3 comments about Funny Dogs.
- Dogs can do the craziest things at the most unsuspecting time. Others plan their day accordingly. I have an English Cocker Spaniel who all but leaps through the drive-through window of his favourite do-nut shop, and has been known to devour the bag with those little "bits" still inside! The staff all know him and he takes great delight in flaunting his fame, not to mention basking in all the attention he receives. A dog's life, as portrayed through this book, will bring a fair share of chuckles to your day. It's cute, amusing and sometimes just plain silly..but that's exactly what our little canine friends are, isn't it? Ahh, but to live a pampered dog's life!
- This is a cute book with pictures of dogs doing funny things. Each page has a picture of a different dog. Perfect for a rainy day or if you don't feel like reading, just want to look at pictures. Could be used for many different things, even could be used to give you ideas for stories.
- This is another book review by Wolfie and Kansas, the boonie dogs from Toto, Guam. "Funny Dogs" may be the best photography book we have ever seen. The editor wisely used black-and-white pictures, for easier viewing by species that are somewhat color blind. The photographs themselves are uniformly outstanding.
We have only two minor complaints about this book. First, the title is misleading. While many of the dogs who posed for this book display natural comedic ability, we found some of the pictures to be dignified rather than "funny". The pictures in this latter category would be "funny" only to some noncanine animals of primate derivation, not to a dog. Actually, we found that most of the humans pictured in this volume, including Red Skelton and Alfred Hitchcock, look just as funny as the dogs they are pictured with.
Our other complaint is that this book is too small. Usually we prefer compact volumes that we dogs can easily carry in our mouths. However, the photos in this book are so wonderful that they should have been printed in a coffee table-sized edition.
In conclusion, the humans at Amazon.com should choose this masterwork as a Book of the Day in either the Classic or Undiscovered category. Since they are only human, we are afraid they will probably name this a Wacky Book of the Day, but even that would bring this treasure to the attention of the wider audience it deserves.

3 comments about A Kid's Best Friend (It's a Kid's World).
- What a great book! Beautiful pictures of children and dogs from all around the globe appeal to people of all ages (my 8-month old son as well as myself), and large text appeals to those beginning to read. The message of the book itself is simple and respectful, and doesn't talk about the imminent purchase of a dog (thank goodness!).
- This is a delightful little book full of beautiful pictures of children from all over the world with their dogs. When I sit down to read the book with my daughters (5 and 3 years old) they delight at the colorful pictures.
A Kid's Best Friend is effective on many levels. Convinced that dogs are sentient beings, I especially love that the pictures show a relationship between human and canine. The pictures capture my daughters' attention and are clear illustrations of the symbiotic relationships in which both child and dog benefit. Additionally, many different cultures are represented and each time we read the book, the girls ask about different children and their lives so far away.
This book has quickly become my daughters' favorite bedtime read. They request it by name each night after calling Sadie our sweet shepherd mix up on the bed to cuddle with them.--L.P.Watkins
- Being a dog lover, I thought this was an absolutely wonderful book. The pictures are amazing, and I love the fact that they are of children and their dogs from many different countries. I don't even think I read the words the first two times I looked at the book!! I just looked at all the pictures of the doggies...and loved seeing the children in their different environments. I hope you enjoy this book as much as my Infant Room children and I did!!!:)

