2 comments about Boston Terriers For Dummies (For Dummies (Pets)).
- This is not really a book about Boston Terriers - it's more of a general book about dogs. There's less in this book about the breed than you would find on the first page of a Google search. This was a waste of money.
- This is an excellent book for people who own Bostons or those who are interested in the breed. You will learn about the origins of this spirited little hybrid dog (Bostons are the result of crossing old English bulldogs with small white terriers) as well as how to train and care for your Boston throughout your pet's life.
Bostons are delightful, high spirited little dogs. Small and compact, they have bulldog faces and hardy, sturdy bodies. They are extremely intelligent as a breed and need a lot of one-on-one handling. Bostons are generally eager to please and make wonderful family pets.
It is important to know how to care for pregnant Bostons. Fortunately, this book has a good section on pregnant Boston bull care. More often than not, pregnant Bostons have to have their puppies delivered by C-section because Boston puppies have extremely large heads that would make for a difficult delivery. Feeding and making a place for the pregnant Boston is included.
This is an excellent book for anybody who owns or just plain loves a Boston bull.

5 comments about Puppy Preschool, Revised Edition: Raising Your Puppy Right---Right from the Start!.
- Before we got our puppy I went to the library to do research on how best to train a puppy. I checked out numerous books trying to figure out which was the best book. I got to Puppy Preschool and it was, by far, the best resource I found. It had a lot of useful information and I immediately bought the book after reading the library's version. I can now proudly say I have a puppy who is very well trained and always responds to commands.
- This is the only book that needs to be printed on puppy training. I used it 11 years ago when I trained our two Maltese puppies, and gave out a copy with each of the 12 baby maltese that our two eventually had over the next 3 years, when each puppy left with their new owner. I was so happy to find it still available when we added another Maltese puppy to our family 5 months ago. Train with kindness and love is the underlying message of this book and it works.
- These guys really know what they are talking about and have helped us immensley with our new puppy. We have even gone back and had to re-read several of the sections because they were so useful.
- I have read 5 different dog / puppy books and several magazines. I think this is definately the best I've read so far. It teaches you how to be the pack leader ... too many books gloss over that completely. The books I've read before haven't really addressed the fact that dogs don't think the way people do. For some reason, Americans are always trying to humanize their pets... they treat them like little people, thinking dogs understand or think the way we do. Wrong! The result - most 'American' dogs are badly behaved - and end up unwanted. I've noticed that Germans have very well behaved dogs and people don't get rid of / or give up their pets like Americans do. I think it's because Germans treat their dogs like dogs, not like little people. Get this book BEFORE you get a puppy and study it!!! You will be happy and your puppy will be happy. Remember, if you aren't the pack leader - your dog will assume the role (whether he wants to or not... someone MUST be the pack leader, even if it has to be the dog). If it isn't you, you'll end up miserable (because your dog is out of control) and so will the dog... because you just might end up getting rid of him. And you'll be missing out on a great relationship with your canine companion. Read this book to get you off on the right start, ... then follow up with Dog Talk.
- I love this book!!!! My first puppy was driving me crazy!!! We just could not understand each other. My mom recommended Puppy Preschool, and it was a life saver. We just got another puppy, and I re-read the book. It gives a ton of insight on the way a puppy thinks. It is extrememly helpful, even for those who think they already know. It is written in a conversational style that is easy to follow. John Ross's own personal experiences are nice examples for his points and also funny. I would not get a puppy without this book.

5 comments about Saint Bernards (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals).
- I had hoped for more Saint specific advice (especially nutrition and obedience training). This book may be useful to a first time dog-owner but if you are looking for advice breed specific, this book is not it!
- This book prepares you with the pros and cons of getting a Saint. I bought this book and it really helped me get ready for the challenges of owning this beautiful dog!! I definately recommended it.
- This is the best dog care books I have ever read, it is perfect how they describe one of the best dogs that you can have. This book includes many color pictures of the St. Bernard ecspecially the puppies. It is the best book in this dog series. This is a must for soon to be or St. Bernard owner.

