5 comments about PugTherapy: Finding Happiness, One Pug at a Time.
- This is one of my favorite books. I always joke that pugs are better therapy than I could ever provide!! My husband and I are profoundly pug people, and this book exemplifies the natural humor and grace of our curly tailed loved ones! An absolute must have if your favorite therapeutic tool snorts a lot and farts like crazy!!! (smile)
- This is just an adorable gift book with equally adorable pictures of pugs in costume and in their natural condition. Little tidbits of advice are given, but mainly this is just a feel good book with some cute pictures of cute chubby curly tailed pugs.
- This is the most adorable book with lovable pugs. The captions are so cute and fit the charm of the pug.
- I went through a really dark period in my life. After trying everything, even electroshock therapy, I found this book and it changed my life. Thank you, pugs!
- As a wanna-be pug owner, this book is the next best thing! This is the perfect gift for the pug-lovers in your life. The photographs are beautifully done with inspired captions. It's nothing less than page after page of cuteness. If you are a fan of pugs, this is the book for you.

5 comments about Bernese Mountain Dog: An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet.
- All dog owners could use this but for the Berner owner it is great...
- We just purchased a new AKC BMD and we utilize this book often. Good purchase...
- This book is a general guide for all breeds and does have some photos of bernese mountain dogs and it covers all types of health problems, training, and puppy info and other important issues in owning dogs, however it is in general covering all dog breeds and I would recommend "Bernese Mountain Dogs by "Amy Christiansen". However, these are two of the top books that I would give to anyone who has an interest in the Bernese Mountain Dog. I presently own both books.

- I heard this was a great book, and I ordered it May 1st . . . Amazon asked me twice over the next 2 months if I still wanted the book because it was taking so long to ship. The order was finally cancelled in July! I would certainly buy this book if I saw it in a bookstore - Amazon's "usually ships in 12 to 14 days" just didn't hold true for me.
- Great foundational book for someone looking for useful information on living with a Bernese Mountain Dog. Well written, easy to understand and can be a quick reference.
Our kennel gives one of these books to every puppy buyer. Anyone needing more info than this book offers.

4 comments about Natural Healing for Dogs and Cats.
- This is a great book and I love all of Diane Stein's material but this is a lot of the same stuff that Dr. Wendell Belfield was teaching in the late 70's when I first started breeding German Shepherds. It is a well kept secret among breeders all over the world.
I have used the Mega C Plus and the Mega C drops from his company for my breeding dogs and have never had one bit of hip trouble. His link is http://www.belfield.com/about.php to get the best nutritional suppliments possible for your dog and cat!
- (four and a half stars)
Diane draws upon a lot of other people's work, mostly a good thing. Diet, massage, accupressure, accupuncture, herbs, flower essences are presented in a common sense and practical way. She tackles some complex issues with simplicity, though unfortunatly some of the information I find personally to linger a bit, and some which isnt really necessary to include, though I think most books are like this. On the other hand, bold, enlightening and informative statements are present throughout. This book is not just for animals...Dianes experience in other fields shows, it improves oneself too.
This book is infused (mostly) with passion, and kindles a relationship with animals and the earth that I all too often forget and all too many people don't know or understand, which is ashame because it is an absolutely beautiful thing. I feel closer to and more aware of my pet cat and dog, respect them more, and as a result have a much more beneficial and empowering relationship with them.
This book is not overly practical, it needs more recipies and some of the table information like herbs and vitamins needs to be freed from all the text and categorized better. A little information is also a bit unclear, so requires extra research.
I've read a few nasty comments about Diane Stein and her 'feminist' bias. She does not belong to such a category, she is aware of the differences between males and females, and holds a very traditional and timeless, yet unfortunately dying persepctive, which you can investigate in futher detail in the article "REVOLT AGAINST THE FEMINISTS: The Traditional Woman According To Julius Evola by Troy Southgate", which is freely available on the interent. Her personal experience is conveyed very strongly throughout the book, unfortunately she does come across as a bit disdaining towards males. It is up to everyone to accept and understand her, rather than just criticize.
- I love this book. I enjoyed reading it and I use it as an occasional reference. I particularly like the Reiki healing and Flower Essence sections. The section on pet death was very beautiful. Unfortunately, when I tried to share this book with my husband, his masculinity was threatened by the exclusive use of the female pronouns and the references to The Patriarchy. Women are used to reading books with only male pronouns and with insults to women, but many men may be unable to read this book. Also, this book will appeal to the intuitively inclined, rather than to the scientific or literal minded. Diane Stein's book The Natural Remedy Book for Dogs and Cats covers many of the same topics in more detail, and written in a more universal style.
- looking for a book that will tell you what you need to know about anything going on with your pet? A-Z ....This book as well as Dr. Pitcarn's book are two books you must have if you love your pet like a family member!

