- Quilters seem to be as varied a group of artisans as painters when it comes to accepting information on individual technical approaces and personal repertoir with medi and style delivery.I give this book 5 stars for approaching quilting as bas relief, mural and sculptural media possibilities.I haven't seen another book so daring in concepts, and I did buy "lark masters art quilters" in my same purchase order.
This is a book worth buying, especially if you are an artist.
The Lark book,well,that's another review.
- I thought the pictures were amazing. It just wasn't quite what I expected. I found the book a little hard to read.
- I was so impressed by the cover of this book that I preordered it. I gave it four stars instead of five because, although I found it inspirational, it is not really a "how to" book. It seems more like an artist talking about the way she came to making unique and impressive quilts.

2 comments about Fashion Now 2 (Fashion).
- I knew about fahion books published by Taschen during a Fashion Course I took last Summer in Italy. I got this one and another titled Fashion History and let me tell you that they offer really great books considering their price, quality, photos and the information presented about the topic.
This book contains a summary of the biographies and work of the most renowed Fashion Designers and the emerging talent on the Fashion Industry. I suggest to keep it not only as a reference book but also as a guide for further research.
- this is one of the best fashion books out there. a breif discription of all the best designers in the industry. a good reference to keep.

4 comments about Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel.
- Fabulous book. I saw the exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum 3 times, and I was so disappointed that there was no catalogue. I was thrilled to see this book whole browsing at The Strand. The price on Amazon was a real bargain.
- This book reminds all its readers that true style grows from individuality. In a time were you would recognize a stylist's style easier than the style of a designer, Iris Apfel's approach to and interpretation of fashion is the light at the end of the tunnel, she certainly has nudged me into the one or the other "true to myself experiment". Iris Apfel's witty introduction perfectly accessoirizes the clothes and jewellery presented, not only poviding background information on how this exhibition came to life but also shedding light on a certainly most interesting and colorful life in a warmhearted and humorous way. This book most certainly will be a longterm occupant of my coffee table.
- Loved, loved this book. The comments, the photography and most importantly the crediting of designers to each style was extremely well done. This rare bird of fashion serves us notice that we should embrace our individual style and glory in it and not follow the herd or be shy about manifesting our true "feathers".
- I was lucky enough to view the exhibit 'Iris Apfel - Rare Bird of Fashion' at the Norton Museum in Palm Beach, and what a visual treat it was... Not only is she an icon of fashion, but her style, her combinations of colors and her very different approach to the matter is something everybody should see and study. I have seen and met her in New York, she is the most terrific person!!! The book is amazing as well, great photography!!! I will always treasure this book and every time I open it, there is something else to marvel at or read about... An absolutely great source of inspiration, that simply makes you smile! One could only wish there will be other 'rare birds' to follow her lead.

5 comments about Nothing to Wear?: A Five-Step Cure for the Common Closet.
- I really enjoyed this book. I read it in two sittings and was motivated to immediately began getting rid of the clothes that just didn't work, and buying a few items to complete my wardrobe. Identifying my style was very helpful as well as the three questions, Do I love it? Does it flatter?....etc, and the other suggestions such as creating a style guide were very helpful. I highly recommend this book, and will refer to it often. Also, the pictures are so cool, Ruben Toledo is an awesome illustrator.
- Before reading Nothing to Wear, I considered myself completely useless when it came to putting an outfit together. I always looked disheveled, no matter how much time and effort I put into my clothes. After reading this book, I was able to look through my closet and identify what to keep and what to get rid of, get a capsule wardrobe together (as suggested) and completely revamp my look.
As a result, people at work and in my personal life began to take notice and listen to me more seriously. I highly recommend this read to anyone who may be remotely unsatisfied with their sense of style or who may be walking out the door feeling unconfident in the morning. I was truly inspired by the enthusiasm and easy to follow steps to achieve a consistant, well put together, chick look.
- A lot of this book had good practical information but I think it lost a bit when it came to classifying the 5 types...Bohemian, Chic, Classic, Avant Garde and Whimsical. The list of "cake" to have was good, but in no way helped add those extra pieces that would give depth to each type. And what if you ended up as a mixture of types?
The inspiration board confused me. The one they showed bore no real resemblance in the end to the wardrobe of the woman they showcased (Julie?).
The three Q's were useful but this should have been a much more substantial examination of how to translate your type into your clothing.
- I absolutely love this book! After borrowing a copy from my public library and thumbing through it at least 2 dozen times, I'm going to be purchasing my own copy. Of all the wardrobe-styling books I've read (and I own several), this book holds up incredibly well on repeat readings. It's a slim volume but packed with excellent stuff. Do not heed the reviewers who say this is light on information--not true! An uncluttered layout leavened with photos and whimisical pen-and-ink fashion illustrations make for easy yet memorable reading. The boys break dressing down into 5 Fashion Types: Classic, Chic, Whimsical, Bohemian and Avant Garde, providing a quiz and 'case studies' of each type. After helping you determine your Type, they provide valuable tips on organizing a workable and steamlined closet and stocking it with clothing items that meet the "Three Q's": Do I love it? Is it flattering? Does it project the image I want to portray? Their advice is valuable even for women who are heavier and lower on funds than the average fashionista, but in order to get maximum benefit from Joe and Jesse's expertise, it helps to be happy with your current size and have money to spend on quality new clothes. Even so, they almost make cleaning out your closet sound like fun . . .?! For those of us who cannot afford their personal services, purchasing this book is the next best thing. Highly recommended.
- If you have ever opened your closet door and stared at racks of clothes but found nothing to wear, this book is for you! Joe Lupo, an experienced style consultant who has also appeared many times on Oprah, offers a practical guide to finding your style, paring down your wardrobe, and getting organized! I gave away about 200 items when I was finished and my wardrobe has never been better! We know what to do, but this guide helps us do it!

