1. this book is very helpful in giving a begginers look at koi keeping. it gives information about all sorts of things including informationg on breeding, feeding, classification, deiseases and their cures, pond maintenance, and just some basic information that helps give an idea of what koi keeping is like.

   I gave this book four stares because i feel that people with limited experience will like tis book but people with extensive koi knowledge will not find rthis book helpful. Regardless this is a book that should be in everyones books shelf.

1. Obviously this book is considered for beginners, but if you really are a beginner, it will just lead you in the wrong directions. And if you're experienced, then you'll be shaking your head at some of the stuff written. While there are some nice pictures, even that is organized badly because you have to flip about 10 pages over to see the picture of the plant being discussed. The plant profiles section is very short and almost useless, especially the "Similar plants" category, which is very inaccurate. And there's not one mention of Aponogetons, or some other very common aquarium plants. Save your money for something better. I bought this and returned it for a full refung 3 days later. If you're looking for a quality, cheap beginners book, get Scheurmann's Aquarium Plants Manual instead.

I very impressed with this book, when I received it in the post I was bit disappointed of the size, it looked quite small, but packed with useful information I was looking for, it's not very thorough, it touches alot of subjects though, from setting up a tank to common fish species, plants, diseases, etc. This is the perfect book for beginners when you need useful information and facts. Great book, nice photos too.



2. One of the beginning books i've read. Lots of tips for such a small book. Surprisingly good photos. Generally covers everything for start up, buy this book when buying a 20 gallon start up kit and you should be off to a good start.

1. This is a great comprehensive reference tool! Step-by-step with pics and easy to follow instructions for all types of aquaria!

1. I wish now that I did not buy this book, the information is just too general. Basic design and filter sizing are topics that I expected to find in this book.



2. Before you can become an expert at anything you need to know the basics. What this book does well is explain aquarium filtration and the equipment involved to those who may have little or no knowledge on this matter. Many aquarist books explain filtration very briefly, often leaving the reader with questions and incomplete information about the process. This book will tell you how and why filtration occurs, and explain various filter products and how they work. Includes filtration suggestions for different tank set-ups, but could have included more. Marine tanks are covered, but I would say that freshwater tanks are more the focus of this book.



3. This book describes good filtration systems, some may be considered as old, others too bulky, but what surprised me the most was to find in page 6 referring to nitrite as NO3 and nitrate NO2 (it is nitrite NO2 and nitrate NO3)! After that I took all information with care and check in other book for confirmation. How is it possible for the author to miss this? If you want to see nice photos, fine, but be ware some pages stick together and seem they are going to break, so be careful.



4. If you are looking for a book to help you understand new filtration methods for your marine aquarium. Do not buy this book. It might work for fresh water tanks.



5. This book helps alot for beginners. Filtration is a complex subject for a beginner but with this book you can manage lots of diffucult things. Articles and photos are fine. I recomend this book.

1. Great old book reviewing basics many have forgotten about marine Aquariums. Obviously dated but if you're interested in a collectors item or going back over some of the things we seem to have forgotten through the years I'd recommend it.
