5 comments about Another Piece of the Puzzle: Puppy Development.
- very useful and important little book. I had to buy a second copy after giving mine to the vet at the local dog shelter, hoping she would understand why puppies shouldn't be isolated, what and when the fear periods are, and much more important information for a dog's first months, that will change your life and his/her's, all scientifically backed-up. Anyone who owns a puppy or a dog, looking to understand their companion, must this book, which I also loved and enjoyed.
- An outstanding book! Pat Hastings, ably assisted by co-author Erin Ann Rouse, once again shows her astonishing depth of knowledge about dogs gleaned from her years as a dog breeder, professional handler, and dog show judge. A worthy follow-on to her seminars and acclaimed video, The Puppy Puzzle, this book clearly delineates the stages of puppyhood and outlines the interactions that a puppy's human should be providing throughout each stage. I liked this book so much that I bought more to give to every new "parent" for my recent litter of eight puppies.
- We have bought a lot of books regarding puppies and training, and we still got a lot of information out of this book. It's a whole lot of useful information in a short book.
- I have been raising and showing dachshunds for 48 years and am a dog show judge but enjoyed reading and learned a few new tricks so you can teach an old dog and an old lady new tricks. Enjoyed it very much.
- This book is a wonderful guide in "remembering" what it was like to have a puppy, its critical periods, and training so that the puppy has all its effective tools to become confident and a social member of the pack. Good information detailing development and training of puppies!!

5 comments about The Everything Chihuahua Book: A Complete Guide to Raising, Training, And Caring for Your Chihuahua (Everything: Pets).
- This book is great, however it does not mention breeding, coat color genetics or some of the issues that can arise with the reproductive organs (cryptos or pyometera) so falls short of an "Everyting" book, but for the average owner would be great. For the breeder or people that want to get into showing chis additional books will be needed. Still a good book for all owners to have!
- Good Book for the money. Better than the "Chihuahuas for Dummies" book I bought just before.
- Ok, let's start off with the fact that his book is written for people who have a little direction with dogs to begin with. This may be the case for the general population of America, but I'm just pointing it out. I did find a lot of interesting facts pointed out here that were not pointed out in other books - about pack behaviour, food issues, and such generally overlooked information such as costs of a realistic first year ownership. This book gave our family some great guidance before and after we adopted our two dogs.
- This book is absolutely amazing. There is so much information packed into it. I would honestly recommend it to every person who plans on owning a chihuahua, or anyone already owns a chihuahua. I've bought quite a few books on chihuahuas and toy dogs. This book is definitely superior to all of them. This book is written so anyone can easily understand it. The training tips are very step by step. The book is pretty objective when discussing both sides of an issue. All in all, this book is amazing. I recommend it to everyone.
- I AM A CHIHUAHUA BREEDER AND THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK I HAVE READ THAT GIVES NEW CHI OWNERS STEP BY STEP GUIDANCE AS TO THE CARE AND UPBRINGING OF THEIR NEW PUPPY. I WILL RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO EVERY PERSON I SELL A PUPPY TO.

5 comments about James Herriot's Dog Stories: Warm And Wonderful Stories About The Animals Herriot Loves Best.
- James Herriot's Favorite Dog Stories is a short but delightful book written by the world famous veterinarian. It is beautifully illustrated by Lesley Holmes.
This book consists of ten stories from Herriot's previous books that feature dogs that he has treated over the years. It's difficult to pick a favorite as they all have amazing personalities. There is Brandy, who is such a scrounger that he gets his tongue stuck in tin cans that he digs out of the trash can. TrickiWoo, a Pekingese, picks winning horses at the races. And Gyp, an epileptic sheepdog, only barked once in his entire life. Although all the dogs have special characteristics, it is obvious that it would take a veterinarian with compassion and humor to see that these animals are more than just pets.
I truly enjoyed Favorite Dogs Stories. However, if you've already read Herriot's other books (which I haven't), you will find that they're repeats.
- All of James Herriot's books are great. This is another one. All dogs are unconditional love on four legs.
Stephen Richey author of The Galley
- I drive an hour each way to and from work, and this enjoyable book made the time go by quickly.
- This is an exceptional book of true stories from the author's actual experiences... a heart-warming book that will bring laughter, tears, and a thorough enjoyment for readers of all ages.
- I read his books as a teen and loved them. Bought the whole set for my grandsons, [teens]. They laughed until they cried. [so did I].

