5 comments about The Doggy Bone Cookbook, Second Edition.
- I bought the 1st edition of this book several years ago and it is a great little book. The recipes are easy and the ingredients are readily available. You can even customize the recipes; try adding a little cooked bone marrow or ground up bits of cooked meat (you know the stuff that you don't eat, like gristle) grind it up in a food processor and add it to the dough. Just remember to store the biscuits in the fridge (short term) or the freezer.
The only problem with this book is that when I don't have time to make homemade dog biscuits and I buy store bought-my dogs spit them out! Even the gourmet kind! They'll just spit them out and start trying to "shake" and if that doesn't work they'll try "down" and then "down & shake" at the same time. They think that if they do enough tricks I'll fork over the homemade cookies! And when they realize that there are no homemade cookies in the house, they'll pick up their "crummy" store bought cookie and take it to their bed and pout!
So, remember to always keep some in the freezer, or else things could get ugly!
- There are only a few recipes in this book but they are simple and the dogs seem to like them well enough.
- This is such a great, fun cookbook! I bought this book before Christmas to make some treats for family and friend's pets, and all the ones I had leftover I ended up feeding to my two dogs! I must say the downsides were some of the recipes made the dough flimsy and hard to work with, and it was extremely difficult keeping my dogs out of the kitchen. With recipes like the peanut butter one, I found out the more you add to the mixture, the more it stays together. I'm not saying go overboard, but a spoonful here and there won't hurt. Wheat flour is hard to work with, so if I added more ingredients it actually worked out better. I love this book! My neighbors have been begging me to borrow it!
- I purchased this book to start my doggy bag barkery business and the biscuits really sell. I recommend this book for anyone starting out in the business. Be careful with the Minty Bones because they mold quickly.
- very good book though not many recipes (I think about 10) but very simple ingredients and easy to follow instructions. My copy also came with a bone shaped cookie cutter! very good though short and card pages so robust enough for kids etc... my dog loves the peanut biscuits

1 comments about The Toy & Miniature Poodle (Terra-Nova).
- Along with my newly adopted mini poodle, I purchased three books on the breed. This one is by far my favorite for several reasons.
Number one, it was obviously written by a person intimately familiar with the poodle breed. Though it did cover some basics that would be great for any dog owner to keep in mind (such as potty and behavior training and a basic vet overview), it also delved into specific poodle concerns that I - as a new poodle owner - had never known. My concerns about grooming, feeding, special health concerns and training were all covered.
Another thing I loved about this book was its readability. I never felt overwhelmed or bored reading this, and I really felt prepared to take on the ownership of a breed of dog I'd never had prior experience with.
As an added bonus, it came with a neat training dvd that showed some basic training techniques in live action.
Probably my absolute favorite part about this book is that it covers how to ADOPT a poodle. I met my little buddy at the humane society, and most people are shocked to hear that when I tell them (he looks like he could be a show dog). You really can find a pure bred best friend at the pound. But don't let them overshadow all those adorable mixed breeds!!

4 comments about Getting a Grip on Aggression Cases: Practical Considerations for Dog Trainers.
- This book is full of every detail a new trainer needs to know if they are considering working with aggression cases. Actually, "old" trainers could benefit from it as well, as the book covers so many aspects of this subject. Ms. Wolfe discusses, among many, many other things: how to be sure you are ready for varying types of aggression; examples of client questionnaires; what to bring to such a session; what to wear to such a session (and why); definitions of canine behavior; what to discuss with the client to be sure they understand; what to do if you get bitten during a session; and so much more......And at the end of the book is a list of Resources available for even further knowledge. I recommend this book highly.
- I work in canine behaviour and specialize in Dog Aggression cases, i always find that i am learning new things from day to day. I found this book extremely useful and informitive with some very common sense advice for anyone who works with dogs already, this is a must read. It becomes very obvious that Nicole has 'been there' so to speak and the reader will identify with some of the scenarios she describes. This deserves a five star rating.

- Nicole Wilde's new book on aggression is a "must-read" not only for dog trainers who are considering taking on aggression cases, or currently do work with them, but also for trainers who work with other behavior cases. The questionnaires and advice in the book on taking a history are invaluable and any trainer, new or experienced, can gain some valuable tips and advice on working one on one with dog owners. This book covers all aspects of working with aggression cases from start to finish, with everything from what to do before, during and after a session to "what if" scenarios such as getting bitten, dealing with euthanasia, etc. I highly recommend this book!
- This is a compassionate, poignant and clear presentation of a subject too often misunderstood. Readers will have a hard time putting this book down because of Nicole's unique ability to make difficult concepts clear and "heavy" material light, via her wonderful sense of humor and sometimes quirky, fun delivery. Although written with professional dog trainers in mind, this book and its wealth of material directly addresses the complexities of aggression. It will help anyone who opens the cover grasp and understand these concepts and as a result, all dogs will benefit. Great job.

