5 comments about Collector's Guide to Dolls of the 1960s and 1970s: Identification & Values, Vol. 1.
- I saw this book sticking out on a shelf in the library. Though I don't have a doll interest I decided to check it out. I've checked it out at least five times since then.
The book is so colorful and beautifully laid out. The woman has a sense of humor about the bizarre items of the past, some of which would never pass today like the doll Flatsy. Another item of this book was Growing Hair Cher where a person could make Cher's hair go up and down with a key. I've shown this to other people and it always manages to get a couple of laughs.
- This book is great. I am very pleased with it. It has lots of dolls to look at/look up. The dolls are catagorized by manufactorer but if you can't find your doll that way the index is extremely easy to use. It has helped me a lot in my doll collecting and it has also helped add some dolls to my want list. All in all wonderful book, worth buying.
- Cindy Sabulis' Dolls Of The 1960s And 1970s (162-5, pairs pages packed with color photos of the dolls and most often their boxes with identification tips and values ranges. This will prove an invaluable guide for any avid doll collector needing a complete reference to makers and dolls of these eras.
- Cindy has done it again - This is a FABULOUS guide to all those dolls we played with back then! Cindy has indexed this book by all of the popular (and not-so-popular) doll manufacturers in order by year of release. Everything is full color, with approximate secondary market values! Vinyl dolls from the 60's and 70's are rapidly growing in value on the collector's market and buyers have the BEST opportunity now to scour, ID and sell - this is one book you do not want to be without at doll shows! I enjoyed reacquainting myself with most all of the dolls displayed. Thanks, Cindy!
- This is a terrific book with tons of bright and detailed photos. Contains a lot of the popular dolls from this period- along with some that are not so popular (which is nice for identifying). Contains dolls such as Liddle Kiddles, Dolly Darling, Crissy, Flatsy, Playpal, Thumbelina, Barbie, Darcy, Tammy, and so many more. It is a pleasure to read so you will find yourself coming back to look at it even when you don't have a doll to identify.

1 comments about Dolls' Clothes.
- I was loving this book for its designs until I came to the pattern section. Normally this type of book, for people who sew doll clothes, has a pattern piece with 3 sizes outlined on the page. Once you understand the format, you can either trace the size you need or copy the page and cut out the size you need. In this book, they have superimposed a pattern piece over another piece, so there can be 2 or 3 or 4 pieces on one page! What results is a mass jumble of lines. It takes forever to make sure you have the pattern piece you are looking for, because there are lines everywhere. In addition, they run pieces across the middle binding, which adds to the confusion and creates a problem reproducing it. Other books print the extended piece of say, a pair of pants, as a separate piece on the next page and you have to cut the piece and combine it on your fabric...much easier for the sewer. I think they were trying to cut down on the number of pages, but all they got was a confusing, time-consuming mess. The designs are great; the pattern format makes it not worth my time or money.

5 comments about Home Decor for 18" Dolls.
- I made several things from this book. It's a little outdated style-wise, but that's easy enough to change with your fabric and notions. I also used the sleeping bag as a guide on sizing to come up with a more complex design.
- I was terribly disappointed with this book. It looked like it had plans for building furniture for 18-inch dolls, but doesn't. It suggests where you can buy the furniture, but that company no longer produces furniture. When I contacted the author, Joan Hinds, she said she was disappointed, too, that they no longer make the furniture. Book, therefore, is useless to me.
- It says "Home Decor"... It says "Full-Size patterns for fashions and accessories.." I was so excited because I wanted all the ideas of how to make the furniture shown on the cover-- thought the furniture was an accessory pattern. Well, there are no furniture patterns in this book... It's just pictures of "bought" furniture arranged in rooms and painted and/or decorated in different ways. It has a pattern for a rug, for a cushion, etc. and clothes patterns... I'm going to give it away or something.
- What a fantastic book for those hard to make beddings and decor! She even tells you exactly where you can purchase the unfinished furniture. The patterns are excellent and easy to understand and follow. Finally, there is a book that shows how to dress up the decor and accessories!
- It is a lovely book but I want to caution you that there are no patterns for the furniture. The furniture is bought ready made from Walnut Hollow and the directions are for decorating it. At least one of the items is not available in the Walnut Hollow catalog that just came out. There are directions for making foamcore backgrounds. If you already have the clothing books you may not want this one also unless you need instructions for tablecloths, bedspreads and such. Cute ideas though.

