2 comments about Story of the Gun.
- This book is a very good primer for those who viewed the A&E documentary on the gun. It even contains some basic interior ballistics to whet the reader's appetite for more - you may even be tempted to dig very deep to improve your understanding. I thoroughly enjoy the author's style of writing; you can definitely tell his love for the subject.
It starts with the early days of the matchlock and progresses very well to the modern day weapon. It reads very easily, not getting bogged down in the minutia of interior ballistics, and can be finished in almost an evening or two. One point of note - this book deals almost exclusively with personal or small team served weapons. If you want artillery see Mr. Hogg's other books (there are plenty to keep you busy). This is a must have though for any gun buff.
- Written as a companion piece to Arts and Enertainments special The Story Of The Gun this book is very well written, researched and even witty in places. My only complaint is Mr. Hogg gives very detailed descriptions of how many of the weapons work and in the case of machine guns etc some diagrams would have been very helpful. Other then that its an excellent addition to any gun buff's library.

5 comments about Shooter's Bible 2004: The World's Standard Firearms Reference Book (Shooter's Bible).
- I have been buying the Shooters Bible now for over 20 years.
They seem to be getting worse each year. It is inaccurate in some places and wrong in others. The Gun Digest has better coverage as far as models go, the "Bible leaves out many makes and models. They really need to hire a "gun" person to review this book before it is released. Examples of problems: 1. Page 334 the Enforcer does not have a 4.8" barrel. 2. Page 331, New Model Super Single-Six???? Looks a lot like a Vaquero 3. What happened to Armalite/Bushmaster Rifles? Still in business, but not in the "Bible". 4. Numerous Ruger models missing. This may be my last year for this dissappointment. Some of the articles are good, but I would wait until it goes on sale before I would spend the money.
- told me little or nothing about the gun's I have.
some gun's not even in the book. and they are brand name's not off the wall brand's. very small on gun listing on any of the gun's. I have other gun book's that have allot more gun information on the gun's the prices in the book are hirer than all the other book;s I have
- Lots of articles on topics related to shooting from A to Z. I was looking for a back up for Gun Traders and Gun Digest for research and value information. I was disappointed with the Shooter's Bible in this respect... however, should you need information on ballistics, reloading, some history and many other items, it might be for you!
- This is a reference guide for medium range and rifle shooters. Long range shooters and deep forest shooter datas are of less depth.
- If you want something that lists collectible firearms, look for something with the word "COLLECTOR" in the title. Meanwhile, the Shooter's Bible is an invaluable source of information for someone seeking information on NEW or recently manufactured firearms. Not much else like it available, and it's updated annually.

5 comments about Gun Digest 2004: The World's Greatest Gun Book.
- The tag line for the Gun Digest is "Essential Information for Shooters, Collectors and Students of the Gun" and that pretty well sums it up. This is the bible of the gun hobby. It has a series of articles that range from the hunt for Bonnie and Clyde to reviews of new gun offerings, it has a summary of what's new in handguns, rifles, shotguns and accessory items, and finally it has a complete catalog of all of the offerings of all the gun companies. I have each annual volume of Gun Digest in my library going back more than 50 years. I can't imagine doing without them.
- If you have the 2001, 2002 or 2003 copies don't buy it, very few changes from those editions, otherwise, the book is an essentisl reference and I like the colored section on custom guns.
- One of the world's greatest handguns is the Wildey, it isn't even mentioned in the handgun section, in the WEB directory Wildey is mentioned as Widley !! It's a same.
Another well known handgun and beatifully designed is the Tanfoglio (www.tanfoglio.it), it is only mentioned once in the Manufactorer's Directory. In the rifles section there's no mention about the Accuracy Precision Rifles (one of the best sniper rifles in the world). The front page is different on the one I got at home and the one shown on Amazon.com Why is that? The front page also says 'Complete Illustrated...' well it isn't complete at all
- The gun digest has been the premier firearms publication since 1944. No other annual has covered the field consistantly for this amount of time. There are many interesting articles from many contributing authors over its 60+ year span that are timeless in their relevance. Buy and collect gun digests where you can find them and you will have a wealth of information at your fingertips. Especially the gun digest treasuries editions. Those are truly gold. They contain, besides reprints of the best articles, a thoroughly indexed cross reference by author or subject of all the articles published in the various publications of the gun digest up to the date of publication of the treasury edition. The last treasury, the 7th was from 45 years of gun digest. I'm hopeful that the current owners, Krause books will come out with a new treasury edition soon. If you view the gun digest as a cumulative work or as a single standalone issue, you can truly appreciate its command of the firearms and shooting dicipline fields. The 2004 edition continues this fine tradition.
- This is a good book, but clearly not the greatest gun book.

1 comments about Game Gun.
- The new updated edition of this book is even better than the first original version. It covers the traditional side by side, and a new chapter on over and unders. Even people who are advanced in the field of shotguns will learn a great deal of new information in this documentary. If you dont have this book, I suggest you buy it soon before the remaining stock is sold out (it was a difficault book for me to find, feel lucky that Amazon.com has a few).

5 comments about The Walther Handgun Story: A Collector's and Shooter's Guide.
- This is a rather well thought out book...IF you're a collector on the vintage pistols.
Although the photos could have been of a better brightness and contrast, they do serve to show a fairly comprehensive history of the Walther pistols. It would have been nice to see some movie and TV tie-ins to show how prevalent the Walther name has been on the large and small screens.
What I would take exception with is the way the P99 was handled. An updated edition is warranted and would serve to remedy this oversight. The same can be said for the Walther line of airguns, be they pellet or BB pistols.
Not a bad book, considering there is nothing else on the market that delves into the history and legacy of the Walther name in firearms.
-
A good reference book. This book should have been better printed, and, the photographs and the drawings are of poor quality. There should have been more, and better quality, exploded drawings.
- I thought the book was pretty informative but some of the pictures were real dark therefore not being able to show complete detail and his serial numbering dates were a little vague
- This book offers a lot of info but however, it should be mentioned that the pictures are generally of a very poor quality as a result of which the distinguishing of (important !) details is hardly or not at all possible. The (few) drawings are of an even worse quality. Also the chapter covering the P88 and P99 models is inadequate (notably for the P99)and the subtitling of the pictures sometimes is completely wrong. Nevertheless this book has to be considered worth its price because, again, it offer lots of info (especially on prewar models)and it reads in an agreeable way.