5 comments about The Shih Tzu (Terra Nova Series).
- I really liked the way this book was written and put together. It did indeeed cover thing specific to Shih Tzus and was not a generic dog book. The DVD was a really nice bonus. I would recommend this book to anyone thinking about buying a Shih Tzu, or people like myself and wife who have had them for over 12 years. We currently have 3, and this book just reignites your passion for these fun little dogs.

- I found all the necessary information I was seeking in this book.
I will raise my puppy excellent with the support of this book.
- The Shih Tzu (Terra Nova Series) EXCELLENT BOOK WRITTEN BY A PERSON WHO LOVES DOGS AND SHIH TZU's IN PARTICULAR. HAS A LOT OF GOOD AND USEFUL INFORMATION.
- I've decided that it's time for me to rescue a Shih Tzu puppy. I knew nothing, though about doggies, and I had no idea about anything regarding those little beings. I think that this book is a very good one. It's very enlightened and I highly recommended it.
- I bought this book over Shih Tzu for dummies because this book has color pictures and is a little lighter reading than the dummies book. I had a hard time concentrating on the black and white/no picture dummies book

5 comments about Living with Kids and Dogs...Without Losing Your Mind.
- I would highly recommend this book. It is well written, funny and very helpful. The book was recommended to us at a time when we were concerned about one of our dogs and the principles outlined in the book were extremely helpful. A great resource!!
- This book was very helpful. It is an easy read and lots of little tips.My kids are older, 13,17 and 20, but I still picked up some good information. There are even some fun and easy tricks to teach your dog. I would recommend this to anyone with kids of any age.
- This is one of the very best resources I've found for families with children and dogs. It has lots of practical kid-friendly and dog-friendly tips and ideas. I've recently read hundreds of books on similar topics while researching a book I'm writing, and this one really stood out. As a child/family psychologist, I was impressed with how solid it was, and as a therapy dog trainer, I thought the advice about dogs was spot-on! It deserves all the stars that everyone has given it!!
- Colleen writes in a reader friendly manner. Her life experiences as Mom and dog trainer have brought together this wonderful resourceful book families can turn to time and time again! I recommend this book to all families I work with as it describes practical and positive solutions for challenging and hectic lives! :)
- There are certainly other kids and dogs books out there but, this one is so far the best I've found. Colleen Pelar gives great, practical tips for parents of children at all ages that can be put to use immediately. I don't have children but, am active in rescue and am always looking for more training to help adopters and I learned so much. This book will be required reading for all adopters with children going forward. GREAT read!!!

5 comments about Rhodesian Ridgebacks (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- Dont get me wrong, this book is a great read and I certainly recommend it to anyone who buys/owns a RR. The problem with the book is that when it comes to the training area or any specific breed information, the book is very general. This book is best for a new RR dog owner and a must for someone who has not had a puppy before.
- Rhodesian Ridgebacks Manual is pretty much right on with the temperment and traits of this breed. Quick read with helpful tips.
- This is not intended to be a comprehensive, indepth encyclopedia. BUt as a basic primer on Rhodesian Ridgebacks, it covers all of the key highlights and provides a firm foundation for understanding this wonderful breed.
Intelligently written, well-illustrated, well-organized, easy to navigate, with an index and bibliography.
I highly recommend it.
$8. 95 pp., Good binding and glossy paper.
- This book is very beneficial for any one that owns, wants to own,or simply is fancinated by Rhodesian Ridgebacks. They are great dogs, and this book is a great resource for the money.
- I was expecting this book to be more informative. More of a coffee-table book in style of information.

5 comments about Siberian Huskies for Dummies.
- I purchased this book along with another Husky training book and while I haven't finished this one, I will say that it is a nice compliment to the other book and goes a little more in depth on certain subjects. Overall, I am not sorry I purchased this book or the other one. This book has a great section about the breed standards and history of the breed as well as a lot of helpful information about training and dealing with other animals in the household.
- I bought four other books on huskies (or so they claimed to be on huskies). The information in those books was general info that could be applied to any breed. This book is specific to only the siberian breed. Of course its going to have info that can be applied to other breeds, as does any book about dogs-but I found this book to be the most helpful in explaining why my dog acts the way she acts and what it means. I was hoping for a lil more in depth explanation on why my dog hates baths but that may just be my dog who hates baths and not the breed. Also-it lacked in depth details or tips on how to train stubborn huskies since huskies get bored easily with repetitive training. Overall, I would def recommend this book to any husky owner.
- Waste of money, The author doesn't even have a husky. How can a person who doen't own a husky can write a book about Husky. Most of the article is a cut and paste version on how to know and understand your dog in general.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK. IT IS REALLY FOR DUMMIES....
- I think this is a good book. It covers medical but, only to an extent. The author make a comment about how it's ok to buy from the mall. Those pups come from puppy mills. They may not be in good health and may never had thier vaccinations. Another chapter of the book was dogsledding, gave an over view but, no tips or refrences to help you get started.
This book in my opinion is a ok starter book but, I WOULD NOT refrence it a must have.
- I love this book, I keep it in my bag and read it on my way to and from work. I find myself going back to it all the time and using it as a reference. With a Husky you can never know what they are doing next. This book helps keep a eye open on what they are thinking or plan on doing.
GREAT USER GUIDE.

