2 comments about How to be a Dog Psychic: Learn to Communicate with Your Pet.
- Yes, Danika's book talks about meditation and communicating telepathically with your dog. But it's also about dog psychology and how your dog needs and wants you to be the "pack leader".
She weaves in lots of personal accounts about animals she's known or done work with as an animal communicator. I was fascinated by the stories of how she was able to find out that her female cat was being terrorized by the male cats in the household (brothers!) and how she was able to solve the problem. (Removing the cover from the litter box kept the boys from sneaking up on the poor girl).
There are stories about finding out that a dog was in the early stages of cancer before any exterior symptoms were being shown and another of finding out that a dog was really tired of being sick and tired and was ready to "go". She also weaves in recommendations for other books and websites such as the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen.
Essentially, this book is about strengthening your bond with your pet and who doesn't want that?
- I'm the proud owner of 2 Bichons. I thought this book would help me understand how the dogs think and provide tips for better communication with my pets. I only read the first few chapters. I was instructed to meditate and take on an animal spiritual guide. It informed me that I could pass messages to my dogs just by thinking. I know dogs pick up on our emotions, energy levels, and body language. I also realize that spoken word in any language is not the dog's natural form of communication, but this book was talking about speaking a language that neither my dogs nor I could understand! Unless you are one with nature, stay away from this book!

4 comments about Doggie Biscuit!.
- Darrel Bain is at it again. This time we have the pleasure of learning all about the comedic antics of Biscuit, his pet dachshund. Or as Bain describes him, "six inches high, six feet long, has ears that drag the ground and likes to lick faces."
I'm sure the description is pretty close, because fans of Darrell Bain know full well he isn't given to hyperbole. And if you believe that, you'll probably believe that this man who truly resides at Santa Claus Lane hates ice cream.
Bain weaves tale after tail of the trials and adventures of raising a puppy on a tree farm in the wilds of Texas. He seemingly writes with a wink and a perpetual gleam in this eye, which is why the stories are fun to read. I wonder if Bain develops a Pinocchio nose whenever he starts putting his ideas down on paper.
But why shouldn't the reader believe Biscuit created his own vocabulary, can honk a truck horn, or had a wild run-in with Viagra? Fact or fiction? I'll leave that for you to decide.
The reader will come to love and laugh at a little dog he or she will never meet. In the process however, Bain reminds us that life isn't all rosy, and can bite you when you least expect it. The harsh realities of life play a minor role in this entertaining little book, and leave an impression that lasts a tad longer than the light-hearted theme. But whoever said life would be all ice cream and doggie biscuits?
- This book gave us more then we ever thought. The author brings true to life the real colors of having a doxie in your world. I originally got this book for myself to read. I ended up reading aloud virtually the entire story to my husband. Whether you have a doxie, much less a dog in your world, the story of Biscuit is hilarious, and to ones amazement daily life with a "wiener dog".
Even more wonderful is I have since read this book to our 3 nephews who laughed so hard THEY even had tears coming down. This book comes soo highly suggested, it would be a shame to go through life and to never have heard the story of "Doggie Biscuit"
Thank you Darrell Bain
- Biscuit is a little dachshund that exemplifies what we all love best about our canine companions. Doggie Biscuit follows this charming canine character throughout his entire life story. Writing with a tongue-in-cheek style humor, author Darrell Bain lays out a remarkable story of love and adventure (Biscuit may be the only dog in the world to have received a traffic ticket!) that will completely engage the reader's full and rapt attention from first page to last. Indeed, it would not be unexpected for readers with canine companions of their own to see in Biscuit some of those special times and qualities that is to be found in their own dog's behavior. Not to be missed is a very special section of Doggie Biscuits that deals with Biscuit's extensive vocabulary and is complete with his ability to communicate through, and respond to, an amazing list of words, phrases and gestures. A pure joy and entertainment, Dogie Biscuit is also a story that is thoughtful and universal in its appeal. Highly recommended reading!
- Doggie Biscuit is a really cute book, and I'm not even all that fond of dogs! In Doggie Biscuit, Darrell Bain tells the absolutely delightful story of Biscuit, a Dachshund. Truly, Biscuit is a member of the family. You'll be crying from laughing so hard at some of the antics of Biscuit, but sadly, you'll be crying tears of sadness at the end of the book, too.
Doggie Biscuit would be a great book for anyone who loves animals, especially dogs.

- Was disappointed in content. I'd been anticipating more "meat". In hindsight, would not spend my money here again.

- William Thomas captures the true nature of the Dog/Man relationship. Most espically that relationship between a Border Collie and his human. These animals give unrestricted love and only ask that they be allowed to do anything they please.
And that comes across in this very funny book, it on many occasion made me laugh out loud; and I am sure many of the other guests in my hotel must of thought me insane. But there is a warning, if like me you used to own a Border Collie (mine died at the age of 16 from a stroke) and have managed to keep the age old promise of the pet owner of never again, then at the end of the book (or even during) you may well be reduced to tears as you reminded of the antics of own beloved and now departed best friend.