4 comments about Homoeopathic Medicine for Dogs: A Handbook for Vets and Pet Owners.
- I bought this book to use as a reference. Some who don't understand homeopathy, find it hard to comprehend that what is used on humans can also be used on our four legged friends. With this I can show that this is what is needed and here is the verification
- We breed dogs in Germany and have relied on this book for years. It has helped many of our dogs. The information is easy to find and comprehensive.
It does help to read a general book on homeopathy first, but it is a great reference when it comes to every day issues.
- Like other books on homeopathy, this book is best used together with a comprehensive materia medica. It's important to keep in mind that the listed remedies are suggestions only and may or may not fit the individual patient's symptom picture. Having said that, this book covers a wider range of ailments than most books on veterinary homeopathy. The introduction to homeopathy section, however, is very brief and there is little information on taking a case and selecting the correct remedy, so this is not the best book for someone new to homeopathy (check out books by Dr. Don Hamilton or Dr. Christopher Day first).
In addition to the guide to canine ailments, there are descriptions of thirteen constitutional types, excerpts from readers' letters, and some interesting essays on veterinary homeopathy including one on homeopathic alternatives to vaccinations.
- I actualy refer to the german original (12th edition) published in Stuttgart in 1998, supposing the english version has the same content.
This book has helped me and my chows overcome quite a few problems when I didn't feel comfortable with the sometimes "radical" solutions offered by my vet. A short introduction to the subject helps the newcomer to orientate himself - the rest is built up according to body regions, making it easy to find what you are looking for. A glossary of substances and a separate section on selected examples end this serious, yet simple reference work. I recommend it !

2 comments about Bedlington Terrier (Comprehensive Owner's Guide).
- I was very pleased with this book, which I gave as a gift to someone who has Bedlingtons. The reaction was very positive and the recipient mentioned that there were numerous helpful and interesting facts that he had not found in other Bedlinton books. The pictures and illustrations were very nicely done.
- Add a few pages for the breed, with other common information about dogs
and you churn out books like this.No real life information about show grooming.

4 comments about Your Dog and Your Baby: A Practical Guide.
- This book looks like a free publication that you would pick up at your vet. It does have very good information but I wouldn't pay over $5 (total) for it.
- Excellent book. We have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks that were the focus of our universe for five years until our son was born. They are well trained but we had no idea how they would react to a new addition. We wanted to respect their feelings and not have any problems because of things we did wrong. This book was really helpful. We took a lot of advice from this book and we have not had any problems. Our son is two and he loves the dogs. The dogs are very tolerant of his antics and seem to love him too. I think dogs and kids can be great friends if their owners facilitate this process.
- This book had the best advice. She really understands the importance of positive interactions between parents, babies and dogs. She gives specific answers to specific problems that are doable. I highly recommend this book. It's an easy read, and packed with useful information. She takes the positive approach to working with your dog and your kids too. It has helped me and our 7 y.o. "baby" poodle, who was the big baby before my son came along. This book was essential in helping to make a smoother transition. I couldn't find even close to the amount of information in this book in other sources. The vet gave us a one-page flyer, and Dr. Sears recommends finding another home for your dog! I use it as a reference, and highly recommend it to every parent with a dog, wether you have a "problem" dog or not, it helps you to know what to do to teach your dog how to handle the big changes and not make mistakes even with the best of intentions (like giving your dog extra attention when the baby isn't around- gives the dog the message that when the baby isn't there, she gets attention, so the baby is a bad thing).
- This is essential reading for all Mums-to-be and new Mums. It prepares the dog owning family for the arrival of the new baby, teaches how to avoid problems when baby does arrive and how to have a happy baby/dog relationship from day one. It teaches how to solve the problems before they happen by preparing your dog for the birth of your baby.
I am a dog behaviour counsellor and I recommend this book very strongly to all pregnant women with a dog in the family. ROWNA WYATT.

2 comments about Homemade Treats for Happy, Healthy Dogs (Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin, a-258).
- We occasionally like to make homemade treats for our dog. However, the recipes in this book were hard to make and the few we tried didn't turn out very well. Our dog did not eat the treats that we made, either, and he has loved treats that we have made from other sources. Luckily, this book was inexpensive since we won't be trying any more of these recipes.
- This book is advertised as good for food allergic dogs. The top allergen for dogs is wheat. The main ingredient in most of the recipes is whole wheat flour. Unfortunately, not helpful to someone with a food allergic dog.

2 comments about English Cocker Spaniel (Comprehensive Owner's Guide) (Comprehensive Owner's Guide).
- This book is so much better than many of the other breed books out there that offer nothing but basic knowledge filler. I was skeptical about buying it, but figured what the heck. It's worth the money and has lots of good information in it.
- This book was a true insight for us into the life of a cocker spaniel, how to train them, live with them, feed them, groom them, walk them and treat them as one of the family. It was invaluable.