5 comments about Coton De Tulear (Kennel Club Dog Breed Series).
- A great book for the Coton owner! Our new puppy, Isabelle is the first Coton that we've ever owned, so I wanted to gain as much information about the breed as I possibly could. This book was great! It has information on the history of the Coton, as well as what to expect of the breed, and good information on raising a Coton puppy. The book contains great photos. I highly recommend this book for the first time owner of a Coton, as well as those familiar with the breed. Not many books about this breed available at pet stores or book stores, so I was very pleased to find the book through Amazon!
- Not many people are familiar with this type of dog so when I purchased this book I was very pleased. It tells you everything you need to know about this breed of dog. I would recommend it to anyone who has this dog and is looking for more insight on health matters, grooming, behavior, etc.
MM
- This is the only book that I know of about the Coton de Tulear. There are some informative things about the Coton, but there is also general information about caring for dogs that does not pertain to the Coton. Overall, though, it's better than nothing!
- It is rare to find a book on my dog, a Coton De Tulear. This book was great and I will use for a reference in his care.
- There doesn't seem to be a lot of material printed about this breed so I was excited to find this. It was a gift, it was very well received.

5 comments about Positive Perspectives: Love Your Dog, Train Your Dog.
- I have had dogs all my life, and though I thought I knew dogs pretty well and how to train them, I learned a lot from this book. I recognized that some of my methods were out of date. I tried these new and improved methods on a new dog I just got who is 1.5 years old. It has been amazing how quickly our bond grew from these both sensible and respectful methods of teaching. I learned not to be quite so forceful with my new friend. I learned that being Alpha in the pack did not mean having to intimidate my dogs. I highly recommend it for those who are not getting the behaviors they want and need from their dog companions, and also, for those who are considering getting or just have added a new dog of any age to the family. Knowledge like this can really save many if not most of these beautiful and loving animals from being dumped at our shelters or elsewhere.
- I am a rescuer, and I have purchased many copies of this book to give to new adopters-- and I ALWAYS recommend it to every dog owner. This book offers great instruction for training obedience-- AND lots of useful information on dog behavior.
- This book goes over the basics of puppy and dog training using positive methods. It's a great introduction to positive training methods and describes how to teach your dog a number of important behaviors. It has definitely helped me train my new puppy. My only complaint is that there are a few training descriptions that don't really tell you how to finish the exercise with your dog. For example, the book goes over the difference between "wait" and "stay" and describes how to do both, but focuses on "stay." It didn't really tell how you tell your dog he can stop the "wait." I'm going to be looking for more information to help me continue training my puppy, but I still would definitely recommend it for anyone new to dog ownership.
- this is a good book when you first get your puppy and i really like her techniques but i was looking for more tricks.
- No matter what breed or age your dog is, this book can help you train your furry friend. A must have for dog owners and professional trainers alike.

5 comments about Tricks of the Trade: From Best Intentions to Best in Show, Revised Edition.
- This book was very informative for a newbie but I wanted just a little more detail.
- If you are new to the show world or have been showing for years, you will find this book an excellent read.. Lots of tips on showing and grooming.. You will feel like a pro in the ring after reading this book..
- I purchased this book based on reviews suggesting that this is the one book to get if you are a novice in the conformation ring. It is definitely not that. It is maybe a good book for a novice breeder who is intending to also show their first prospect - and who may be clueless about how to identify a good foundation stock puppy. Much of the book's substance is how to identify a prospect and then how to proceed as a breeder - like advertising, etc. Very little of the book helps a notive/intermediate handler actually do as the title suggests - from best intentions to best in show. It is not very helpful for people who already know how to get a good puppy, know the basics of stucture and how to do basic grooming and care, but would like to learn the basics of showing and the stepped up demands of grooming.
- "Tricks of the Trade" is definitely the best book I've read in a long time. This judge really knows her dogs and knows how to explain things in plain and simple terms for even the newest dog show enthusiast to enjoy. Even if you're not a dog show enthusiast, but are just looking to purchase a new puppy, you will benefit from reading this book first.
- Good book, easy to read with plenty to learn for the beginner to the more advanced handler. This will be a book that I will read again, there is so much to get out of it that I expect to continue to pick up more each time I read it.

