1 comments about What Goldens Teach Us: Life's Lessons Learned From Golden Retrievers.

  1. This is not a great informative book, however, it does have some beautiful, whimsical and cute photographs of Golden Retreivers. Occassionally, it also is thought provoking in a sentimental or philosophical sense. Worth having on your coffee table or in your reception area.

  1. Interested in Labradors? Thinking of incorporating one in your family life? This title contains necessary information about labs reaching from "choosing a puppy" to "hunting training". It neither a big training manual nor a small photo album of labs. It is exactly what you need to get started with your new puppy. Enjoy it!

5 comments about Blue Dog - Note Cards.

  1. I received exactly what I ordered and quickly. I have a friend who admires my silkscreens and I want to give her these cards for Chanukah.

  2. I love these note cards. While my husband and I lived in Louisiana we went to George Rodrigue's gallery and fell in love with the Blue Dog. I just had to have these notecards!

  3. I collect the Blue Dog Calendars for the art (a Blue Dog for every week of the year!). Rodrigue now has a new publisher/printer and the change is very noticable. The calendar for 2004 looks more childlike, with a garish bright yellow background on the cover and bright yellow plastic spiral spine (don't know what else to call it). The print quality is not as good as past calendars either. However, it is a great deal for the price. I LOVE the page with Louis Armstrong and Blue Dog. I've only seen this print in expensive Jazz Fest posters.

  4. If you like Blue Dog (and I do!), you will love these cards. It's not clear in the description, but this set comes with 15 total cards - 3 each of 5 designs. The box is a real collectable, too. I'll buy more - to send and to frame!

  5. I liked them so much I orderd two more boxes. Now I have one to use, one to frame and one to keep untouched by human hands. The box they come in is as nice as the cards themselves.

2 comments about Understanding Border Collies.

  1. My fiancee and I recently made the decision to follow through with our dream of having a border collie. We've read other breed-specific books (after getting our other dog, a Shetland sheepdog) and came away unimpressed. Most of them provide basic, general dog-ownership advice and common sense. So, yes, we understand that we will need to give the border collie much more time and mental/physical exercise than a typical breed. We have also read plenty of horror stories of restless border collies destroying its owner's home to varying degrees. I bought this book, with limited information in the description, in the hope that it would have breed-specific information that I couldn't find just surfing the internet.

...And it really paid off! Clearly the author has great expertise with respect to border collies and is not afraid to share opinions and impressions that, while not necessarily universal, could be helpful to prospective owners. (e.g. The author believes that coat length and ear shape may give a hint on a puppy's energy level.) What I like, in particular, is that the author provides as much advice for owners seeking mere companionship (like us) as for those seeking working dogs.

I just finished the section regarding specific dietary issues of border collies, and found it very helpful. (I was surprised to learn that the premium dog food we give to our finicky sheltie would probably send a non-working border collie through the roof!)

If I was to find any complaint about the book, it would be that the photographs in the book are not in color. I also wouldn't mind if it were a touch cheaper, given that it's only 157 pages.

These pages, however, are clear, well-written and chalk-full of valuable breed-specific information (and with almost nothing that is just general dog-ownership common sense). I'm sure that this book saved us any number of "incidents" (aka "learning experiences") and will only make our future border collie (and its owners) a great deal happier in the future.

  2. Excellent contents, very explicit and specific.
This book is the real deal in the BC world, I found it really complete and its really helpful, you need to read this in order to have a healthy relationship with your pet or working Border Collie.

2 comments about Silky Terrier: A Comprehensive Guide to Owning and Caring for Your Dog (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).

  1. WOW! This book is great! Lots of great information on the Silky Breed. We breed our Silky Terrier once a year and This is one of the two Silky Terrier Books that we give to all our New silky Terrier Families.
These dogs are wonderful dogs, not yappy and they have a soft silky coat of HAIR, not fur. If you have alergies this is a great breed of dog. Wife has alergies and we got 3!! Some of our friends have yorkies and after we got our silkies they wished they had found the silky breed first.
I like to call them "A Mans Yorkie"! They are twice the size of a yorkshire terrier, they don't have wirey hair, they are stronger which makes them less suseptible to the medical problems yorkies have. A Silky is an Austrailian Terrier and a Yorkshire Terrier Mix. The breed name came from the LONG, Silky Soft hair the breed has.
Beautiful, wonderful, loving, devoted, loyal, great watch dogs, not yappy!
If you are looking for a toy breed, I think everyone should at least check out this breed before you buy a puppy.

  2. Good book talking about facts, personalties, health issues, discipline, etc of the Silky Terrier. Also contains many pictures.
Advice: good to have before you get your Silky !

3 comments about Your Healthy Garden Pond (Interpet Handbooks).

  1. I used Interpet Products available from my local garden centre and I decided to check out some of the books advertised with their products and so ordered the "Your Healthy Garden Pond".
I have read this book and found it a very useful reference, easy to read and with good illustrations. I would recommend it to anyone with a small garden pond.

  2. This is a very good book for those who already have a pond. It does not get into the design and construction of ponds, but concentrates on maintaining the pond you have. This is exactly what I was looking for. I did not need to design or construct a pond; however, I did need the knowledge to maintain an existing pond, and this book fit the bill perfectly.

    It covers:
    * Water quality - the nitrogen cycle and what tests you need to perform
    * Filtration - types of filters, filter media, cleaning filters
    * Algae and plants - types of plants and how to grow them, how to contain algae
    * Fish - the different types of fish suitable for a pond and how to diagnose problems
    * Pond cleaning - when and how to clean the pond
    * Seasonal maintenance. - fall and winter preparations

Also this book is illustrated with many full color pictures so you can see clearly what the author is talking about.

  3. Borrowed this book from the library but have to buy it. It's a good reference and does great explanations. Real helpful for a novice like me.

4 comments about The Home Spa Book for Dogs: Nose to Tail Treatments to Soothe the Soul and Age-Proof Your Canine Companion.

  1. A Unique book to say the least. Got it for a gift and its pretty interesting. Funny too!

  2. This book makes me want to open up my own pet spa. Good information and wonderful ways you can spoil your pooch.

  3. Even though this book had "Search Inside" option and I checked it, I thought it would provide more info for our fur baby.

  4. If you're a SERIOUS dog parent (and by that I mean you have no human children or you totally love your canine to death) this book is for YOU! I collect Dog books, Dog magazines and this had information I had never found in other Dog books. It was very informative and user friendly. You could easily read this book in less than a week. Doesn't your furbaby deserve the best?!? I think so!
    A MUST READ!
