5 comments about The Hat Book: Creating Hats for Every Occasion.
- I agree with other reviewers that this book is not for the serious miliner. However, if you want to dabble a bit, or have a fun hat that you'd like to spruce up - this will do the job for you. As usual with Juliet Bawden books, it's beautifully photographed and designed.
- I have this book and I like it. You can get some nice ideas from it, but if you make hats for a living...it's not for you. It is really for someone who plays at hat making.
- I beg to differ with others comments that this book wasn't as helpful as they would have liked. It gave great examples of what was possible in design. I found it more interesting than the 'from the neck up book' which was too technical. First off, the photography is great. The examples of hats are awesome. I loved the project for the appliqued garland straw brim. Overall,it's a great book to have if you're interested in millinery.
- This book has wonderful photos of all kinds of hats. However, it only contains instructions for making a few of them. I tried to make the Water Lily hat but found the instructions confusing and could not figure it out. However, if you are browing for hat embellishment suggestions or just want to look at nice photos to get ideas for hats the book is great.
- I think this is a good "recreational" book to pick up in a craft of fabric store when you have a light interest in hats. I did not find it went in depth enough for people who really want to DO hats. I need more info on EMBELLISHING and STYLIZING hats. This was just too basic and broad to give me much actionable information.

5 comments about Textile Designs: Two Hundred Years of European and American Patterns for Printed Fabrics Organized by Motif, Style, Color, Layout, and Period.
- A must for any textile designer.
This beautiful book is divided into textile themes and offers an amazing range of style, colour and subject.
A great source of inspiration for any surface designer or illustrator.
- This is a great book to have as a go-to book for anything in the textile design catagory; shapes, colors, period pieces, etc. My only disappointment was each reproduction of designs are somewhat small. None the less, there is a LOT to be found in this.
- This book is an essential resource for anyone wanting to reproduce historical clothing - use it to train your perception, use it as a dictionary of style names, use it as a quick, well organized reference. I love it and make my studio help and design interns study it.
- Finally a book that has everything I needed about fabrics.... lots of history and images to die for!!!! NICE WORK!!!! For its price, I would never of thought its contents was going to be so valuable!!!! I would buy this book OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!
- I've already known this book, because of this I've bought it!
It's really great ideia to have one if you are a Fashion and Patern Design!

3 comments about Watches International 2001: The Original Annual of the World's Finest Watches (Watches International).
- This volume is grossly inferior to its 2000 version and competing annual wristwatch publications in that (1)it omits prices, whether in Swiss francs or US dollars(2)a substantial amount of the illustrations are from the brand public relations materials without data and(3)recognized brands such as Lange,Blancpain,Breguet,Franck Muller,Glashutte,Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron Constantin are given much less page-space than such lesser brands as Bedat,Clerc,Concord,deGrisogono,Ikepod, etc.Save your $$$$ and buy Peter Braun's annual.
- I was very disappointed. The major brands are not well represented at all (with few exceptions) and too much space was given to jewelry/fashion watches for which serious collectors are not likely to be that interested. Perhaps comprehensive inclusion of the major companies required their financial participation. If so, they obviously opted out. A slick publication way off the mark. Could be much, much better.
- The book is beautifully published and photographed. It offers a good review of the history of watchmaking, especially helpful to the novice collector or the casual reader. The second tier and exotic bejewelled brands are catalogued in great detail over several pages each, but the Grande Marques watches such as Breguet, Cartier, Franck Muller, IWC, Omega, Ulysse Nardin and Vacheron Constantin are given a cursory overview in about a couple pages for each. As is customary for this publication, no retail prices are quoted. This significantly detracts from its usefulness and value to the serious watch collector. It is an interesting coffee table book, but more useful catalogues for the watch afficionado are Wristwatch Annual 2001 and Watches vol.4

2 comments about Fashion (A Crash Course).
- Not only can this be a very amusing and informative coffee table book, but you can sit down and read it like a novel. It goes through history (in a rather disorderly way) and writes about the different fashions of the times...different designers...and how time developed the current clothes we wear today. For the fashion victim or the fashionless...this is an adorable book.
- This is a great little book about 20th century fashion trends and their cultural and historical influences. I loved the layout and style of the book. Every two pages are on a different topic, so the book can be read and enjoyed in short segments. Also, there is a timeline at the top of each page that helps put each trend in the proper historical perspective. The only problem is that the print is quite small, so have your reading glasses handy!

4 comments about Reinventing Your Style: 7 Strategies for Looking Powerful, Dynamic and Inspiring.
- Jennifer Butler's book does not explore fashion as we have come to know it. Instead it teaches us to celebrate the uniqueness of each one of us and to discover how to give expression to that beauty which is peculiarly our own. The photographs display the wonderful success of her method.
- This book instills an appreciation of yourself as you are right now. It explains how to accessorize and create a look in harmony with your own features and eye color, hair color and skin tone rather than the latest trend or so-called hip colors advocated in fashion magazines for everyone. It encourages you to celebrate your own uniqueness and treat yourself as art through thoughtful principles and vivid photos of people, animals and nature. Be good to yourself and buy this book.
- Jennifer Butler's "Reinventing Your Style" is a Godsend for men and women wanting to present themselves in the most positive and powerful way. Her book is beautiful to behold, easy to read and more importantly, captures the basic design concepts for everyone to look their very best. Buy this book for yourself and buy this book for gift giving. Janice Evans
- As a speaker and author, I know firsthand how powerful it is to have a conscious, deliberate strategy for presenting myself~ it is a gesture of respect and appreciation for my clients and audiences and a sure-fire way to support the impact of my message. Jennifer Butler is a genius when it comes to helping you discover what's unique and brilliant about YOU and then work with contrast, texture, and other design elements (that regular people CAN learn and understand) to emphasize and make the most of YOU. You owe it to yourself to be at your best!
