- Although I received my dog two years ago, I enjoyed reading and learning about his breed's history. This book contains not only history and breed specific health concerns but also puppy care and training. A basic dog care book from puppy to senior with wonderful photographs.
- This is a succinct yet comprehensive guide for a current or prospective PBGV owner. Colorful, easy to read, and hitting all the basics, it's an ideal guide for someone trying to get an overview of the breed. Very "reader-friendly".

- A very nice pictorial pointing out the steps and positions for the dog and handler as well as side bars that give common issues you will find when training for each exercise.
If you aren't a deep reader then this book is up your alley. If you are looking for training theory and behavior, pass this one up.
- Great book with easy to follow step by step instructions which show you the fine details of teaching the behaviour

5 comments about KISS Guide to Raising a Puppy (Keep It Simple Series).
- I checked this book out from the library, along with the Complete Idiot's Guide Puppies and The Everything Puppy Book. I found this book to be superior to the other two. Great pictures, lots of information. Makes training a puupy seem very easy. We are using it right now to train out 9 week old puppy, Molly.
- I love this book. It is a very clear and concise overview of owning a new puppy. It covers a lot of information in a very easy format, even good for kids! Fun pictures and visually pleasing. Fun suggestions for activities with your dog too!
- I bought this book after reading its other Amazon reviews. I really like the book, and have found it to be thorough, well-organized, and a simple 'how to', covering a wide variety of areas that are important to puppy growth and well-being. A great starter book! BUT I did not realize that this book would come directly from the UK, hence many of its internal references and language, etc., are British. It's not a big deal, but I would have preferred to buy the 'Americanized' version, and in fact I did see it later in our local stores (and cheaper too, by the way). If I want other books in this KISS series, I'll definitely check our local stores!
- I can't say enough about this book, I have seen many dog books but this one is the best by far because it has everything you could need to know. I expecially lov eth what to do in an emergency section. It saved my dogs life! The training section is great because it has several ways to do things. This is the best book you can get, if you get no other book get this one, for your puppys sake.
- This is an EXCEPTIONAL resource that stacks up to a mountain of other books, videos, and friendly advice from just about everyone.
Before buying this book (on impulse during a pre-adoption "scouting mission" for equipment at a local pet store), I'd already acquired a half-dozen dog books, and as many videos (along with umpteen recordings of dog training shows on Animal Planet). I was not feeling the slightest need for another resource on how to raise our new dog. Until this very thorough work caught my eye. This book is superbly clear, well organized, and visually entertaining. It trumps everything else in my substantial library of resources. (Okay, okay. Yes, I was afraid I'd screw up the little wonder's life -- and mine in the process.) Ms. Palika addresses virtually every conceivable issue clearly and directly. Her well-crafted advice is presented in a very appealing, inviting format that has become the publisher's trademark. The book's Table of Contents and index make quickly accessing vital information fast and easy in this well-structured handbook. Not only will you easily find what you're looking for, you'll get specific, understandable, definitive guidance when you land there. Whether you are about to adopt a puppy, or already brought one into your life, you need competent guidance. If you could only buy one book on raising your puppy -- easily and happily -- into a successful lifetime companion, without question this is the ONE.

5 comments about Doga: Yoga For Dogs.
- If you've ever done yoga and you have a great appreciation for the zen of dogginess, you will enjoy this book. Even if you just like dogs, it should give you a laugh, but you'll probably appreciate it more if you're familiar with the ways of yoga.
It is definitely for people with a sense of humor--if you are looking for the definitive book on yoga positions and expect to teach yourself how to get into the perfect positions, well, go take a class from a human who can make sure you are properly aligned.
This book is fun, relaxing, and may inspire you to do yoga...but the most therapeutic thing about it is the laughter.
- This is a silly book and not worth the paper it is printed on. Not funny enough to be a joke and not real enough to be a useful tool of any sort.
- This was a relatively cute book, but please beware that it is not truly instructional and is not meant to teach one how to facilitate a Doggie Yoga class. This book would make a good gift for the yoga aficionado who also loves dogs and might be entertaining for a few minutes. I would have preferred to see a greater variety of dogs as well. However, I understand the author's vision in spotlighting only four in order to develop character. I would not pay full price for this book.
- Quite witty book of photos of young dogs in poses which look like familar yoga poses. It has imaginary commentary from the dogs.
Dog owners who do yoga will bark with delight.
- Dogs actually do breath correctly, humans don't unless taught. Dogs stretch when they sense the need, humans don't unless taught. Dogs are amazing to watch, there are many things innate to dogs (and most animals), that humans don't do, but probably should.
Breathing - Humans breath shallow inadequate, terse breaths. Why? Because we've forgotten how to breath correctly.
How do we learn to breath correctly? Well, at birth. Once born the baby should be placed on the mother's chest, before the cord is severed and taught to breath. There, feeling the breath come in and out of the mother, feeling the heart beat, the baby learns to breath. Most mothers will have to ensure THEY are breathing correctly to pass this Vital Information onto the babe.
Since dogs breath naturally, pups are brought close to the mother, umbilical chord usually intact and feel the breathing and the heartbeat and become one with the mother.
Okay... think about it. And that's precisely what this book does, it gets one thinking about things, that perhaps we normally wouldn't take the time nor have the inclination to discover.
I enjoyed the read, it was cute, informative and being a dog owner I could relate.

