5 comments about Erte's Fashion Designs.
- I love art and am always on the look out for great art books. Erte is a favorite artist of mine and when I found this inexpensive book, I jumped at it! Plenty of pictures, mostly black and white, and less fluff! Too many art books fill entire pages with well known images. This book is the opposite and has tons of great illustrations from Erte. For the price, who can complain? I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the 20's, studies fashion, and/or enjoys art.
- This is a lovely little book that includes many georgeous fashion illustrations in the art deco style. An excellent book for the art deco enthusiast, or those those looking for new design ideas.
- These designs may not always be emblematic of actual clothing in the 1920's, but they represent some of the most innovative, dramatic, and stylish stuff from the era, and remain inspirational to this day. The book features a few of his more ordinary designs, but also includes "Harper's Bazar" covers, theatrical designs, and some amazing haute couture. While there are no pictures of extant costumes, this book of illustrations, quite a few in color, is beautiful, stylish, and motivating.
- One of the best! Truly unusual designs for creative figurative art dolls. Highly recommended.
- With this book you get a glimpse into the master's mind at the birth of Art Deco and beyond. Erte's designs flourished in the mid-20's, when the Deco age was new, but you can still sense a taste for the noveau and baroque ages in his art and gorgeous designs. Erte was a pioneer artist untill his death and anyone seeking to learn true fashion design will benefit from the vision of Erte.

5 comments about Shoe Fleur: A Footwear Fantasy.
- It's amazing to see how much creativity and imagination there can be in a human been.
- I have given this book as Christmas gifts and all who received it have said they loved it.
- Michel Tcherevkoff has created a masterpiece that is a botanical flight of imagination. His creations are hypnotic; a journey into a fanciful floral wonderland. This book has become a source of refuge when I need to retreat from daily stress; I can easily change my attitude after spending a few minutes within the pages of this tour de force. Thank you Mr. Tcherevkoff for the unlimited hours of enjoyment I will receive from this gem.

5 comments about 59 Authentic Turn-of-the-Century Fashion Patterns.
- As the book's name suggests, it has patterns from the "turn of the century". More specifically, from 1890 to 1896.
The first three pages run over how to graph out a pattern, take your measurements, and adjust the pattern to fit. Basic knowledge of sewing, and a familiarity with patterns is a must. Or at the very least, you need to be a daring new sewer that isn't intimidated by challenges. The instructions are informative but brief.
Each pattern has a fashion etching in black and white to illustrate the design it's based on. The etching shows trims and accessories. There is a diagram for each style that lays out all the pattern pieces needed to create it. All the measurements are listed in inches. They are clear and easy to read.
There are 31 womens patterns : included are numerous sleeve layouts like two part coat, leg-o-mutton, 2 part leg-o-mutton, different fullnesses of sleeve. Several styles of skirt, one draped like the previous bustle decade, mostly three or five gore skirts, umbrella skirt. There are different collar styles, bodices cut in both princess and darted. A cape and coat pattern, etc. There is one nightgown pattern.
There are 21 misses and girls costumes. They cover the same span of years. There are dresses appropriate to very small children up to teens. There is one evening dress pattern for a girl of about 5-9. There is also one pattern for drawers and one for a chemise.
There are two patterns for boys. Mainly young boys. One is a pants suit, so i assume that would be for post diaper age. The other is a kilt costume.
There are three mens patterns. One nightshirt, dressing gown and coat. There is no picture of the coat.
My count brings me to 57 patterns, I must have missed a couple somewhere. But hopefully this will give you a good idea of the book contents. I have made some of the dresses from this book. The patterns work out well, however to create a truly period looking garment you need more information than what this book gives you. The construction techniques and trimming methods are quite different from how most basic sewing is done today. It would help the beginner to have some hands on exposure to actual period garments. Mostly to see how they are lined, interlined, stiffened, boned, etc. In my experience, it is the linings and foundations that give the finished product it's form. The outer image of the costume is merely floating on that foundation. This book does not cover foundations sewing techniques at all. But with some hands on antique garment experience, you could easily create an authentic looking dress from this book.
- I liked this book because it showed many different styles of dress for women and children in the victorian age. I make victorian costumes and it now refer to it for ideas on how to make all my costumes a little different from each other. Also shows coats and many childrens clothes which are also helpful. Most of the dresses have leg of mutton sleeves but each is a variation.
- It only covers a few years of fashion, but if what you're looking for are patterns for women's and girl's fashions from 1890-1896, this may help you. But do note, it doesn't actually have any patterns later than 1896.
- Great book. Thank you!
- I've been looking for a book with some illustrations of how women dressed in the 1800's. This book give its reader a number of illustrations and patterns where a crafty person, or a person with some seamstress knowledge, could create an outfit by enlarging the patterns and selecting materials that might have been used during those days. Takes a little doing, but can be done. Lots of puffy sleeved dresses and some beautiful coat patterns.

2 comments about Ralph Rucci: The Art of Weightlessness.
- Such an interesting book. I you're into fashion, mainly not so mainstream fashion, but a little different, this is the book for you. Ralph Rucci is such a talented designer. I cannot aford any of his clothes but I look at the pictures in this book all the time. I sew too and I am fascinated with his talent. You won't be dissapointed with this book, I hope.
- Terrific. I've bought his clothes for years and love his timeless works. Looks as if he has been discovered which is great for him and costly for me.

