1. This is a LARGE HEAVY book, with high gloss pages and many photos. Great species book with good commentary - though dated. Should be on the bookshelf of all livebearer hobbyists. General hobbyists who likelivebearers can just use the Baensch Atlases.

3. One word that can really show the quality of this book is moving. The pictures are spelnded and the content is extesive but not boring. This book can relate to several diffrent fish lovers, either fish hobbists or fish collectors will love this book.

1. A good book introductory book when it was published but does not contain the latest information. Shimek has written subsequent introductory book with additional information.



2. I think that this book was well written but it lacked information on modern filtration systems and was generally too far back in the past to be an outstanding reference. This is the only flaw i found in the book, otherwise it is a fairly good pick!

1. Although this is a good basic book on breeding freshwater tropical fish, another book with the same title written by Jay Hemdal is more comprehensive - that book was written for Barron's as a replacement for this title, and was written in 2003 (over ten years newer than this one). Hemdal's book also contains information on the breeding and propagation of marine fishes, invertebrates and plants. In addition, the Scheurmann book was written from the European standpoint, while Hemdal's book is based on North American aquariums.

   Well organized and presented.

   Breeding instructions of more aquarium fish would be desirable.

   Not wasted my time and money. A very good book!
