1. This is a good, somewhat comprehensive book with nice pictures. However, don't buy it if you already have Koi: Living Jewels of the Orient. A lot of the text is the same, word for word, as are a lot of the pictures.

A very comprehensive and handy 320-page guidebook that covers the various aspects of tropical fishkeeping, including tank selection, heating, lighting, aeration, filtration, aquarium plants, feeding, maintenance, health care and breeding, as well as useful information (diet, water temperature, compatibility, etc.) about more than 250 fishes (including barbs, labyrinth fishes, cichlids, catfishes, loaches, characins and livebearers) with heaps of photographs in colour. An excellent book for the tropical fish enthusiast.

1. The author does know a lot about the care of seahorses, as he tells us many time. He does not however, let us in on his knowledge. A great book to give to your mom as a source of basic information on seahorses. Pretty much useless for a hobbiest.

   Except, of course, dont get seahorses...

   Not the message I want from a book on the care of seahorses. And none of the information you would expect from the title.




2. The author is incredibly devoted to the lives of seahorses. He really takes it upon himself to let the reader know the risks involved in keeping seahorses in captivity. The book could use more information on tank design for seahorse raising success.

4. I bought this book when I was considering getting seahorses for my Salt tank. This has been the most help I have found. This book should be required for anyone considering the purchase of seahorses. I use it as a refence guide and am happy to report that thanks to this book not only do I have healthy, happy seahorses but a very pregnant male seahorse! If you love or even like these creatures this book is for you.

1. If you want to read about the authors life experiences rather than keeping, breeding and care of Angelfish, this book is for you. I ordered it thinking it would deal with the latter, not the former and was rather
   disapointed in its contents. I suppose that Drs. Axelrod and Burger have led active tropical fish hunting expeditions and thought they should share their adventures with the readers. I think you would be better off with an early edition of William T. Innes "Exotic Aquarium Fish". It has a detailed write-up on the keeping, breeding and care of fresh water Angelfish. Although this book has been out of print for many years, It may still be available on eBay or gathering dust in some book stores.



2. Not a bad book, but it wasn't what I thought it was going to be. It was more like the author's memoirs regarding angelfish. I recently just got an angelfish and was looking for a book about taking care of them, what they like to eat, how many gallons of water they need, what fish I can put in a tank with them, blah blah. A basic pet owner's manual basically, but that's not what this book was about.



3. The book is very easy to read. It's written as Dr. Axelrod's own experience in keeping Angelfishes. You'll learn more about Angelfishes while you read the book. The book provides generous pictures of Angelfishes' strains. Quite a complete brief on Angelfishes. Covers diseases and breeding too.