5 comments about Scotch & Toilet Water?: A Book of Dog Cartoons.
- Bought this as a gift. Recommend buying used, condition was totally perfect and with shipping only paid apx 5 bucks.
Book is nice, not as funny as I thought, but guess you need to appreciate that kind of humor.Still nice, just not ROFL.
- Already a New Yorker cartoon fan, I was excited to find this book in my vet's waiting room and had to get a copy for my husband. It's too funny. The facial expressions alone are worth the price.
- ...you'll love this book. Just flippin' hilarious. A great gift, too.
- As xpected, this was (is) great. It has given me LOL & tears.
- Smart, crisp cartoons - many followed by a chuckle or a good belly laugh. My older son and I spent a good part of a rainy afternoon laughing together. As a woman who lives with four dogs, Cullum really hit the spot on many of the witty quips.

5 comments about The Evans Guide for Housetraining Your Dog.
- Checked this book out first from my local library. Was so impressed with the advise in it that I bought it. Clear easy to follow training advise. Also an explanation of WHY dogs do what they do, beginning with the whelping of the pups. The author trained dogs in a monastery for years and has many success stories to back up his methodology... No shortcuts here - just sound advise.
- NOt sure why one reviewer mentions positive and negative reinforcement since Evans clearly states the need for ongoing positive reinforcement. In addition I just shelled out $150 for training which gave almost identifical recommendations regarding how to motivate your dog. I love this book. After 4 days my dog has already gotten the message and we have not yet had an accident today. I'm happy with this purchase! It appears that Evans was the "first", and probably still the best. I wish he was still publishing now!
- If you follow this method, it's flawless. I've recommended this book to no less than 25 people, and no one has said it doesn't work. It's short, to the point, and if you consistantly follow it, you will have a housetrained dog in no time.
- While there are some good tips in this book, I find most of the training methods to be outdated. The conventional wisdom these days is that positive reinforcement, not physical discipline, is the most effective dog training method. I would agree with today's conventional wisdom. There are many more up to date books on the subject of canine house training available today. No need to spend your money on this one.
- Clearest, easiest, most effective house-training book I've seen. I had a lot of trouble house-training my dog: it was my first dog, and a shelter puppy, plus I had a roommate trying to housetrain a dog of his own and we didn't see eye-to-eye on how to do housetraining. Difficult situation: it dragged on for months, with ruined carpets etc. I picked up this book, and I swear resolved the situation very quickly after that. Good stuff.

5 comments about American Pit Bull (Complete Pet Owner's Manual).
- While this book has a lot of information for people who have a puppy, it offers minimal information for someone like me who has just brought home an adult Staffy. The book has a lot of info on how to crate train a puppy, the importance of socialization and other topics that can pertain to adult dogs, but if there was just one paragraph on how to make an adult dog feel comfortable in it's new home, or what I should expect during the first week, I would have given this book 4 stars!
I was also looking for a book that would give me the basics on what type of collar/brush/leash to buy, but when I got to that section, the authors advice was to ask your vet. While the pictures were great, I would quickly trade them for more information!
- as a serious protection dog lover, i bought this book to buffer my growing library of "doggy trivia", and i refer to it every time someone in my neighborhood brings one home. it has been loaned out and returned a few times, and it seems to help those who take the time to read it.
it is light on the eyes (love the pictures, and my dog looks like the white dog on page 16-american bully), and light on the mind, very easy to read! i will credit this book for one very special reason, and that is that it lists legal problems one can expect when having a pit lookalike or the real thing. this book actually lead me to research further into what laws pertain in my area of the world, and it made me realize the benefit of preparing for our move next year. this aspect alone is important for any pit owner. because most insurance companies will not allow groomer or vet stats into their computers (the results would kill their ability to dole out insurance because the pomeranian, chow chow, cocker spaniel, and scottie owners would be ahead of pits for bites), this book is important. it shows that these dogs are sited for media and statistical exploitation. i recommend it for the beginning pit lover. it shows the dogs i see in my friend's homes, the ones that love the kids and are not allowed to be a problem. please buy it if you have a pit, and if you don't buy it anyway. you may learn to discern where the propaganda came from. as the owner of an american bully who resembles a pit, i can attest to the problems we, the good dog owners, face because of owners of dogs who will never own books! i also recommend this book for any boston terrier owner. i have found that these dogs came from the truncated nosed pits of the 1800's. it is a great history of where your companion animal came from. see carl semencic books. go pits!
- If your thinking about getting a American Pit Bull Terrier, this book is perfect to have. It tells you the history of the breeds , how to train them , and what to exspect when you adopt one into your home. I'm a owner of 2 lovable american pitbull terrier puppies.....
- We found this book informative and well written. Most of the information seems directed towards people new to the breed. Helpful description explaining the basic personality of the breed, and some helpful health tips round this book out to be good reading material for people interested in purchasing an American Pit Bull Terrier.
- This book is a "must have" for anyone with a pit or amstaff. It covers all the basic information about the care of the breed. It's written in an easy to read format and contains great pictures. I'll keep this book as a reference.