2 comments about About Tracking Dog Training: Creating a Problem Solving Partnership.
- This book is well written and fills a needed gap in canine tracking books.
The writer uses a down-to-earth, sympathetic approach to the sport of tracking and I highly recommend it.
Dot Parsons
- I purchased this book to assist me with my quest to put a Versility title on my Cardigan. Tracking is a difficult trial to get into in my state so one wants to be prepared as possible. I found Ms. Mueller's book to be well written, easy to follow and inspirational. The author covers working both small and large dogs on the tracks which has not always been covered in other books I've read. My smaller dog has his own way of doing things and it's nice that this was acknowledged in her book. The author neither "talks down" to the reader or "over the head" of an inexperienced handler. She covers all aspects of tracking well and includes her own experiences to give credibility to the writing. Versitility Title. . . here we come! 4 comments about The Reign of the Greyhound.
- This is an excellent book for those who want an in depth look at the history of the greyhound. It doesn't have info. on how to care, treat, or train, but it provides more background than I've found in any other book. The author uses personal references which make it more meaningful. Really, an enjoyable read from a greyhound foster parent, active rescuer, and a 4 time adopter.
- Being both a sighthound owner and a history buff, I was so delighted to have found this book. I can't recommend it enough.
I can guarantee that if you haven't had experience with sighthounds, you will want to after reading this! For those of us who know the breed, it is a long overdue salute to one of the most overlooked and unappreciated dog breeds in the world. I especially liked the photos that accompanied the text. It was wonderful to see so many representations of greyhounds through the ages. I thought that chapter 1, on the Greyhound family, was very informative, and the author managed to put a lot of information that is rarely found all in one place into a very readable and enjoyable format. Read this book- You'll love it, even if you don't own a Greyhound! I hope that Cynthia Branigan's book helps many many more retired racing Greyhounds find homes with people who learn about them from her book as well.
- I thought I knew all there was to know about my Greyhound until I read this book. In it I learned that my dog's ancestors have been delighting humans for literally thousands of years. The book takes you on a tour of the history of civilization with Greyhounds in the leading role. If only history had been so interesting when I was in school! The artwork is breathtaking, the adoption anecdotes are both hilarious and touching and Cynthia Branigan is obviously both a scholar and a person with a big heart. If you own a Greyhound you owe it to your dog to learn more about his contribution to history.
- I was not really interested in the history of greyhounds, but have been contemplating adopting one. I received this book as a gift, and enjoyed it much more than I expected. She makes it interesting with some amazing stories, with some astronomical numbers in some cases. The most interesting part is her own experiences with these dogs. A good read.

4 comments about Guide to Owning a Pit Bull Terrier: Puppy Care, Grooming, Training, History, Health, Breed Standard (Re Series).
- I'm about to donate a Kidney to my mom. and after im done with that i wanted to get me a Blue Pit Bull. but b4 i did i wanted to get a lot of info about the breed. So i ordered this book. and i loved it. iv already red it. and ill still flip through it from time to time.
And it give you great tips on owning a Pitbull. and warns you how people well give you Dirty Look when they see you walking with him/her and tells you to read and get as much info of the breed as you can. So that you can tell people about your dog. and defend the breed with facts.
- I disagree with the other reviewers. This book is not substantial at all and does not give you any information that you couldn't get yourself from 5 minutes on the net. Not to mention there is a part of the book where the pages repeat themselves. I may be biased as I have not read other Pit Bull books to make a comparison. However, I read a LOT of books with many of them instructional, and I have to say, this one just plain SUCKS. Look for something else.
- I bought this book at a Pit Bull wieght pulling show a few years ago & I loved it!! It was very well written, indepth & informative! I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in learning the truth about the American Pit Bull Terrier, it is also a great referance book, I still find myself looking through it once in awhile. :)
- AWESOME! This book gives the reader an in depth look at the Pit Bull. It tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about the Pitbull. If you are interested in getting a Pit, I HIGHLY suggest this book. It talks about EVERYTHING!