1 comments about Everything Dog Health Book: A Complete Guide To Keeping Your Best Friend Healthy From Head To Tail (Everything: Pets).
- A large but lightweight volume covering many topics. Information is easy to find through a good cross-referenced index and well-grouped Table of Contents. The information is concise, easy to read and understand. However, I don't think this book is meant to replace your veterinarian.

3 comments about Tao of Puppies: How to Raise a Good Dog Without Really Trying.
- Since becoming a dog owner for the first time this year, I have read and purchased many puppy books. This by far has been one of my favorites and the one that I refer to the most. I love Krista's positive approach and peaceful ideas for living with your canine friend even through the rough and sometimes exasperating puppy mos. She gives many suggestions as well as understanding as to why a puppy sometimes acts the way it does and how to use your best skills to provide a positive environment for your dog.
I would highly recommend this to any new dog owner.
- Cantrell covers all the basics of training your puppy, but so do several hundred other dog training books. So what's different about this book?
What I liked about her approach, specifically, was how she gets the reader to look more deeply at the dog he or she has with the intent to understand who that dog is first. With that understanding, Cantrell leads the reader to learn how to make better connections with the puppy in a way that makes sense to the puppy. Hence, no force is required in this training method because you are not inadvertently pitting yourself against your dog--but rather working with your dog's natural energy and inclination.
Love the silent training section. That alone is worth the price of the book. If your puppy is driving you nuts (and hopefully before your puppy is driving you nuts) read this book.
- Krista's latest book shows you how to choose and integrate a puppy into your and your family's lives using the wisdom of tao. Not only does she explain why your intuition is important but how to tune into it. She shows you step-by-step how to work with your puppy's internal nature - not against it - without any force, pressure or stress.
Some of the training techniques include silent training and games using a puppy's innate nature of exploration. This results in training with "effortless effort." This book contains a wealth of information about puppy wellness such as safety, immunization schedules, diet and even how to teach children to interact with a puppy.
"Understand a puppy's needs, adopt them as your own, lead with loving kindness" explains simply how adopting lessons taught through tao brings peace and joy during what can be a hectic, trying time of puppyhood.
This book is great for those who have raised several puppies to those who are just thinking about bringing a puppy into their lives.

- It's heartwarming to see the special relationship that develops between an animal and their companion. These photos are sensitive and artful. Nice coffee table book.
- This book has great photographs and text highlighting the close bond between guys and their dogs. Each photo is unique and well-done. Laurie Schneider was also my wedding photographer so I'm already an admirer of her work. I hope she gets more opportunities to do fun books such as this.

5 comments about 101 Training Tips for Your Dog: Learn the Experts Way to a Happy Well-behaved Pet.
- WONDERFUL!
This book has the answers for how to peacefully co-exist with your dog(s).
Ms. Delano Condax hits the nail on the head with her practical approach to training your dog(s). I was looking to undo some bad habits and teach new commands as well and this book really covered how to do both. If you have a dog and you need a training book, my money is on this one! You won't be disappointed. My resuce dog has been able to build confidence and learn how to adapt to her new home and routine! THANK YOU!!!!
- the technique works instantly !! My dog used to run wildly all over the house,he was so restless. After using a technique mentioned in this book,my dog doesn't beg for food, doesn't bark and disturb anyone; it's fantastic,I taught him how to 'stay',infact ,he hasn't moved at all since last week....now whats that smell...
- This is the book to read if you want to terrorize your dog rather than train it. Included are the gems of hitting an aggressive dog over the head with a hardback book, hitting it with a stick and scolding a dog upon discovering 'spiteful' behavior such as chewing or eliminating while you are gone.
The author advocates the use of fear to force the behavior she wants. Her methods are beyond antiquated - they are sadistic and cruel. A truly horrible book.
- My initial reaction to this book, was, of course, outrage. I presumed that the author had either never owned a dog, or was a sadist. Then, I realized that the whole thing had to be satire. It must have been weitten just to get a knee jerk response of anger and outrage. But that gives way to humour, and then outright laughter, as you realize that it's all just fiction. After all, no one who knows and loves dogs would EVER treat one that way!
In retrospect, I'm glad that I borrowed the book rather than purchasing it, as it wasn't really all that funny.
- As a professional trainer running a very large training school, I'm disappointed to see that these outdated and abusive methods are still out there. This writer still recommends hitting dogs, pushing their noses into messes, and she even recommends use of a "riding bat", which she says is like a riding crop but "sturdier".
The proliferation of positive methods means that nobody should ever again feel they have no option but to hurt their dog and call it dog training. Please read "Positive Puppy Training Works" by Joel Walton, "The Power of Positive Dog Training" by Pat Miller, and other excellent books by more positive trainers. Dog training has really changed for the better since this dog was published! Becky Schultz, Certified Pet Dog Trainer Golden Valley, MN

- I purchased Purrr: A Cat's Life, the scrapbook for cat owners. I loved it so much, that I bought the dog version! They are both so great, beautifully crafted, and they make scrapbooking flawlessly easy, as well as fun, with professional-looking results!
- If you're like me and you don't have the least bit of talent when it comes to scrapbooking, this is the book for you! It's a read made scapbook, with 3-dimensional pages that really are handcrafted! All one needs to do is drop in their own photographs. My two labs have never looked better than in the pages of Ruff: A Dog's Life
