5 comments about PugTherapy: Finding Happiness, One Pug at a Time.
- This is one of my favorite books. I always joke that pugs are better therapy than I could ever provide!! My husband and I are profoundly pug people, and this book exemplifies the natural humor and grace of our curly tailed loved ones! An absolute must have if your favorite therapeutic tool snorts a lot and farts like crazy!!! (smile)
- This is just an adorable gift book with equally adorable pictures of pugs in costume and in their natural condition. Little tidbits of advice are given, but mainly this is just a feel good book with some cute pictures of cute chubby curly tailed pugs.
- This is the most adorable book with lovable pugs. The captions are so cute and fit the charm of the pug.
- I went through a really dark period in my life. After trying everything, even electroshock therapy, I found this book and it changed my life. Thank you, pugs!
- As a wanna-be pug owner, this book is the next best thing! This is the perfect gift for the pug-lovers in your life. The photographs are beautifully done with inspired captions. It's nothing less than page after page of cuteness. If you are a fan of pugs, this is the book for you.

5 comments about From Problems to Profits: The Madson Management System for Pet Grooming Businesses.
- So far what I have read has been very helpful in starting my business. There are many ideas and helpful forms to help you along. Also, it is easy reading and you can highlite the pages.
- This book was purchased for me to help set up a business plan for self-serve dog wash with employees. I was not impressed with some of the ideas that were mentioned in the book regarding the design and style of cards to send to the customers to encourage continued business. Overall, this book was helpful and it sparked my own ideas.
- Not exactly what I was looking for. Thought it would have more of example business plans in it. Good starter book for the Pet grooming.
- This is the definitive book on the "business side" of grooming. Why another reviewer here would say to refer to Notes From The Grooming Table doesn't make sense. It's a great book on the "how to groom side" of grooming and is not a book on the business side of grooming at all. From Problems to Profits for the business side of grooming and Notes for the styling side of grooming and you have the best of the best today.
- I was recommended this book by grooming board but I found it totally useless for the mobile groomer or house call groomer. The book called "Notes from the Grooming Table" is a much better investment for the groomer in general.

5 comments about Street Dogs.
- I treasure this book. It is beautiful and heartbreaking. Traer Scott courageously sticks her neck out to bring us haunting images and stories. Both this book and her book Shelter Dogs are money well spent.
- Street Dogs was an extremly touching book of photos of so many forgotten, hungry, yet vibrant puppies and dogs.
It is so sad to see these beautiful creatures struggling to survive.
Traer Scott has a real talent for capturing the heart and sole of one of these beautiful dogs just through their eyes. As in Shelter Dogs I found myself with a lump in my throat throughout the book.
A smart buy for anyone who claims to be or is a dog-lover.
- This book gives us an idea of how street dogs in Puerto Rico and Mexico live. Scott's unique perspective is amazing and sad all at the same time. Best thing about this book is that a portion of the proceeds is donated to the ASPCA; worth buying it just for that! Buy this book along with her book Shelter Dogs and be prepared to get teary eyed! Thank you.
- Like her previous book "Shelter Dogs", "Street Dogs" captures a whole range of dog emotions. She is a very talented photographer and apparently is not afraid to go the extra mile to get the photograph she wants.
- My sister is a "rescue" enthusiasts. This book was perfect for her. The photos were amazing. Keep up the good work.

5 comments about Whippets (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals).
- This book provides in depth knowledge concerning all aspects of whippets: their history, temperment, housing, training techniques, etc. I strongly recommend it as the proud owner of a whippet puppy. The information provided has worked wonders in learing about the whippet breed and managing our little guy.
- I have found this book to be an excellent source for Whippet enthusiasts. It is quite comprehensive, has some stunning photography, and deals with pretty much every facet of owning one of these wonderful animals. It gave me a great deal of insight into Whippets in general. Highly recommend it!
- i love this book. by reading it, i chose to get a whippet as my next dog. i already have a golden retriever, but she's really my mom's dog and i wanted one of my own to take to new york city when i go to college. as luck would have it, my cousin, raymond, who is one of the top whippet breeders in the country, called me and told me he had two little puppies who needed homes. my mom, my brother, my brother's friend, and i all went to his house one weekend and came home with an eight week old puppy. i named him elton, and he's sitting in my lap right now as a twelve week old adolescent. thank you so much, to the wonderful authors, for helping me choose my next breed of dog!
- While the book is fairly concise, it is a very thorough handbook for owning a Whippet. I have referenced it many times in the few months since owning a Whippet puppy and each time it has something valuable to say. I highly suggest owning this book.
- Great book - comprehensive guide for whippet owners. Useful information for those primarily interested as a pet owner rather than those looking for specialised advice on breeding, showing etc. Highly recommended. Should be mandatory reading for all prospective/new whippet owners. The information is detailed yet highly readable. The writing is of an excellent standard making it a pleasure to read.

3 comments about Best Hikes With Dogs: Bay Area & Beyond (Best Hikes With Dogs).
- Contains an amazing number of trails you can take your dog to, even unleashed in probably the most dog unfriendly state in the country (California). Since most parks and trails in northern California prohibit dogs even on leash, this book will save you a lot of research. The main weakness is the lack of trails in the South Bay. Of course, since this is the most dog phobic part of California, it's not surprising that there is not much for dogs here.
- I have yet to have a hike from this book go smoothly. I live in the north bay and all of the directions to the hiking destinations are only if you are coming from the south. Often times the exit they give is only accessable if you are coming from the south. I drove out to one of the hikes and there were signs everywhere saying no dogs allowed. Also the trail directions are very vague and sometimes inaccurate. I have wasted a lot of gas and even more time with the inaccurate driving and trail directions. Basically this book was a waste of money for me.
- I love hiking with my dogs off-leash. This book has been a great resource for me. I just moved to California and don't know the area all that well. This book is full of great hikes in the bay area and northern california. The table at the beginning of the book is especially helpful as it lists all the hikes and makes note of their length, difficulty, off-leash status, and accessibilty to water. I almost hate to write this review as increased foot and paw traffic on these trails increases the abuse potential. Only people with well-trained, friendly dogs should attempt off-leash hikes. If your dog is not friendly or well behaved, it's best to stick to the many, many leash-required hiking trails.