5 comments about Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- Dont get me wrong, this book is a great read and I certainly recommend it to anyone who buys/owns a RR. The problem with the book is that when it comes to the training area or any specific breed information, the book is very general. This book is best for a new RR dog owner and a must for someone who has not had a puppy before.
- Rhodesian Ridgebacks Manual is pretty much right on with the temperment and traits of this breed. Quick read with helpful tips.
- This is not intended to be a comprehensive, indepth encyclopedia. BUt as a basic primer on Rhodesian Ridgebacks, it covers all of the key highlights and provides a firm foundation for understanding this wonderful breed.
Intelligently written, well-illustrated, well-organized, easy to navigate, with an index and bibliography.
I highly recommend it.
$8. 95 pp., Good binding and glossy paper.
- This book is very beneficial for any one that owns, wants to own,or simply is fancinated by Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They are great dogs, and this book is a great resource for the money.
- I was expecting this book to be more informative. More of a coffee-table book in style of information.

5 comments about The Shih Tzu (Terra Nova Series).
- I'm planning to get one of these precious little dogs next summer, but I've already begun my research by reading books about the breed. I've not read all that I plan to yet, but so far this book is the best I've read. The chapters on grooming, training and behavior were especially relevant and informative for a new shih tzu owner, as these are the topics I feel are of critical importance. I'm sure I will refer to this book again and again in the future. If you can only get one book on the shih tzu, this is the one you should buy!
- I really liked the way this book was written and put together. It did indeeed cover thing specific to Shih Tzus and was not a generic dog book. The DVD was a really nice bonus. I would recommend this book to anyone thinking about buying a Shih Tzu, or people like myself and wife who have had them for over 12 years. We currently have 3, and this book just reignites your passion for these fun little dogs.
Bill
- I found all the necessary information I was seeking in this book.
I will raise my puppy excellent with the support of this book.
- The Shih Tzu (Terra Nova Series) EXCELLENT BOOK WRITTEN BY A PERSON WHO LOVES DOGS AND SHIH TZU's IN PARTICULAR. HAS A LOT OF GOOD AND USEFUL INFORMATION.
- I've decided that it's time for me to rescue a Shih Tzu puppy. I knew nothing, though about doggies, and I had no idea about anything regarding those little beings. I think that this book is a very good one. It's very enlightened and I highly recommended it.

2 comments about A Dog Who's Always Welcome: Assistance and Therapy Dog Trainers Teach You How to Socialize and Train Your Companion Dog.
- I only found two pages devoted to tips for training in this book. The rest of the book just went on and on about how great therapy dogs behave in public, giving examples of their wonderful behavior in various situations. I kept reading, thinking they'd get to the part where they tell you how you too, can have such an admirable dog. But that part never came. Very disappointing book.
- This book is a valuable resource for those seeking the pleasures and rewards of owning a well-behaved dog. Very readable, with lots of useful features, photos, and anecdotes from the author's own extensive experience. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to gain insight into the complex and often misunderstood behaviors of their canine companions.

5 comments about Maran Illustrated Dog Training (Maran Illustrated).
- This is perfect for a new dog owner to learn the basics, or for experienced dog owners to brush up and refining their technique. With simple illustrations and explanations that are easy to understand, this book makes dog training simple and fun. It covers all areas from basic sit, stand, to how to teach it how to not jump on furniture. Plus it has tricks to train your dog.
- Unlike many other training books, this book gets to the point. I hate some of the others that waste fifty pages on the philosophy of dog training. The various sections are color coded and easy to navigate. This is nice when you need to refer back to a page while working with your dog.
The illustrations are by far the best i've seen. Each step is shown clearly with real people and dogs to demonstrate how to do things.
My favorite thing this book covers is that it gives extra help and tips on what to do if your dog isn't learning something. For example, your puppy is having trouble staying in the down position. Alternative methods are given or you are directed to master a previous command first before moving on.
- This is a general dog training book. I guess the people that wrote this just read some books and rewrote their book from that. This is not a #1 dog training book...at least that is my opinion.
- As a certified pet dog trainer (CPDT), I'm always looking for better dog training books for pet owners. Unfortunately, most are cheaply produced and lack appealing, clear layout, much less beautiful, detailed photographs. These logically progressed serial photos that show movement are brilliant -- they show at a glance what takes too many words to say. Of course, the photos wouldn't matter if they got the science of animal training wrong, a.k.a. learning theory. But they got it all right! This is a gem, a one-of-a-kind resource in dog training publications today. It's now the first book I recommend and give as gifts to clients, friends and family.
- This book is easy to read and provides great instruction for various points in training a new puppy. My only "beef" with the book is that, like the DK books, it puts information in pictorial form and in paragraph form in each section, but unlike DK, the information provided is identical in the two areas. For me, I may start out reading the pictorial description, but if I've then decided to read more in the paragraph portion, I'm looking for more indepth info or to read something different. It isn't helpful to have the same exact words written two times on each page. I actually preferred the "Keep it Simple Series"--puppy training book from DK that I purchased (unfortunately loaned out and not returned) when we got our other dog 4 years ago.

