago since I am a dog owner who would like to be aware of my rights and the rights of my dogs. Dog Law, By Mary Randolph is now in it's third publication, and I highly recommend it to all dog owners. Not only does the author focus on simple leash laws, barking cases, landlord restrictions, traveling with your dog, etc., but the author also focuses on criminal abuse cases and acts as a referral contact if you need help in the legal process yourself with a dog legal situation.
- Dog Law gives a great overview of all sorts of legislation concerning dogs. Many owners know about general dog laws, like leash laws and curbing you dog, but Randolph covers much more. Things like dangerous dog laws, puppy lemon laws and laws concering veterinarians are covered. This book however, does not provide specific laws for individual states. Overall it is a great reference for the responsible dog owner.

2 comments about Rats.
- This book is more from a scientific point of view. I found it very interesting to read about the differences and similiarties between wild and pet rats. It also has a good chapter on food and what to feed them and why, which I found helpful and important. While this is not a book for a small child, it is good for those who are interested in not only the care and feeding for rats but also the scientific points about rats.
- Not a great book, but perfect for someone who's just starting out with pet rats. It covers all the basic stuff: caging, how to choose your rats, etc. but thats about it, and it has hardly any information on handling and socializing rats, or much on their health. I wouldn't pass this book up, but you should also consider a more detailed book if you really want the best for your pet rats.

2 comments about Dancing With Dogs: Easy-to-learn Techniques and Fun Routines for You and Your Dog.
- Mary Ray, one of the best freestyle dancers in the world, has done an excellent job in writing this book for all those who want to learn more about doing Freestyle with their dogs. It gives step by step instructions using pictures and diagrams on how to teach certain moves making them very easy to follow. It gives ideas of what kind of moves look good in a dance including starting and finishing poses. There is a section on how to plan a dance out on paper, including music, props and costumes. It concludes with an entire section of Mary Rays dance routines with an explanation of the moves, costumes and music. This book is a "must have" to both the novice and the more advanced freestyle enthusiast.
- I'm giving the book a paws up. The layout is very inviting -
spacious with lots of pictures and easy to read. From cover to cover,
the book probably takes about 2 hours to read. To perform all the
training and routines in the book would take a lifetime.
Some of the information is very general - clicker training on a single
page. However, the general information does includes the most
important aspects of training concepts.
Much of the strength of the book is in the Dance Routines shown in the
later chapters. She's got routines for Star and Stripes, Singing in
the Rain, Puppet on a String, and others. She outlines the steps and
tricks in the routine and supplements the written description with
pictures. She suggests music to use with the routines, films to watch,
and tips for improving your performance.
The book would be a fabulous resource for a 4H club, anyone trying to
put together his or her first routine, or an expercienced freestyler
looking for some new ideas. A book you might refer to over and over, picking up something new each time. At the price you can't beat it.

1 comments about Questions and Answers on Saltwater Aquarium Fishes: Understanding Behavior for Successful Fishkeeping.
- So often Humanity dismisses fish as stupid creatures who only think of survival. "Saltwater Aquarium Fishes: Understanding Behavior for Successful Fish Keeping" is an examination of the common household saltwater fish kept in modern home aquariums - and their instinctual roots in the coral reefs, which act as virtual cities for the scores of fish species found there. Claiming you can learn a lot about how to care about fish by understanding them, "Saltwater Aquarium Fishes: Understanding Behavior for Successful Fish Keeping" is a top pick for any aquarium keeper or community library pets collection.

- This book would be great if it was about the horses of the islands. The whole book focuses on the islands and not the horses. Save your money on this one. Im returning mine.
- This book was extremely well done. Along with its amazing photography, it contained factual information helping to describe the lives of the Chincoteague ponies. It is a must read for all horse lovers of all ages.
- Magnificent photographs with informative text.

5 comments about One on One: A Dog Trainer's Guide to Private Training.
- This book, along with 'So you want to be a dog trainer' are must-haves for any trainer's library. Incredibly useful, even for experienced trainers. If you need help devising an overall plan, you need this book. Contracts, questionnaires, hand-out ideas, etc.... Excellent, and time saving!!!
- Great book for all trainers. Another handy tool to have in the trainer's tool box.
Thanks Mike
- I purchased this book when I'd already been in business as a professional dog trainer for almost 3 years; I found so much helpful information, especially regarding contracts, lesson packages, and history forms and why I needed them. There were many other miscellaneous tidbits that transformed how I run my business as a whole. This book should be on every dog trainer's book shelf.
- So many books are geared towards training methods and theory. This one is written for trainers planning on venturing into the realm of private training. It's well written and full of useful information, much of which one might not consider prior to establishing a business and taking on that first client. Especially helpful were Nicole Wilde's chapters on phone skills and scripts. These chapters would benefit anyone who conducts dog-related interviews on the phone regardless of whether you do private training or not. Shelter staff, volunteers and anyone involved in dog rescue can improve their interview skills with this book. Also included are business resources, sample contracts and sample history questionaires. A great return on the investment spent reading this one. Highly recommended.
- I was so glad to find this book! I started out doing group classes and had wanted to do in-home training for some time but couldn't find anyone to apprentice with. I didn't have the confidence to do private lessons because even though my training skills are good, I didn't know HOW to do private lessons. This book not only gives you tests to judge whether you really are ready to do one on one training, but gives an amazing amount of information. It talks about structuring your sales, how to do a lesson from start to finish, how to handle coaching owners, and covered a ton of questions that I had been wondering about like what to do if you have to recommend euthanasia, how do I work with more than one dog in the home, and what do to if an owner just isn't getting it. One of the things I liked best (other than the book being an easy read and being written in a friendly, supportive tone) was the sections at the back that had liability contracts I could use, great handouts I could copy and give my clients, and a lot of helpful resources. This book is definitely a great resource for any trainer who wants to start to do private training and even for those who have already been doing it a while, as Wilde has a lot of great ideas and tips.

5 comments about Pomeranian: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- This is a very helpful book and I would recommend it to anyone that is getting a new pomeranian.
- This is a great book to describe the basics of living with your pom. The author has a friendly tone and seems to have a lot of experience with poms of her own. It really reviews everything you need to know...training, feeding, grooming...the works! I just adopted a two year old dog and this book is great because it doesn't focus on the puppy years only. It addresses that time well, but gives wonderful overall advice. Great buy!
- this book was a great informational. i had to borrow it from the library before b/c i bought another book which was horrible. this book gives you step by step insructions on how to take care of your pom.
- I own two pomerananians and have several books on them. This book is one of the best. The writer gives great information on them.
- This book was the most outstanding book i have ever read on Pomeranians..It has helped me and my daughter go through the tough times when we got our new puppy. If u are looking on buying a POMERANIAN i suggest you buy this book! Thanks POM