- This is a great doggie cook book. I live in Charlotte, NC and Barbara Burg owns and runs the K-9 Cafe in Charlotte's historic Southend.

This is the best and most yummy cook book, the doggie daiquiris yummy and human friendly as well. I have purchased this book and make yummy treats for my pups all the time. I have also given to my friends who love the doggie carrot cake. I recommend it highly to anyone who loves to bake and loves their dog.

5 comments about The Rhodesian Ridgeback: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- The Rhodesian Ridgeback is an extremely intelligent canine full of fun, love, and stubburness. They live to love and be loved back and in return they will be your best friend, and family protector. An excellent family dog as they are very good with children. It takes a special person to raise a Ridgeback as they are very headstrong at times and are not for everyone. The author of this book covers everything you will need to know before you decide if a Ridgeback is for you.
- not really what I expected from the book. I could have used a few more prior reviews to let me know that I was actually looking for a book with more information on raising puppies and nuances inherit to this breed of dog. Good book for a true overall picture of the breed, but to much other non-essential information tossed in
- I enjoyed this book to learn the history and concerns of RR's. It is a very good introductory book. The author is professional about the breed. I recommend this book to anyone considering a RR or just getting one.
- I thought the first 6 chapters of the book were good, the first few great. However as you progress through the book the knowledge it presents is geared towards all dogs, to a point where I don't think that a RR was mentioned in the final few chapters, it was general knowledge about dogs.
- I have owned one Ridgeback who passed away a year and a half ago, and now currently own my 2nd. I have several other books about the breed and really enjoyed Eileen's book the best. It does repeat some of the info I have in other books, such as the history of the breed and breed standard, but lets face it any book on the breed MUST contain those topics. But in some of my other Ridgeback books they seem to either cover a lot of info that is geared towards dogs in general or they tended to cover a lot of information on show dogs throughout the world. But in this book I found the topics to be more unique to our breed & very informative and entertaining. The author goes into details of her own experiences with some of the topics, like sighting examples of her dogs' sense of humor, how they have amused themselves when left alone, how she has trained her dogs for obedience competition etc. etc. AND that is just in the third chapter of the book! The endless pictures she includes in her book are beautiful as well. I just loved this book!

2 comments about The Well-Mannered Dog: From Dealing with Cats to Staying in Hotels, a Total Guide to Good Manners.
- Great tips but my dog has a mind of his own. I wish he could read the book and do the things.
- This book is easy to understand and covers basic dog training and tackling specific problems. The authors like the "reward with a treat" approach but they don't rule out gentle corrections. They do warn against harsh corrections, explaining why punishment can make your dog fearful.

5 comments about The All Breed Dog Grooming Guide.
- I think this book was useful and easy to read.
The format makes it easy to check while the book is open.
I liked the step-by step descriptions and the setup - which is very well arranged. There are drawings on each breed mentioned, some drawings better than others - but still the drawings are nice and very useful. In the more demanding breeds there is drawings on several details and sometimes several angles, this was very helpful in understanding the text.
I also liked the introduction part where equipment and techniques are described. You should read this part carefully before you start reading about the different breeds, especially if you are a beginner like me.
I would prefer an even more detailed description on some more popular breeds as flatcoated retriever, bernese mountaindog and other breeds with similar groomingdescriptions in the book on usual "small stuff" - shortening and trimming of ears and tail etc. I would also have preferred that stripping procedures could be mentioned - in addition to clipping - with regards to the terrier breeds. The book does mention though that it describes "pet grooming", and thus should not expect to give a perfect show result.
What this book lacks in respect to pet grooming is that there is only one style described for every breed. For many pets it may be more attractive to owners who do not want to use much time grooming their dog to cut the dog in an alternate style - but for this you can use your imagination or another book, and the drawings of each breed are helpful when discussing how the owner wants his or her dog groomed.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to start as a groomer, pet or show, or if you are interested and want to groom your own dogs and maybe help some friends with grooming.
- This book was purchased for a grooming class I took. It provided a wealth of information and will be a great information tool in the future. Great content!
- This is an ok book for new people, but it has several safty issues, and doesn't have the show cuts for many dogs, poodles. It also has the wrong cuts from some of the dogs. There are better books out there.
- this book has every breed that you'd ever come across at work. BUT... We don't like the short grooming discriptions and especially the pictures/illustrations. Don't get me wrong, Lynn Miller is a great artist. Our fellow employees have agreed that we'd much rather see a photogragh or better yet, a before and after photo of some more difficult breeds.
- This book is supposedly a reference for professional dog groomers. As one, I find it disappointing. The illustration quality is variable, and on one particular clip (the miniature schnauzer, I believe) there is a serious error in the clipping guidelines. Not enough angles of the dog pictures are shown for you to be able to discern the clipping pattern. Also, most dog groomers use modified forms of the show cuts on their customers' dogs. This book fails to describe or even mention these alternative clipping styles, which I think are not only invaluable to dog groomers but to laypersons as well who choose to groom at home.

1 comments about Boarding Kennel Management, 2nd Edition.
- If there ever was a expert on this subject, Mr. Kohl is it. He explains the ins and outs of this business in a very human fashion. The book goes into details that anyone interested in managing a boarding kennel must have. This is indeed a detailed guide for the previously un-enlightened.
