1 comments about Agent Provocateur Exhibitionist.
- I am a fan of agent provocateur lingerie and their campaign. I was excited about this book but when I got it I found it was nothing but pictures of mannequins in store windows. I was expecting more of a fine art nude/lingerie book. Still the direction of the book is clear and I can't ding them for that. It basically is store fronts that are provocative. Maybe I will find use for it. I take off stars because of the let down but it was still neat reading about the company. Agent Provocateur has more balls than Victoria's Secret. Glad there is still something in mass market out there with flavor.

1 comments about Tibet Style.
- A delightful photo essay recording the innate sense of style in the way the beautiful Tibetan people have dressed themselves for centuries. The combinations and compositions of textiles, color, animal skins , embellishments and ornamentation is nothing less than spectacular...considering they had no access to any parisian couture salon. Often with many cases of tribal dressing, there is more function than pure design at work, but despite, the aesthetic is stunningly raw, yet eye catchingly oppulent. And their natural rugged, even harsh, environment only enhances the glorious, majestic glamour of their native clothing.

5 comments about Fashions of a Decade: The 1940s (Fashions of a Decade).
- From the vantage point of a historian, I value this book as a lavishly illustrated and researched book about the clothing of an era, and how that clothing reflected the intense cultural changes of the 1960s. The outstanding representation of the society of the decade with photographs, drawings, album covers, movie posters and art brought the text to life.
As a Baby Boomer, I saw this book as a nostalgic glance at my school days -- virtually a yearbook for graduates of the Mods, Rockers and Hippie school of fashion.
Fashions of a Decade: The 1960s is highly recommended for the history student, fashion student, or anyone looking for an authentic look into the heart of an era. Brava!
- I really enjoyed this book. Its an interesting read about the effect of WWII on world fashion and also a helpful resorce guide to fashion and trends of the era. I must for any vintage clothing collector or swing kid!
- I borrowed this book along with the other volumes (1940 to 1970 )from my library. This was exactly what I need for my assignment of different body types and the power of non verbal communication. It was very interesting and would recommend buying. This book was outstanding!
- I thought this book was well written, even if it is supposedly for kids. It was full of information, pictures, and interesting trivia. As a free-lance writer and researcher of the Twenties, it's a good book to have in one's personal library!
- I found this book to be well writen and researched. The illustrations were great, and very inspiring. I can't wait to try and sew some of these fashions myself. The historical aspects of the Fashions of the 1940s was very informative.

- Inspirational, detailed, visually pleasing, good for research, and refrence. A must have if you are in the fashion industry
- This is a great resource for costume designers and anyone else wanting to capture the look of a particular period. The drawings are detailed and include men's and women's styles for each year from the 1920s to the 1980s. Examples include evening wear, daywear, sportswear, and even underwear and wedding fashions. Accessories (hats, shoes, handbags) are also pictured. Plenty can be learned just from looking at the pictures, although the descriptions that follow help to summarize the particulars of line, fabrics, etc. Very easy to use. I LOVE this book and will refer to it often in my work. I wish Peacock would do one for earlier fashions.

2 comments about Hedi Slimane: Intermission.
- This is not to be mistaken for a book on Slimane's collections. It is, rather, a glimpse into what Slimane sees in his own environment. That he can take something as mundane as hotel curtains and Venetian blinds and render them in a seductive and physically palpable manner in a book is a reflection of his talent for design. The glamour of Slimane's collections and his life is captured in the production of the book itself, in the reflective, almost luscious materiality of the mylar pages coupled with the luxurious coloring of the photographs.
It is not for every individual, but perhaps those with the vision to "see."
- Alright, so I just bought this book by my all time idol, Hedi Slimane. Granted I didn't know a whole lot about it, but I love the guy, so I drop the [money] amyway. I just keep telling myself, its by Hedi, its going ot be excellent.
Imagine, then, my chagrin when I find that this is a book of curtains. CURTAINS. Not curtains designed by Mr. Slimane mind you, oh no. Curtains from hotel rooms that Hedi presumably stayed in. Curtains. The book is printed on heavy mylar/laminate, reaks of vinyl, and is bisected by slighlty unnerving pictures of the model on the cover, that is, they are the same picture that is featured on the cover, just reflected on each page as if by a fun house mirror. And of course there are the curtains. Two Hundred and Eight pages of Just Curtains. Er, wait, there was one full page spread of Venetian Blinds, I stand corrected. Every now and then there's just a blank page, sometimes just a completely reflective one. I dunno, if you think its worth it, go a ahead and buy it. Personal Opinion, this would have been slighlty more entertaining, and a little less pretentiously preposterous if it were called "Through a Whore's Eyes: Curtains from Hotel Rooms Around the World" At least then there's some intrigue implied, and not, "Hedi needed to get rid of a roll of film on the double." or if it should come with a shirt "Hedi Stayed in fancy hotel rooms with an instamatic and all I got was this 70 Dollar Smelly Coffee Table Accoutrement".

5 comments about Intimate: Nudes by Marc Baptiste.
- This book is very inspiring to a budding photographer like myself.
Gives great ideas.
- This is a great book because it deals with real people and not just models. You get to see the female body in all aspects and get to appreciate the female nude from a truly amazing photographer.
This would be a great coffee table book as long as your guests are not taken aback because of the nuidity.
- This book shows women of all colors and several ethnicities. My personal favorite is the black woman with a long, colorful tattoo of flowers on her back. Many of the photographs, I'm sorry to say, show people smoking--something that is unhealthy, unsexy, and unwise. A number of the photographs show women with men, though there is nothing explicit--just suggestion, and artfully so. Some of the photographs have a blurry, out-of-focus presentation that seems to be widely favored these days. I'd like to see less of that and more straightforward portrayal of women's beauty. After all, that's why I buy books of female nudes.
- Being a female photographer I am very keen on the word "intimate" and its relationship to women posing nude. Nude photography must be intimate and carefully done with as much sensitivity as possible. I find Marc's work to be a tad unnatural and not very intimate. I guess if it was not titled as such I could look at it with a different frame of mind!
- This is one of the worst examples of nude photographic art that I have ever seen. It is so bad that I even couldn't bring mysel to try to resale it so I threw it into the garbage can where it belongs. I could write a whole book about how bad it is but I don't want to waste the time. IT IS TERRIBLE FROM AN ARTIST PROSPECTIVE!!!!!!!
