5 comments about Pets and Their Celebrities.
- Wonderful book. Since I'm an animal lover and a celebrity junkie, this was the best of both worlds. It makes a great coffee table book.
- I purchased this book for use in a veterinary hospital waiting area. Overall it is a beautiful celebration of the human-animal bond. Unfortunately the pictorial of Robbie Williams with a leashed, lingerie-clad woman at his feet is an inappropriate addition and is degrading to women. It's hard to understand why the author chose to include it.
- This book donates a part of their proceeds for Last Chance for Animals, which is a great reason to get it and help out at the same time. The pictures are black and white but are very well done. The photographer really shows the bond between owner and pet. There are some celebrities posing with 'borrowed' pets but the animals look to be enjoying it just the same. In looking through the book there were celebrities like Paul Stanley, Ozzy Ossbourne and Ice-T.
As a dog lover I just couldn't pass this book up. One of our kids is a rescued shelter dog so I know the joy these animals give back for being given a second chance. They are forever grateful for the new life they've been given, believe me (ours is STILL thanking us :-) ).
- This book really is really filled with warmth. The mixer of celebrities is a real pleasure from the old to the current. The photographer has a real talent for capturing the love between these people and their pets. I have seen this book featured in many well respected magazines such as People, In Style, New York Times, Page Six (New York Post) as well as many Television shows. From reading the intro to this book by the Photographer/Author he really worked this project hard and stood for what he believed in. For a first time Author/Photographer he really nailed the subject as well as the photos. This is a must for people who enjoy animals as well as celebrities. I bought two for gifts and my friends are thrilled to own this book. I also read a great review about Christopher Ameruoso from the very well respected (Popular Photography magazine web site) not bad work Christopher good luck...
- I have an autographed copy of this book - Chris turns out to live in my building, so I took advantage of his good nature :)
I met Stella too - a real cutie and full of character. She could make a movie or two in her own right... If you love animals it's always interesting to see the types of animal that other people bond with, and Chris has compiled an interesting collection of photos of personalities and their pets (and in some cases, personalities with borrowed pets), along with idiosyncratic cartoons, poems and other literary gems peppered throughout the book. The list of people featured reads like a Who's Who of showbiz, music and media excellence: Pamela Anderson, Julianna Moore, William H. Macy, Geri Haliwell, Kate Hudson, Brendan Fraser, Afton Fraser, Rosanna Arquette, Janeane Garofalo, Lisa Rinna, Rachel Hunter, Dean Cain, Bo Derek, James Caan, Angelica Bridges, Slash, Tipi Hedren, Tatjana Patitz, Natasha Henstridge, Christine Taylor, Natalie Raitano, Dustin Nguyen, Ice-T, Elizabeth Barondes, Illeana Douglas, Paulie Shore, Diane Warren, David Alan Grier, Kristen Johnston, Vincent Schiavelli, Lisa Marie, Deborah Mazar, Garcelle Beauvais, Amy Smart, Scott Baio, Gina Gershon, Sheryl Lee, Michael Des Barres, Joel West, Mariska Hargitay, Ashley Hamilton, Sara Foster, Wild Orchid, Alison Eastwood, Paul Stanley, Paula Abdul, Harv Presnell, Nicolette Sheridan, Brian Green, Joely Fisher, Connie Stevens, Jason Wiles, John Taylor, Christina Applegate, Bernie Taupin, Faith Ford, Ozzy Osbourne, Kidada Jones, Felicity Huffman, Kari Wuhrer, William Atherton, Jillian Barberie, Sally Kellerman, Harold Becker, Phil Collen, Maureen O'Boyle, Jeffrey Tambor, Sally Struthers, John Taylor, Angie Everhart, Tim Burton, DeDee Pfeiffer, Ben Stiller, Robbie Williams, Shannen Doherty, Rob Lowe, Cheri Oteri, Anthony Kiedes, Rose McGowan, Courtney Cox Arquette, David Arquette and Fred Durst. Many of the animals featured in this book owe their existence to being rescued by their celebrity owners (and my wife and I have two rescued cats so we know something of the difficulties that such owners can face - rescued animals often have traumatic histories to contend with). It's nice to see celebs getting involved in caring for their fellow creatures; while it may be true that actors shouldn't *work* with children or animals it doesn't mean that they can't *live* in harmony and love with them. A portion of the author's proceeds from the sales of this book will go to Last Chance for Animals, which is also nice - buying this book is therefore a constructive way of helping out animals who might have no other chance for life.

2 comments about Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).
- I am studying to be a writer and one subject that interests me very much is that of the awesome Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. When I needed material to base my subject on, you had it. It arrived in outstanding order and I am very happy with my purchase. Thank you.
- This book is an excellent resource not only for training and caring for my new cavalier, but also very informative about their colorful history. I still refer to it often, and my dog is now 3 years old. I credit this book for helping me achieve success in training and understanding her.