5 comments about Grace Kelly: Icon of Style to Royal Bride (Philadelphia Museum of Art).
- A bride figure of really beautiful Grace.
The photograph which photographed her is splendid. Various articles used at the time of marriage are carried.
This is a precious document.
- I bought this book for the sole purpose of learning more about Grace Kelly's wedding dress. At the time I bought the book, I was planning my own wedding and I wanted a wedding dress that looked similar to Grace's. However, I had not been able to find good pictures of the dress online or in other books I had of Grace. Therefore, I was delighted with this book, which has beautiful pictures of the dress. Furthermore, the book has also proven to be a great addition to my collection of Grace Kelly books as it provides particular attention and detail to one of the most important days in Grace's life. I highly recommend the book to anyone who is interested in Grace, and particularly in her wedding dress.
- I, for one, think that Grace Kelly was the epitome of the most beautiful, elegant brides of the modern edge...even to Princess Diana..that dress and the work that went into it is mindblowing. I've seen the dress in person and it TRULY is BREATHTAKINGLY stunning! The lace, alone, in this modern age (although no longer available) would be over $10K ALONE! I plan to copy some of Grace's elegance in my very own wedding...a Rose Point Lace garter, the beautiful Juliet Cap...all I can say is this: It's not a Grace Kelly Bio--this is strictly dedicated to the dress and it's making: fabrics and laces used and how they were all put together. Truly and informative book besides being a wonderful reference as well as a Keepsake. At LEAST 5 stars on this. Check it out..you won't be disappointed!
- This book gives a very detailed representation of Grace Kelly's Wedding Dress. It also gives lots of details of the events leading up to her wedding day. It is not a biography of her life. It focuses on her wedding day and the events leading up to it with the wedding day itself being the culmination.
- I was a bit disappointed when I received the book as I thought it would have more colored pictures of her wardrobe. Many were in black and white. The photos of her wedding dress were lovely though -- I guess that was the true focus of the book.

5 comments about 20th Century Fashion: 100 Years of Style by Decade and Designer, in Association with Vogue..
- This is a very small book. It's about the size of a paperback novel. The first half is a very brief history of western fashion, focusing on each decade of the 20th century. The second half contains very brief biographies of many fashion designers. How brief? Sometimes there are 5 on a single small page. There are very few photos. I would have liked to have seen one or two photos of every designer's work. Instead there's maybe one photo for every fifth designer. The book is good for a quick lookup of "Who? Never heard of them before." It's not great if you really want to know about someone's work.
- This is the book you need if you are looking for a complete -and at the same time- condensed history of 20th century fashion and its most important designers.
It is very interesting and well written, besides... it has amazing pictures! Great value for your money ;)
- i used this book to help me with a research paper on fashions reflections of society's morals. i loved the format and it was so useful. i learned so much and appreciated the truthfulness.
- VOGUE was launched in New York on December 17, 1892. This outstanding book chronicles more than just a century of fashion. Written with in-depth focus, this gorgeous book hits on the pulse of the attitudes, societal values, and social elegance that the designer's portrayed, as well as how American culture was reinvented decade after decade. This is one outstanding book, and shows just how far we've come. Special thanks to Linda Watson for an outstanding job in bringing the 20th century to life. Simply FANTASTIC!
- Vogue Twentieth Century Fashion - 100 Years of Style by Decade and Designer is another superb book, which we recommend. Written by Linda Watson it is very informative and also has the status of a coffee table book. The book contains the biographies of 245 international fashion designers and couturiers. It starts off with a description about the various fashion decades of the 20th Century. Entertaining are the quotes from old Vogue magazines about the latest fashion trends. The oldest Vogue, which is quoted is from 19 August 1909. Needless to say that there are many pictures and photos on each page.

5 comments about Glamour, Interrupted: How I Became the Best-Dressed Patient in Hollywood.
- I too have had a kidney transplant 2 years ago for a different reason. Cojo's book shows how everyone is different and that the words "Thank You" just don't seem to be enough for your donor(s)and your family.
Good reading - some funny, some sad but all true feelings!
- Although the subject was serious, Steven Cojokaru dealt with his potential life ending illness just as he does most of his star reviews - like so much fluff and stuff. He is a divia and that is what came through
here, not all the sacrifices made by a dear friend and then his mother. The book was barely average in quality.
- This book was incredible. I couldn't put it down. I could relate to his anger, depression, and finally happiness. He really made me open my eyes to the issues I have at hand. I recently had major back surgery, and I went through all the emotions he did. (all though my wasn't life threating) I do not normally read these kind of books, but a friend told me to read it, due the fact that I was in a deep depression myself. He really made great light of a bad situation. I would recommend this to book to everyone.(which I already have)
Thank you Cojo you really made me feel that things can get better no matter what the situation.

- I have enjoyed watching Cojo on TV for years. His sharp wit always makes me smile. Since as he says he can't do anything without a television camera recording, it was a natural for him to write this book. What impressed me most is the honesty and personal experiences he shares with the reader. Sometimes I felt too much humor took away from his incredible story, but in the end it all came together. I already have an organ donor sticker on my driver's license, but I hope this book inspires many to become donors. Great job Cojo!
- Only Cojo could turn his personal tragedy of being diagnosed with PKD into an entertaining, witty, and creative story! After picking up this book, I was a little curious about what the story would contain, considering that Cojo has already given us his biography in a previous book. I was also afraid that the story would be entirely too depressing.
Boy was I wrong! I loved this book and wasn't the least bit disappointed. Cojo delivers in true Cojo fashion as he bares his soul and still keeps you laughing out loud, all while take you along on the journey of his own personal hell.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who's a fan of the Entertainment Tonight fashion guru. This is definitley Cojo at his best! What an amazing and talented man!