5 comments about The Only Dog Training Book You Will Ever Need: From Avoiding Accidents to Banishing Barking, the Basics for Raising a Well-Behaved Dog.
- I was disappointed in this book. The book was mainly about clicker training which is not a method I use in training my dogs. Some of the information in the book was useful but there are other dog training books that I like better.
- Unfortunately, the book does NOT live up to its title. In fact, I bought three other books, and plan on putting this book in the 25 cent bin at my next yard sale. This trainer's idea of training is to use "Clicker Training" I don't know about you, but I don't carry a clicker around with me 24/7 and my dog's response to the clicker was to walk away from the irritating noise it makes. This book is not helpful in anyway. The book is no fun to read, it makes playing with your dog into work, the author has hard and fast RULES about dogs shouldn't be allowed on couches, beds etc... Too regimented, too harsh, and not for dog "lovers". My two pugs are part of the family, and our family enjoys cuddling with the pugs on the furniture and the beds. Better books I bought were, Dog Tricks for Dummies, Idiots Guide to dog training, the everything dog training book, etc. "The Only Dog Training Book You will ever need" Needs to be retitiled "A not Fun, unenjoyable way to annoy youself and your dog". Sorry, just don't waste your time. Dogs are to be loved and enjoyed. Not turned into soldiers that respond to a CLICK.
- The book was quite helpful with thorough explanations and insights into the developmental stages of the dog. In addition, the book provided reasons why people and pets act/react to situations. Bravo!
- We have used this book over and over to fix behavioral problems that have cropped up over the years. From jumping on visitor, to digging up the sprinklers, to jealousy over a new dog or cat. The solutions offered are simple, effective, and easily integrated into our lives.
- I bought this book to teach our newly-adopted adult dog, Toby, how to behave. I was disappointed as it seems that this book (along with the majority of others) focuses mostly on how to teach puppies, not adult dogs.
I think it would have been very effective had I been the intended reader.

5 comments about Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals).
- This book has lots of helpful information for Cavaliers specifically and dogs in general. It's a nice length -- not too short or long, has wonderful pictures, and is very easy to read.
I think every first time Cavalier owner should read it before their dog comes home.
- I love this book you will not need to buy another. Its a must have full of info. Love it!!!
- I found that this book was very correct in most everything it said. Being a breeder myself I am always looking for a good book to send home with my new puppy owner's. I have found it in this book. Every puppy gets this book in their care package and their owner's just love it. The lineage chart is absolutely wonderful. This book has so much information in it that most books do not. All in all this in an excellent book. I give it five stars, more if I could.
Sandy Townsend, Breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Kansas
- I have been searching for a Cavalier Club in the Dallas area and was unable to find one. I'd like to start a club for All the Cavi owners in Dallas. If interested in joining email me at madihabeg@gmail.com. If you know of an existing club in this area, I would appreciate contact info.
And this is a great book for new owners.
- Please note that this may have been a great book when it was written in 1999, but how any review in 2005 can recommend this book with four stars is beyond me. A very serious genetic disorder in Cavaliers has become TOO common and is found in all bloodlines. This disease, which did not become widely identified in Cavaliers until 2003, should be thoroughly researched by anyone interested in acquiring a Cavalier. It is not in this book. Go into this with your eyes wide open. We love our Cavalier and would not trade him for anything. But he has had major brain surgery at a prestigious university vet hospital, pre- and post-surgical MRI's, and is on expensive medication 3 times daily. He cannot be walked on a leash because of pain, even with the medication. If you want "cutesy" information, buy a book. If you want real information, go on-line.
Added from Cavalier Health on 9/13/2006: "Researchers conservatively estimate that at least 50% of CKCSs have occipital hypoplasia (or caudal occipital malformation syndrome -- COMS), the skull bone malformation believed to cause syringomyelia."