5 comments about The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beagles.
- As the owner of a rescue beagle, I found this book to be incredibly helpful. This book provides a full range of history about this delightful breed of hound. I was able to determine what materials and equipment my hound would need. It is an excellent book for all owners of beagles, from happy pet owners to people interested in showing their hounds. My beagle is a lovable and trusty pet, so I was mainly interested in the parts aimed at pet owners.
A good book and no doubt beagle owners and those who love beagles will enjoy it as well.
- This book is helpful to any beagle owner. It covers all of the basics and goes into plenty of detail for just about anything you might want to know about your beagle or to consider when thinking about welcoming a beagle into your family. The book does go into quite a bit of detail about breed standards and AKC events and whatnot. Unfortunately if you don't have an AKC registered dog none of this pertains to you. Good intentions abound, but the level of snobbery in the AKC will keep plenty of good dogs (maybe even better *gasp* dogs) from field and agility trials. This isn't a downfall of the book, but if you're like me and have a rescued or adopted beagle, or even one thats just been fixed, much of this book is useless as it pertains to AKC or Nat'l Beagle Club trials and events. I would have liked to see just a little more coverage of training and behavioral issues, but the information overall is pertinant and usefull. Whether you have a registered beagle or not this book is a good tool and packs plenty of bang for the buck.
- Having grown up with a beagle, I thought I knew this breed, but author Kim Campbell Thornton pleasantly surprised me with new facts and insights into all that is Beagle. Her book covers everything you need from nose to the white tip of the tail. I especially enjoyed the Beagle Bonus pullout boxes. This is a must read for anyone blessed to have a Beagle in their life.
- Just had to comment on The Complete Idiot's Guide to Beagles...a couple of years ago I decided that I'd like to have a beagle again...I had one during my teen years...and thought that a little research was in order. I was right and this book covered so many facets of beagle behavior that I realized that I would have to learn to accomodate if I was to have a meaningful realtionship with one of the little darlings. The book gave me a much better idea of what my expectations should be and what kinds of compromises and precautions I would have to make to make beagle ownership a joy and not a trial for both me and the dog.
Both Poochie and I give it five stars!
- Found this book to be the answer to all. Very enlightening!

4 comments about The Rosetta Bone: The Key to Communication Between Humans and Canines (Howell Dog Book of Distinction).
- This book raised my consciousness about the two way communication between dog and owner. It doesn't give many step by step directions about training but that can be found in reference books at the end of the book. Perhaps understanding the relatiionship with our pets is a bigger step before attempting specific training. I found myself much more sensitive to my dog after reading this.
- This was a superb book. It confirmed so many things I knew about dogs...the very same things I had a difficult time convincing "expert" trainers about! It also taught me quite a few things by clarifying the subtle differences between several canine messages, by explaining the different behaviors of certain breeds of dogs, and by clearing up the issues of common misinformation.
This is a beautifully structured book. I was comfortable enough to read straight through it in two sittings. The sidebar exercises were fun and informative. The gentle training methods used in this book work with the dog's natural behaviors, easing stress on both species. Not to be forgotten, the book was a lot of fun, too.
Included in the index is a nice resource section packed with websites, mailing addresses, and telephone numbers of noteworthy organizations. There are even sections in the book that touch briefly on canine massage techniques and the possibility of telepathic communication with dogs. Chapter 12 deals solely with various events and competitions dogs can enter and enjoy.
This is a great book for anyone interested in strengthening the bond they share with their canine companion(s).
- It's an awesome book. Very interesting and informational.
- The Rosetta Bone is the best dog training, dog communication, human/pet love stories book I have ever read (and I have a shelf full to which I often refer). Learning to read my dogs' body language and gaining an awareness of how they read mine, has opened a new dimension of fun and sharing in our relationship. They and I are more responsive to each other and take more joy in the time we spend together each day. This book is a must read for the person acquiring their first dog, experiencing behavior problems with a current animal, or wanting to communicate with their dog on a deeper level. Cheryl Smith's insights into how dogs communicate (top dogs give a disdainful look--they don't jerk misbehavig subordinates or roll them on their back) turns training into play time and enhances the dog's life with its people. Thanks to the Rosetta Bone the time I spend with my dogs is more relaxed and joyful. Thanks Cheryl Smith--you've done the dog loving world a great favor with this great book!

5 comments about The Simple Guide To Planted Aquariums (Simple Guide to...).
- After reading several books about the same topic, This one is easy, simple and clear to understand, as the title expose. It introduce you as beginner or expert in an understandable language and help you step by step on what you nned to know about the hobbie. If your are plannig to have a planted aquarium, this is a MUST READ BOOK.!!!!
- This book was too complicated for the beginner and too superficial for everybody else. While all the photos of plants contained more than one type of plant, the caption failed to identify more than one type and it was never clear which plant the caption was referring too. Many of the more complicated topics were treated so superficially as to be of any use to anybody and should have been left out entirely
- The authors have done an excellant job of describing water chemistry and the reasons various filtration systems work. pH, KH, hardness, nitrites, and nitrates are all covered. Testing and correction of water deficiencies are described very well. The explanation of Kingdoms of platnts, animals, etc. is very enlightening. The different catagories of plants are also covered as well as their use in an aquarium. Fish that are compatible with a planted aquarium are also suggested.
- I've kept planted aquariums for a number of years, but was intrigued by this book because one of the co-authors is a well-known advocate of low-tech planted tanks.
The format of this book is VERY nice. The writing is friendly and inviting, and there are lots of pretty full color photos. Personally, I didn't learn a whole lot of new information, but it was a pleasant read nonetheless. I would certainly recommend it to someone just entering the hobby, or someone looking for an overview on planted tanks, especially if they're seeking some guidance on what type of planted tank is the best fit for them - high tech, low tech, biotope, etc. All around, a very good presentation, and an excellent invitation to exploring planted aquariums!
