4 comments about The Road to Glory.

  1. Wow...what a book and story by Josh Heupel. He is truly an outstanding young man with his head on straight. A must read for all, even if you are not from Oklahoma. I don't live in Oklahoma and just heard about the book.

  2. Josh Heupel is a cut above your average athlete, not in terms of physical ability, but in hard work, dedication, and faith. He was the biggest key (along with Coach Bob Stoops and his staff) to the resurrection of the Oklahoma Sooner football program to national glory. As a diehard Sooner fan, I found this a very enjoyable read. As a Christian, I found it inspirational. Although Josh is listed as the author, it's clear that most of this book was written by his collaborator, who interviewed friends and family to get the full picture of this remarkable young man. There are a few chapters penned by Heupel, including a message he gave at church the Sunday morning following the Big 12 Championship game. The last section details each game of the Sooners championship run, which admittedly will probably only be of interest to Sooner fans (me!) I would like to have seen Josh talk more about the day-to-day experiences, the interaction with teammates and coaches, that type of thing. Maybe it will be up to someone else to write that book. I recommend this book for young people, Oklahoma Sooner fans, and Miami Dolphin fans (the Dolphins drafted him in the sixth round, and if they read this, they'll have no doubt that Heupel will be a great player for them in the NFL). Josh Heupel will be a success in whatever he does, and this book shows you why.

  3. This book will be treasured by Sooner Fans forever. We are very lucky to have had such a great guy lead our team to the NC. Josh is such a wonderful guy and a great leader. Seeing the pictures in the book brought back great memories. This book is a MUST HAVE for any Sooner fan.

  4. Josh Heupel shares his most inner thoughts as he retraces the long road from South Dakota to the hallowed ground of Owen Field at OU. You'll discover a very humble man who wasn't always close to God, but in time turned his life around and achieved the pinnacle of college football. No Sooner fan should miss this book filled with great trivia as well. Thanks for the excitement you gave us Josh and may the road continue to be straight and narrow for you...

1 comments about O.J. Simpson: American Hero, American Tragedy: American Hero, American Tragedy (Pinnacle Biography).

  1. After reading this book, I know more about O.J.'s childhood and career before the infamous murders occured. It is very informative about his days as a football star and an actor. However, I was expecting more about O.J.'s relationship with Nicole. I also did not like the way the book ended. It left you wondering whether or not O.J. is guilty. I really recommend this book if you want to know about O.J. and his rise to fame. I recommend "Raging Heart" by Sheila Weller for an intimate look at the relationship between O.J. and Nicole. Overall, it was a good book.

3 comments about Brett Favre: A Packers Fan's Tribute.

  1. Reviewed by David Olvera for Reader Views (3/07)

"Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" does not mince words and the book stays true to its title. Kertscher evaluates Favre's legendary career from crummy rookie in the pro ranks to NFL god. Rather than a long and microscopic analysis of the patron saint of Lambeau, the author cuts to the chase and offers great snapshots of Favre's career. Favre's beginnings, his hallmark comebacks, the Super Bowl, the MVPs, all laid out in clean episodes.

Kertscher also stays true as a fan. You can easily tell the author is endeared to the Packers and he relates that fandom to the reader. You cannot help but relate to Favre, the Packers, and their fans after reading this book. Sure Favre is an All-American, apple pie, Stars and Stripes kind of guy, but the author's examination of his career and even his addiction to painkillers takes you that much closer to being apart of the Green Bay scene.

I would have liked to have seen closer examinations of his personal life, especially his relationship with his father. Although I am not a Packer fan, the passing of Favre's father and Brett's on-field performance afterward was a profound NFL moment regardless of affiliation. I won't knock the author too much for it though...too close an examination would not fit well with the book's overall theme and feel.

The author's writing style is quick and to the point. I get the feeling that Kertscher isn't going for a Pulitzer and that makes the book very versatile. You can hand this book to any child and they could easily become a "Cheese Head." A great coffee table or waiting room piece...or simply what the title says...a book for fans. "Brett Favre: A Packer Fan's Tribute" is not the essential autobiography of Favre, but its strength is in its candid approach to the career of an NFL great.

  2. As a Packer Fan we had to have this book but it is a great story for any football fan. Brett Farve will go into the history books as one of the BEST Quaterbacks. Very Enjpyable.