5 comments about Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care.
- If you own a small dog, this is a MUST READ!! The author has done a tremendous amount of reseach and has such good information. You won't be disappointed!
-
I read the whole book Sunday and can't say enough about how wonderful it is. To be able to write like that and to give so much useful information, even references to things that are not fun for dogs to have happen to them, is a gift to all companion animals and their people. I loved the writing style and learned so much. Our pets are important family members. This book teaches you how to keep them healthier by vaccinating less, feeding them nutritional food that can in the end cost less and save on veterinary bills. The books is a great resource for everything you want to know about your dog's happiness and health.
- Chiclet and her "mom" have done an exemplary job of researching and compiling a much needed resource for pet owners. Scared Poopless provides a humorous, yet insightful look into the trials and tribulations encountered when caring for our beloved four-legged "kids." This book raises many questions that we have as animal guardians and encourages us to explore all available options in seeking answers. I carry it in my practice and sell it to clients at my cost.
- My name is April and I am the owner of Dogs On The Run.[...]Being that I am working with animals everyday and educating my staff and clients, I felt this book was not only fun but educational and easy to read. I think the auther did an outstanding job on this book and will be sure to recommend it to everyone I know who wants the "Straight Scoop on Dog Care."
- As both a dog owner and veterinarian by profession, I work in the world of medical science and I live in the world as a devoted dog owner. Therefore, I can truly appreciate the need for Scared Poopless: The Straight Scoop on Dog Care. Although the title might suggest the content is someone trivial, this author has poured her heart, detective skills and keen sense of intuition into real fact finding and honest answers. Her concerns should also be your concerns and her cautions, your yellow flag! In these times we are all bombarded with tons of information and often not enough time to make truly informed decisions. Therefore, I encourage you to let Jan Rasmusen be your guide to bridge the dangerous gap between advances in modern medicine and aggressive marketing campaigns fueled by drug companies to help you decide what is best for the dog in your life.

5 comments about Great Danes.
- This was an ok Dane book. I bought Great Dane: Model of Nobility and that is the best book for anyone wanting to know about Great Danes. It gives all the info you could ever want. It is out of print, but you can get it from a marketplace vendor or you can go to the author's dane website. Just google Jill Swedlow and you will find it. She has where you can print it out for free off of her site.
- From the first sentence of the boook, there is a recurring theme that "Giant Dogs bring Giant Responsibilities." While this is certainly good advice, it was repeated so often throughout the book that I got the impression that the author was trying to discourage readers from getting a Great Dane. He spent a lot of time discussing health issues (always the problems the dog can get)but little time discussing what to do about them. AFter reading the book, it is enough to make a prospective owner consider opting for another breed. If you read the book, balance it with information from another Great Dane book, as this one is biased against new owners.
- Service is great and the book arrived in new condition. Its a great resource for people willing to have a great dane puppy.
- I purchased a great dane and really was looking for something breed specific to find information to help me to care for my dane correctly. It answered my questions very well and in easy to read and understand language. A must for any first-time dane owner. Many beautiful Dane pictures. And very economically priced.
- I like this book to loan people who are considering getting a dane, as well as keeping a copy for myself. I think it explains how wonderful they truly are, but also explains the responsibilities of owning this breed. In many ways, they're more like an exotic pet and do have special care requirements, which he explains. He tells of the ups and the downs and makes you realize that your life won't be the same and you must be sure that this is what you want. Of the two people I've loaned my spare copy to, one got a dane and adored it & another decided against it. And I have another person who wants to borrow it, as they're considering a dane. Very helpful to a new or prospective dane owner. Also has many beautiful, naturally-taken dane pictures throughout.

- Man's best friend can also be one of man's best workers. "Working Sheep Dogs: A Practical Guide to Breeding, Training, and Handling" is a comprehensive handbook to raising and training one's sheep dogs to serve their tasks. Covering every aspect of raising and educating a dog in terms that one doesn't need to be a veterinarian to understand, "Working Sheep Dogs" is a seminal book on the subject. 1 comments about Training Secrets for Golden Retrievers.
- This was exactly what I needed. The book gives step by step instructions on training your Golden. It also give reasons for certain Golden behaviors. It is actually a magazine type book but boy is it great. I can't wait to get started on the techniques, especially the technique for training a Golden not to pull you all over the neighborhood when you are walking. Goldens are big strong dogs and it can get tiring. Wonderfully informative book. I would highly recommend it.
