  1. This is a great little book to get you around LA if you are a shopaholic and even if you are not. It inludes even the most obscure shops and has very honest critiques and good directions - plus lots more!

  2. This is the second book of theirs that I've bought. They are great because they are up to date, and so helpful. With each store, it has the address, phone number, opening hours and everything else about it that can be of use. They give good descriptions of what the store carrys and a tid bit of info about the owners etc. At the back of the book there is a few restaurant picks as well. Another great thing about this book is that it caters to anyone of any financial status. There are high end stores and stores geared to people with a budget in mind. The only possible bonus they could maybe include next issue would be a few photos here and there, but really, in general, this guide is great for helping you choose the best spots to go to and you can narrow down what is and what isn't of interest to you. Although I know Los Angeles very well, there are a few stores in here that I may not otherwise have known about and for that, I'm happy to buy a copy every couple of years or so.

5 comments about Jerry Hall's Tall Tales.

  1. Fun, light book. I have to say, Jerry Hall has had more dumb luck than Forrest Gump, but good for her. She seems quite a sweet person. One funny thing was right after finishing TALL TALES I read Pattie Harrison's memoir WONDERFUL TONIGHT, and while Jerry said she alone fell asleep in Pattie's and Eric Clapton's bed on their wedding night, so that Pattie and Eric had to find another place to make love, Pattie reveals that Jerry and Mick and Jade were all asleep in the "honeymoon bed." Jerry left out the part about Mick and Jade!

  2. I couldn't help wondering if Jerry Hall ever regretted writing this one, penned while she was still bonded with Mick Jagger. Was it ever used as "evidence" in her divorce trial? Did it return to haunt her?
Forgetting those questions, this book is just a fun romp for readers, as Jerry opens up and lets loose on her philosophy about how to handle men...including Mick, who Jerry admits was far than faithful. The picture section is a nostalgic trip through rock's early days and Jerry's younger years as a top model and crazy woman.
My advice? Grab a copy now while the price, high as it is, is within reach. You won't regret it!

  3. What a fabulous read about the decadent 70's and early 80's high-roller scene. Read this book (LET AN IDIOT BORROW IT AND DIDN'T GET IT BACK! )in the early 80's and LOVED it...Read it for great info on Lothario Mick, and gorgeous Jerry. Jerry, you've had three more kids and lots of living in almost 20 years, WE NEED AN UPDATE!

  4. Love, love LOVE Jerry Hall! What a great chick with a great attitude. This book is fantastic reading for inside the decadent 70's scene, and private side of the fabulous MICK! Jerry, we need to know MORE - You have had THREE more kids since your last book, so please write another one!

  5. Read this book back in the early 80's and it changed my life. She's a daring and gutsy girl, with a disarming sweetness. It's time for part two of Jerry's great adventures!

5 comments about Modelmania: The Working Model's Manual.

  1. The writer is a complete idiot. He is nothing more than a headshot photographer (and not a particularly talented one at that), and writes at a first-grade level.

    This book is worthless trash.

  2. This book has lots of information and is practical with lots of tips that can actually be used. The way it was written however, I can't determine if Karl Preston is arrogant or just that wise cracking.

  3. How many more modeling books is Eileen Ford going to 'endorse?' When will a writer give young people starting out in the industry some straight talk about where they best fit into the industry and how to make the most of their talents and reach their full potential? This book conveniently sidesteps the BIG CHANGES in the Industry over the last five-seven years. GET REAL PLEASE.

  4. Get this book! It is a wonderful introduction to the field of modelling and commercial acting. The information is accurate and insightful. The book turns wannabes into informed, prepared competitors! As an adult male, I find the book particularly helpful, as it is not pitched toward pre-teenage girls like many other excellent books. The step by step approaches to getting photos, contacting agents, going to go-sees and auditions, were great. I am now with a great agency, have booked both print and TV commercial work (as a SAG principal, no less...), and am pursuing acting as well. This book has prepared me well and I highly recommend it.

  5. The author's title (photographer) leads the reader to believe that he is an expert in the field. In fact, there's a lot of misinformation in this book. Buyer beware.