5 comments about Collectible Doll Fashions, 1970s (Schiffer Book for Collectors (Paperback)).
- Varrichio's book is unique in showcasing doll fashions from the 70's beyond the usual suspects from Mattel. Many long-time collectors, including myself, might not have seen many of these fashion lines. Some are rare yet inexpensive Mattel clones, while others (ie, Mego, Kenner, Ideal) are major lines that are hard to find today. The book is replete with a variety of hidden treasures for the serious doll collector to pursue, thus distinguishing it from every other compendium of doll fashions that this reviewer has read. The quality of the photos and creativity of the narratives are excellent. This book is a must-have for traditional Barbie collectors as well as those who want to expand their repertoire beyond Mattel.
- I just purchased this wonderful book. I really cannot put it down. The pictures are crisp and clear. The descriptions are perfect and the commentary is priceless. This is one book every doll collector needs to own. This took a lot of work to do, and it is well worth the money. Great job Carmen Varricchio!!
- This book blew me away! I've been collecting dolls all my life practically and I knew of several clone style outfits but this book has so many items that I hadn't seen before. And it gave me so much needed information on Tuesday Taylor, Tiffany Taylor, Dawn Doll Clone Outfits and a ton more. I love a book that covers the obscure and this books does a great job with a wealth of information. It shows doll lines that no one else has covered at all! I refer to this book all the time because of my line of work. So it's a definate keeper in my collection! And the one thing that really stands out in my opinion, is the quality of the pictures. They are bright and clear. You're not left guessing what the colors or hues are really like in person. So I'm very impressed! (And I'm a picky person) And it's a fun read too! I would really love to see a volume 2 on this book!! I'd be the first in line to buy it! THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!
- I just love this book! The pictures are wonderful, clear and colorful, but it's the descriptions that make it oh so fun. The descriptions are very straightforward and concise, and many are funny enough to make me chuckle to myself. You just know exactly what Carmen means. I remember the 70's.
This book is a great addition to any fashion doll collectors reference as it covers many of the other dolls that were around during the Mod/Best Buy era of Barbie. Lot's of new and interesting information.
- I have enjoyed this book over and over again. It is an excellent resource, clear pictures and a wide range of information on Doll Fashions. Well worth purchsaing. The author is knowledgeable and goes beyond the typical barbie fashions to sharing about a wide range of doll fashions from the 1970's. Can't wait for Volume 2!

1 comments about China, Parian & Bisque German Dolls: Ca. 1840-Ca. 1900.
- "A large number of beautiful and unusaul photographic material, many of the early dolls with china, parian and bisque heads are presented in this book for the delight of collectors and art enthusiasts. Skillfully modeled hair styles and trimmings adorned these dolls. Through their subtlely and artistic modelling they are often far more valuable as an art object than a play doll. Since many of them are sought after by collectors, this book presents for the first time in great diversity and color, a wide selection of the most beautiful dolls. They are the oldest among the china head dolls, especially remarkable, and their past extends up to the Royal Porcelain Manufacturers of the 19th century from Meissen and Berlin. Until now their past lay rather poorly illuminated, so that very little was known about these dolls. Only in the last few years has painstaking detective work by comparison of old findings determined new information. Thus was it possible, for the first time to associate a larger number of doll heads to their respective manufacturers. This book illuminates a largely unknown chapter of doll history, offers new knowledge and provides the collector and student of art with valuable help in appreciating, identifying and collecting the modelled hair dolls of the 19th century German dolls."

5 comments about Blue Book of Dolls & Values (Blue Book Dolls and Values).
- Jan and Howard Foulke did a superb job with this book. I just gave the book to my mother, who has hundreds of dolls, and she loved it. Keep up the good work. Kathrine Peterson/author Dolls Aren't Just for Kids, The Ultimate Guide for Doll Lovers
- First this isn't an ID guide and no one should approach it as such. Books for the purposes of identification abound. The Blue Book assumes you have ID'ed your doll. Second, this is a guide and more importantly it is a HISTORY of values (prices paid at shows, auctions, etc.) since the last one was published. The market has a way of fluctuating and the book is not gospel, just a guide. If you're buying, you can expect to pay more or less than the book indicates. Keep that history part in mind...! If you're selling... well, these are "retail" prices by-in-large. Selling to a dealer will never net you retail. The Blue Book is still the best of its sort around!
- This book will help all collectors, experienced to novice, to identify and price dolls. Set up simply, it's easy to find the doll you're looking for. If you can only buy one doll book, buy this one. It's the book doll prices are based on.
- I normally enjoy Jan's works on dolls. However, I was disappointed by the lack of documentation on such important features as marks and identification of manufacturers. I realize no book can be the definitive documentation on all dolls ever produced, but had Jan included more specific information, it would have eliminated some matches for me. As such, even for dolls I might have considered mine to be, I couldn't match or dismiss them.
- The Blue Book contains a terrific amount of information for all collectors! It is a guide, and market conditions greatly influence any price - so prices do vary. A great carry along to any auction, or sale! I wish that the Antique and Modern doll information would be split into two books - as I find it a bit distracting having to wade through information I am not interested in. Hopefully in the future this can be done and there will be a strictly antique and a separate modern value guide.
All-in-all, a fantastic reference guide to prices and identification.
