3 comments about Catwalk: Inside the World of the Supermodels.

  1. Whether you're a fashion aficionado or just a supermodel fan, this book delivers not only eye candy (Linda posing as a manniquin), but also info about rising models Emma Blocksage (the platinum blonde Elite of the year winner) and Lonneke (Cover Girl spokesperson).

Nonetheless, the book has an ample amount of pictures of 90's supermodels that you won't need to go anywhere else to re-celebrate to reign of the supermodel.

  2. Beautiful pictures though not enough of them. Could use more of everything, but worth pouring over.

  3. I don't own this book yet, but have looked at it various times. It gives a good overview of the top models of the time, although this book is dated, and you won't find today's hottest stars like Maggie and Erin.

I'd say that this book is a must in any fashionista's collection.

1 comments about Fashion Design and Product Development.

  1. I think that the book is excellent in terms of its coverage in the various areas of fashion product development. In fact I can say it is the only book that covers all the relevant areas of fashion product development in a logical fashion. It starts with concept of fashion and design and how it translates all the way through to garment production and marketing. It uses simple language and very practical examples, which will be clearly understood, not only by people working in the garment industry but also by lay persons. It is an excellent book for graduating fashion designers that are seeking jobs in the retail sector. It will give them a true picture of the behind the scenes. It also broaches on areas like hierarchy and the flow of the design process. It will also give a clear guideline to graduates where they want to position themselves in the industry. Overall I cannot find any shortcomings in the book, except it is a little sketchy on the points where garment production takes place abroad in developing nations in the East. More elaboration on this would bring it closer to the real workings of the garment trade today.

2 comments about Make Fashion Magic.

  1. We found this book at the library and it so impressed us that we've actually started having Shell competitions at work. The book is so full of inspiring ideas and easy-to-use techniques. And the children's clothing ideas...

Shell is a role model for us here at work and we all strive to incorporate her ideas of clothing conservation and decoration. In fact, we LIVE by Shell's rules of life and have constructed a shrine (recycled, of course!) in her honor.

  2. If you are frustrated by living in a world of "cookie cutter" fashions, that do not offer even a hint of feminity, then Shell Kepler's "MAKE FASHION MAGIC", is the exact book you should purchase. Shell's down to earth and simplistic approach in showing you how to embellish either your current clothing or great second-hand finds, will leave you screaming for more. All women have a deep desire to feel feminine and sexy and unfortunatley many of todays fashions leave that important part out. And many times when you do find clothing with her type of style, the price tag equals the national debt! Purchase Shell's book and see how she turns an ordinary white tuxedo jacket and a daring bustier into the most romantic and sensual set of clothing you will ever own...Be daring, be sexy and find the passion inside you with Shell's clothing ideas. No more boring T-Shirts and plain old jeans after you purchase this book!

5 comments about Does This Make Me Look Fat?: The Definitive Rules for Dressing Thin for Every Height, Size, and Shape.

  1. This isn't a book on finding your personal style. There aren't any personality questionnaires to fill out or style profiles to pore over. Ms. Feldon has instead written a perfectly entertaining and informative book showing women the basics for using optical illusion to hide flaws and enhance assets.

I've had my copy since the book was first released. Because this book is more about the principles of dressing rather than specific fashion advice, the contents are still very relevant, despite the fact that it was published in 2000.

Most valuable to me and my wardrobe were the points Ms. Feldon makes on monochromatic dressing, proportion and uniforms. These three principles alone changed the way I dressed -- and subsequently improved my overall image.

    Jennifer Skinner
Author of The Very Small Closet

  2. This is my all time favorite book on illusion dressing. The information is timeless, witty, easy to understand and practical. See also:

  3. If you (like me) are blessed with a beautifull curvy body that looks best when it's naked, and worst when dressed to the nines, this book is for you. The best is that you can really understand the principles (if you don't, create your personal model on the Land's End website and try them out). The book will give you a perfect guideline on how to follow fashion wisely, spend less and still stay ahead of the crowd of fashion victims. It relies heavily on black (people bring me a chair to sit down if I wear black as it makes me look like an undertaker's diploma piece), but the method of "camouflage chic" works as well with other darker colors. Especially helpful if you sew yourself and have to make decisions on style and detailing without being able to try the garment on!

  4. This book is so cute and well written! I loved the author's sense of humor and laughed so much while reading this. She's got some great artistic principles that she applies expertly to different body styles. If you want to look thinner, don't consider losing weight (unless you need to), just dress as she suggests to look 10 pounds thinner. Great author with a realistic view of women and their body issues.

  5. I am Italian and I sew. this means that clothing is a basic necessity for me. I am blessed with a good figure but everytime I help a friend in looking at her best, I have not been able to tell her why I insist for a certain lenght or a neckline. in this book there are the reasons why certain harmonies are so perfect and why other choices are wrong on two ladies apparently similar. It is the basic book to reinvent the proportions of the body you don't know how to look at- yours -and to look just beautiful. it is the written version of what enhainces without all the mistery aura of the "good tasted gurus". to be read and to be offered as a gift.