5 comments about Rex and the City: A Memoir of a Woman, a Man, and a Dysfunctional Dog.
- This book is great!!!!!!!! If you love dogs you must read this book. Wonderfully written.
- This book is great. I read it in just a couple of days, I could barely put it down. I carried it with me everywhere I went and would sneak in a few pages every chance I got.
If you love dogs, New York City or just want a few good laughs, this book is for you. The love and humor that Rex brings into Lee and Ted's lives is heartwarming. As an owner of two rescue dogs living in a major city, I can relate to a lot of their experiences.
Rex reall showed Lee and Ted how to give and receive love.
- I cannot recommend this book enough! From the first page, I was immediately involved with these great characters. The book is non-stop laughs and sprinkled with endearing, heart-warming moments. I truly couldn't put it down! I was eager to see what would come to Rex and his "parents." It is simply wonderful!!!
- OMG this was hilarious! but also tender and loving and wise and true. This woman is a terrific prose writer, and I would definately read other books by her. This is the story about rescuing an abused dog and bringing him into a teensy apartment in a bad neighborhood in New York City! who would have thought such a tough beginning (for the dog) would have such a happy ending. bravo! viva rex!
- I had read excerpts of this in Bark magazine (yes I'm one of those dog nerds) and was charmed then, and after reading the entire book, remain so. The things I think I like best are, 1) its a really accurate depiction of the trials and tribulations of getting a shelter dog and that transition, 2)as well as how complicated dog ownership can be in an urban area. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not heavy or serious, but it struck a chord in me- someone who has experienced both of those situations. It's not all sunshine and roses the first day, and no one warns you about that. But that is also where some good comedy comes from. I enjoyed this book very much and would definitely recommend it.

5 comments about Chinese Crested: A Comprehensive Guide to Owning and Caring for Your Dog (Kennel Club Dog Breed).
- Having a 5 month old Crested puppy, I purchased this book to find out more about the breed, and I did. Yes, you can surf the web and get info, but in this book, the information is all together in one spot. The book is well organized and gives general information on almost every topic. What I liked about this book over other books is the fact that the book gives the differences between the hairless and the powderpuff, which is what my puppy is. For every new Crested owner, this is a great reference book.
- I have come across millions of crested books, and this is by far my favorite. it is extremely informative, and very detailed. the pictures are great. it covers everything you would need to know, right down to alot of diseases, illness's, flea treatment, things not just associated with the breed. the history section was FABULOUS!
great pictures, great book, worth every penny.
- Very beautiful book with very beautiful photographs of the heaps of explanations for the care and grooming and in more it is not published in French , very invaluable.
- Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Excellent detail oriented breed book for Chinese Cresteds. Lots of wonderful background information on where the breed originated. This is a must have for anyone considering or even who owns a Chinese Crested. One of the much better written breed books.
- I purchased a hairless Chinese Crested. First, I read this book. The 8 week old pup I had flown to me developed coccidia (stress of weaning, leaving mom, travel, new home, new owners) after two days, which then led to hypoglycemia (stopped eating and blood sugar crashed) and died within one week. This book doesn't stress the fact that "toy" puppies can easily have this problem and what to do at the early signs to save its life. Unfortunately, my Vet didn't know what to do either. I learned from surfing the web, after the problem. That would be your best bet to learn about this breed, including possible problems that the book does not cover.

5 comments about Great Pyrenees (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- Informative and had wonderful pictures to go along with info. Would recommend for sure! Better than some out there.
- If you own a Pyr or are considering one, you need this book. It provides the history, standards and what to expect when you own this breed. I love my Pyr, but it is not the pet for everyone. This book will help you decide if it is right for you. If you already own one, it is very interesting and has some nice pictures of these beautiful dogs.
- I love this book. After adopting 2 baby Great Pyreness puppies, this book helped me understand them in a way I would have never known. They are beautiful dogs that have lots of love for there owners, however they like to have a lot of land to roam, and have a big barking issue. This book taught why they bark so much, it is because they are WATCH dogs, and they feel the need to bark in order to protect there heard/Owners. Great book!
- I bought two books when we adopted our Pyr from a rescue clinic. We knew a little about the breed traits, that were reaffirmed in this book. Great pictures and easy to read. You will be glad you got this instruction booklet.
- this was a great read, it had a few differences in what I'd read elsewhere about pyrs, but was still very informative and had good pictures, as well as an extensive section about illnesses your pyr can get.
