1 comments about English Regional Chair.
- This superb reference volume examines the English regional chair (particularly windsor and ladderback types) as a vernacular tradition of craft and design. It is more comprehensive than any other book ever written on antique furniture. A work of the very highest calibre by a most respected, insightful and dedicated scholar. Study in this field, often inspired by this extraordinary work, is still continued with great enthusiasm. It simply cannot be bettered!

5 comments about Lamps of the '50s & '60s (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- I AGREE WITH TUCSON, AZ IN THAT THIS IS A NEAT LITTLE REFERENCE BOOK IF YOU LIKE COLLECTING GREAT FUNKY, VINTAGE LAMPS. IT WAS THE FIRST LAMP BOOK I COULD FIND WHEN I STARTED COLLECTING AND THOUGH THE BOOK VALUE PRICES ARE VERY LOW FOR TODAY'S CURRENT MARKET, I WAS ABLE TO GET A "ROUGH" ESTIMATE ON WHAT MINE WERE WORTH. A LITTLE HISTORY BEHIND EACH LAMP WOULD BE NICE, AND THIS BOOK COULD USE A PRICE UPDATING AND SOME CLEARER PICTURES, BUT OVERALL, IF YOU CAN FIND A USED COPY CHEAP, IT IS WORTH HAVING.
- This was released in 1997, before Ebay and the lamp craze of the 50's and 60's hit its resurgance. It was the very first lamp book I purchased, and the only one with 'funky' lamps that I could find at the time. I found it to be very enjoyable, and a great reference to help me start my vintage lamp - collecting hobby. Though the pictures are a little blurry, and the prices very low, keep in mind that the market is constantly going up, and some are VERY collectible now, bringing in top dollars. If you can find a nice used copy of this book, buy it!
- what a jip. the cover shot has these cool looking lamps and all but once you open the rest of the book it turns out to be a blurry mess. does this publishing company have a computer? Hello is anybody in there? some of the worst lamps i have ever seen are represented in this book.mrs lindenberger should at least do some research on the prices these lamps regularly sell for. perhaps by checking on eBAY. come to think of it between Ms. Lindenberger and schiffer publishing they have put out more trash price guides than singer made sewing machines.Dont Judge a book by it's cover is definately appropriate in this case.
- although some of the pictures are not the best, I personaly enjoyed looking at all the quirky lamps. (there are some really outa-this-world looking lamps in this book.) If you want to see some really over the top lamps, check out this book.
- This is typical of the work (or lack thereof) of Jan Lindenberger. Lousy pics, little or no product or maker information and completely off base pricing "guide". Don't waste your money on ANY of this "authors" titles if you want accurate information. Shame on you, Ms. Lindenberger and Schiffer Publishing for cranking out this low caliber garbage.

1 comments about Sitting on the Edge: Modernist Design from the Collection of Michael and Gabrielle Boyd.
- Sitting on the Edge: Modernist Design, is a well put together book, and a rare find in modern furnishing circles. A great review of Michael and Gabrielle Boyd's collection, which as one can see by the list, is stunning. The pictures of the pieces in the collection though are the catch all. Full page photographs, beautiful type, well laid out, and a great collection at one's finger tips, I personally couldn't ask for more, except perhaps the actual pieces of furniture in the collection. If you love Modernist furniture, go with this one!

1 comments about Making Authentic Country Furniture: With Measured Drawings of Museum Classics.
- I purchased this book in 1978. I have made several of the pieces described in the book by using the measured drawings. I made the "hutch-table chair out of Butternut and several other pieces out of Cherry. I cannot tell you how valuable the book is to a cabinet maker. It shows a picture of the piece and then the blueprints. It also describes the old fashioned joinery used. I have personally kiln dried 200 million feet of hardwoods by conventional forced hot air and also ran a "Vacu-Therm" dry kiln system. I also supervised a planning mill with planers, rip saws. band rip saws, straight-line rip saws, moulders, table saws, and end-trimmers. In my 30 years of hardwood background I have never seen a more useful book than this one.

1 comments about Canadian Country Furniture 1675-1950 (Collectables).
- Profusely illustrated with both color & B/W photographs Mr. Bird's book is a comprehensive study of this often overlooked genre. Definitely not just a coffee table edition, it's a scholarly work that people will find themselves turning to again & again. It not only attempts to cover every imaginable form but also provides ethnic & geographical origins relevant to the construction, design, use & decoration of the objects. I heartily reccomend "Canadian country furniture" to you based on the quality of the research & the plain manner in which it is presented. This will prove to be an invaluable reference to the decorator, dealer & collector. Most of all it will be enjoyed by all who enjoy reading about the development of a furniture form & it's historic context. If you've already read & enjoyed this book you'll also find "Painted Furniture of French Canada" by John A. Fleming & "Country Furniture & accessories from Quebec" by Warren L. Johansson worthy candidates to add your collection