5 comments about Sailor Jerrys Tattoo Stencils.
- A good source of very nice Sailor Jerry Stencils from the man who in my opinion did the best traditional tattoo flash ever.
Not as good as the now difficult to get Sailor Jerry Tattoo Flash books (volumes 1 and 2), which give a better of idea of this man's talents drawing flash. It has some extra stencils of things not in those books, so it is well worthwhile.
- I feel that every single tattoo artist, inspiring tattoo artist, or any kind of artists and even art historian should, must own this book. I will admit that when I read the first 15 pages cause thats all there is with any writting on. I had a tear in both my eyes. Every single page back to back is covered with Jerrys tattoo stencils. Also every page is in a very heavy duty paper and they are perforated so you can take each page out and laminate them and use in your shop or portfolio of flash to use for you customer/clients. Every page is full of history. I highly recomend this book and the otherjerrys stencil books they are a very big must have specialy for you buisness/shop you will be so excited to look at the tats not to mention the money you will make from the stencils. I noticed that every single Tattoo magazine has countless tattoos specialy the women are covered in this art. I recomend this book in a big way.
You are very welcome for the big tip.
- The book is good for simple, traditional stencils. The drawings are super basic (as they should be for that time), but I was hoping I can get an idea for what the stencils looks like with color and shading. The drawings are fun to mimic and be creative with your own shading and color.
- I was looking for Pin Up Art Styles and found it all in this book. All the styles are for men & women. When You go into a tattoo shop and look at all the art work on the walls and books; this book has it all summed up. This cool book has it all.
- Beautiful old school stencils of the original artwork of Sailor Jerry...what more could you want! :)

3 comments about Textiles (10th Edition).
- This was an easy textbook to follow when I took my textiles class. It is very informative and interesting.
- I had been searching through all of the sewing books I could find to learn more about the nature of fabric and fibers...and everything I could possibly want to know was here, and more. Absolutely fascinating. It is a textbook, but was written clearly enough that anyone with an interest in the area can easily understand it. I've been teaching classes to costumers and members of the local American Sewing Guild, who are equally impressed with the knowledge we got from this book.
- I use this book as the text for teaching a basic textiles course for sophmores. This text provides a sound foundation for students understanding the textiles and the science foundations that are the base for predicting textile performance. Every line is packed with information; there is no fluff in this book. If you want to understand WHY textiles and textile products perform in specific ways, this is the book to buy.

5 comments about Before You Put That On: 365 Daily Style Tips for Her.
- I watched him on Oprah and she's on point again. And I have read many,
believe me. What is so cool about Lloyd's book, is that it is easy. Almost
like reading a style horoscope each day. I used mostly clothes that I
already own, which was refreshing and such a savings. I love his timeless
take on style. I highly recommend this book for real women seeking style in
small, smart doses.
- there's no order to the tips, most of which are not actually tips but inspirational burlbs or short interviews with fashion designers. many of the tips are not applicable or really pointless: wear a white top with a shiny skirt and knee high boots!
no really? you think that might work? overall, it's condescending and aimed towards a clueless audience.
- I think it is a very helpful book with lots of practical and fun tips for being fashion-forward. However, the way it is written (tip for a day) can be confusing if you want to catalog a particular suggestion or piece of information to refer back to at a later date.
- I recently watched Lloyd on Oprah for the whole hour, talking about fashion tips for women. She featured his book and recommended it, and of course she was so right! I bought the book immediately. Lloyd really knows how to give great, easy-to-follow style advice for real women. His book taught me lots of things about creating my own personal style in a simple, yet informative fashion. I am definitely buying this book for my mom, sister, and all of my girl friends for the holidays!
- This should have been sold as a Tip-of-the-Day Fashion Calendar. It's definitely not a fashion book. The book is very poorly organized. There are no sections, just days of the year. Who wants to scan a whole book for one or two helpful clues? The book is just full of scattered thoughts and is a pain to read. Avoid it. Instead check out The Science of Sexy by Bradley Bayou and How Not To Look Fat by Danica Lo. These are two excellent books.