  3. I just wanted to let other Packer fans know that this is a book
to read if you are a Brett Favre fan, well done Tom!!!
The pictures in this book are great and by the Packer photographer
Jim Biever, great shots. They bring back memories.
Tom writes this book as a true Packer fan and shares stories, pictures
and records that maybe we have not read, if you can believe that...
Order this book today and give a Packer fan a nice gift for Christmas
they will really enjoy the book.
I have added this book to my collection of Brett Favre items.
We will all miss Brett Favre! But of course one never knows...
    Brett could return in 2007!

2 comments about Marino: On the Record.

  1. It didn't seem that Dan reviewed this book before it was printed. One part of the book, Dan says he threw the trick play against the NY Jets to Fryar. That was wrong, it was Ingram. The next error is that he was making NY think he was going to throw it into the dirt. There is no dirt in NY, it is all Turf. Last, he said that the noice is so loud with all the NY Fans in the stadium. Everyone in NY knows that that stadium is 1/3 Dolphins Fans when Miami comes into town.

  2. Some excellent pictures of both the Dolphins and Marino. Marino speaks of both the good and the mediocre of his career from his upbringing and his family through his wife and kids. He doesn't touch on any huge surprises or vent any frustrations. A good book for the huge Marino fan. I went through it in about 1/2 an hour sitting in the store. Nice for the coffee table

5 comments about Dan Marino: The Making of a Legend.

  1. This book is the greatest book i ever read. Growing up in Pittsburg and eating those peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches turned a boy into a man and not just an ordinary man, Dan Marino THE GREATEST quarterback EVER and this book will prove to you that he is the best person on and off the field. Its a shame how video games are taking over kids life so we will probably never see anyone that comes close to Marino in every aspect of life. He donates his time to help children in need and on the field he throws the ball super-human like. I live in New York and i'm a Jet fan but theres no way i can deny him being the best ever and if you deny it its really because your jealous. This book shows the ups and downs dan had in his life and carrer. Dan is a loyal and caring man to his wife and kids. Theres never been a man with a greater will to win, and when you see him play and the fire in his eyes you will agree. After reading this book it will turn any man into a Dan fan. I recomend this book to football fans and Dan Marino fans all over the globe.

    ~1 luv~

  2. Dan Marino was one of the great all-time quarterbacks. His quick decision making, and quick release revolutionized the game. But we never could have seen this athlete perform, had there not been NFL funding. Yes, without contributions from government subsidies, we never would have been able to see Elway play. I mean Marino. Do you guys realize that George Bush is thinking about cutting NFL funding. He has already voted to reduce quick release-throwing-funding. Without this funding Marino can't make the comeback he keeps talking about.
Doesn't anybody else care about Marino other than ME? F***

  3. An extremely well-presented biog of the NFL's greatest quarterback. Different people gives their insights on the former Dolphin enabling us to see different sides of Dan the Man. I was intrigued to learn that he has written several commentaries on the work of Guy de Maupassant, has mastered the lute and mandolin and is an accomplished pastry chef.

  4. I must admit that I am the biggest Dan Marino fan of all time, so I read this book with a little bias. However, Beckett Publications always produce good books.

This book is extremely well written, and there are tons of super pictures, many of which, I had never seen. Instead of having one storyline from start to finish, this book uses several authors, many of whom are well-recognizable to the sportsworld, to depict Marino's story throughout time.

Nobody in the game of football was a better pure passer, and nobody ever graced the game with more passion and competitiveness. This book sheds light on Dan Marino's overwhelming deisire to compete and win. In reading this book, you'll easily win too.

  5. i thought this book was amazing. it tells the story like no one else can. it brings you through the hard times and also the happiest moments in dans career. i would definatly suggest this book to any miami fan.

1 comments about Huddle: Fathers, Sons and Football.

  1. I really loved how the father in this story got behind his son, even when he picked a sport that the dad had little or no understanding of. I got that impression that, to the dad, it was not what sport his son was playing that was important, but instead it was the fact that it was his son playing that mattered.

I am a high school football coach. My son is 6 months old. If he picks (heaven forbid) to not play football, I want to be able to see that the value is in whatever he does and that it should be important to me because it is important to him.
This is a great book for all fathers to read-- especially if you think your son is going to be the best at (fill-in whatever sport or activity you want) instead of thinking that you are going to let him know that he is the best son you could have ever asked for, no matter what.

This book helps to remind me of my most important job-- to be a supportive father.
