1 comments about 365: A Year in Fashion.
- An interesting concept of a photo taken every day for a year by one of the UK's leading fashion photographers. Fashion images sit side by side with personal "snaps" that create a very interesting "fashion fly on the wall" book. A must for any serious followers of fashion and the images that shape it.

5 comments about Fashion Design on Computers.
- There may have been only a few of the pages of the book that were useful the rest was just extra unnecessary information. The book was in so bad shape it seemed like it was lift in the rain for a few nights.
- I guess this might be good for someone who doesn't know how to use a computer---but in design---who doesn't today?
I've been designing a long time---and it is a lot more than what this book has to offer. Not a good value for the money.
- Seems like the book is going to really help you learn how to design while you're reading the first few chapters-but then it falls apart. First you have to go through a bunch of basic stuff-that anyone knows---and then if you know ANYTHING about computers it is is nothing more than the tutorials or help menus of different software programs.
- I cannot say enough about this book. I thought that to be a fashion designer it was important to be in a big city like Los Angeles or New York. This book proved me wrong. When I arrived at a top fashion design school in LA I presented the teaching staff with this text. They were beside themselves. They all agreed it was the best text they had read concerning fashion design on computers. However, no one at my top notch school felt they had the skills to teach the material. That was their loss! This book is wonderful because even a beginner can jump right in and start designing. The easy step by step instructions and clear screen shots make it so easy to succeed. You will be blown away by your own work. Even if you have experience with designing on the computer, like I did, just skip right to the intermediate or advanced parts of the book. You will not believe how greatly your work will improve. Anyone who expects to compete in fashion design needs to own this bible for Fashion Design on Computers. My only regret is paying $20,000 for a two year education in fashion design when I learned more from this $50 book in just weeks.
- I bought this book thinking I could learn how to design clothing on the computer. Instead, there are a lot of chapters about basic computer information, which I already knew. Anyone could learn that stuff just by knowing how to turn on a computer, using a help menu or taking a class in photoshop. I was really hoping to learn about making patterns, designing clothes and then changing shapes around to make really neat clothes. Instead the book talked about saving files, making shapes, finding fashion sites and sales stuff. To me the book is very disappointing, and too expensive.

5 comments about Reconstruction Era Fashions: 350 Sewing, Needlework, & Millinery Patterns 1867-1868.
- This book had authentic, accurate costume information with nice commentary from the author at the beginning. Also had helpful reference information to help understand and use the patterns. I felt I was a lady of the 1800's reading the magazine for the first time.
- I bought this book about a year ago and use it at least one a week for reference as well as to make items even though my re-enactment period here in uk is 1879 (british campaign against Zulu nation).
This is a must have book for EVERYONE! And for those here in uk it is worth the wait.
- This book is a super bargain compared to original _Harper's Bazar_ magazines with pattern sheets. It's easier to use too--all the patterns have been disentangled and presented separately. Patterns are included for just about every woman's garment or accessory you'd ever want to make. The articles on sewing techniques are different from other 1860s ones I've seen reprinted, and better illustrated.
- I do a little historic sewing (not a lot) but this is an amazingly beautiful book to look at. It has pictures of everything--clothes and hats and trims and sewing techniques and, well, just everything. The engravings are stunning and the production is superb. If you're at all interested in Victorian fashions, this book is worth having.
- I am a Civil War re-enactor (female) who bought Reconstruction Era Fashions because I don't believe in restricting my research to just the war years. However, I was happy to discover it also contains material useful for my Civil War impression. There is a substantial section of instructions for dressmaking and pattern alterations that is suitable for the Civil War and, judging from the (many) illustrations, was reprinted in the late 1860s from an earlier 1860s source. There are large sections with other appropriate instructions for fancy buttonholes and buttons, netting, and crocheted tatting. The patterns and instructions for corsets, underclothes, and many accessories and trimmings are also fine for the CW. Although the bonnet styles are different from the war years the section on millinery techniques is very illuminating. The book is profusely illustrated--techniques are illustrated as well as the finished garments--and the production is very high quality.

5 comments about Fetish Fashion: Undressing the Corset.
- The photography is superb and the corsets are divine. This is a great inspiration book for any who want to get laced up or make their own. I first borrowed this book at the library and then I had to own one for myself. I love the book and hubby doesn't mind it either ;-)
- Loved the whole thing.
Hoping for sequel to this book .
- This book has a nice look and a nice feel with great models and a wide variety of looks. The thing with the large variety is that you will love some, like some, like some less, and possibly loathe some. Some are medieval, some modern, some retro, some theatrical, some discipline, some camp, and they are variably made of vinyl, leather, plastic, metal, brocade, gingham, or garbage bin liners. All that variety sounds appealing, and is. The problem is that not all combinations of corset/human shapes/styles will come together in a look that you like. My favourite pic is the one on the cover...but this look is very limited in the rest of the book.
Although I had to stick paper over a third of the photos (of which there are over 100) in order to really enjoy this book, I can still see all the pics due to the 3 pages of thumbnails at the end. And just to clarify...there is nothing wrong with any one photo, it is just personal taste...as indicated by the fact that my afternoon with tape and scissors means I have hidden some of my flatmates faves!
- I was sadly disappointed with the print quality of this book. The cheap, printed in China, desk-top publishing look and feel should have relegated this book to the bargain bin. The added Photoshop effects almost warranted a return item. Nice pics none-the less but save your money, pass it up.
- some of the pics i have seen online, but thats only because i frequent dark garden's website. beautifully and tastefully done photographs. it has a small intro (about 3 or 4 pages) and the rest is photographs. i recomend any corset lover to have this book on their coffee table!
