1. I needed a thorough reference to complete an appraisal on 2 19th century Perry & Co. chandeliers. The pictures were gorgeous. The history is very thorough and the chapters on Types of Lighting and Restoration were very helpful. I think I know why chandelier designers and restoration specialists call this the "Bible".

1. There goes a few more of my hard-earned dollars on another misguided purchase. This book is an ideal match for someone with no exposure to antique furniture, and wishing to have an attractive coffee table book in order to impress invited guests. In this regard, the book performs admirably. Sotheby's and Christie's-not to mention a host of other reputable auction houses-have very user-friendly and comprehensive online catalogues equipped with sold lot archives with thousands of colour photographs, detailed historical descriptions, and hammer prices for each lot sold. These online services, and the encyclopedic Miller's series, have rendered "British Antique Furniture" obsolete. The descriptions in "British Antique Furniture" are far from voluminous, and in some instances verge upon the comic, "...made from a dark wood, and a light wood." No, this is not an exaggeration of this book's content, and I now question the sharpness of my wits after spending almost $60 for this lackluster presentation. I would recommend this book only to those who haven't access to a computer to reach Sotheby's online catalogue.



2. The Collector Club books been around for years. This is the recent update of the best British Antique Funiture Price guide and references you could find. Updated and some added. If you value art and don't have this book. Then you are missing a great resources of information.

1. The book gives the reader a look into pricing and into makers marks, it adds a little bit more then normal of dog books.

1. This book is truly superb - and an excellent encyclopedia, filled with tons of useful information. However, I must say don't forget this is a British book. Therefore, you will see references to British Pounds and U.S. Dollars. This is not really a problem, except when you are looking up a specific piece of furniture, which may have a different name in England. That said, I doubt most people will even notice the difference - so, not to worry - just something to keep in mind. I definitely recommend it -the images are incredible and all in color, filling every page cover to cover. It is the best book I've ever seen on antiques. In addition, I bought it at my local bookstore and paid $80.



2. Similar to Understanding Antiques in format, but offers more information. Well written and illustrated with good,clear color photos on every page. This is a must have book for any antique collector.