5 comments about A New Owner's Guide to Bulldogs.
- My husband and I have really enjoyed this book. We are getting our new bulldog pup in a few weeks and can't wait!!!
- My boyfriend had an English bulldog as a child and wants one now very badly,so we have started the process. I thought this would be a good book to read and refresh him on being a bulldog owner. The pictures in the book are adorable, the information is thorough and gives you information on the breed history, how to pick the bulldog and the whole puppy process. I would highly recommend buying this book.
- I am in the process of getting my first bulldog and this book was a helpful introduction to the breed and addressed my initial concerns about adopting a bulldog. It has great pictures and helpful tips about bringing home a new puppy. My only disappointment was that it lacked substantial and glossed over many topics such as training. Overall, great book for beginners though!
- This book offers alot on bulldogs. It's a must have if you're a first bulldog owner or not.
- I liked this book both because it was easy and undertandable to read and because it is a source for many good tips.

5 comments about Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies.
- Solid book, but nothing I really didn't find on the internet. I guess you can either buy this book or just search online for a good hour or two on dogs and yorkies.
- This book got a lot of great reviews and I tend to like the "Dummies" books. It did follow the traditional format the Dummy books are known for and it was informative and helpful. However, the lack of two stars are for what seemed to be the lean towards AKC snobbery. Come on, a pet Yorkie should never be bred because she isn't show quality? We are getting our Yorkie because we want her to be loved and a member of our family; but this book seemed to written for those who have an allegiance to the AKC and only own Yorkies for strutting in shows. By the way, there are other organizations to register a Yorkie with than the AKC!!
May I recommend the Animal Planet Yorkshire Terriers book instead?.
- This book is great. I bought it after already having Logan. I wish I would have bought it before hand. Lots of great info and they are pretty much bang on for everything they say. Please buy this book before buying your Yorkie... it does make life easier.
- This book really helped me decide if I wanted to get a Yorkie. I felt it didn't sugar coat them and made them feel real.
- I cannot believe there is no chapter on biting as a puppy. It is a thoroughly obnoxious habit--thought this book would have had some words of wisdom.

5 comments about Help for Your Shy Dog: Turning Your Terrified Dog into a Terrific Pet.
- I almost didn't get this book, when I was shopping on line, BUT I am soooo glad that I did. I found it very helpful for working with my dog. This is the first book that I got that said that sometime shy dogs are just born that way. I was such a relieve. I have tried many things to help bring her out of her shell, but was feeling like somehow I was failing her. The book gives practical examples and advice on how to handle situations and lots of patience is needed. To notice the small victories. It also had stories of how other shy dogs had overcome their shyness and do things that you want for your dog. I really recommend this book. If gives lots of suggestions and hope. Your hard work will pay off!
- I just recently acquired a somewhat shy mini-dachshund and needed instruction on how to assist him in overcoming his apprehensions. Various sources on line recommended this book. I bought it, as well "Help for Your Shy Dog" by Nicole Wilde. This Deborah Wood book was a complete waste of time - no details were included on how I should proceed with my dog on anything, only just what amounted to a bunch of cheerleading (e.g., "with patience even you can do it!"). The Nicole Wilde Book, however, contains all the protocols you need to follow for virtually any kind of fear a dog might have. I highly recommend "Help for Your Shy Dog" for anyone with a shy dog, or any kind of dog for that matter. After reading Nicole Wilde's book, I am now making huge progress with my dog's apprehensions, and feel well equipped to deal with any fear that may come up in the future. The Deborah Wood book is going in the trash.
- Okay book, a litlle disappointed since she stresses over and over training since I did that with my Ted already....many of the ideas in her book are really common sense
- A lot of good ideas for helping a shy dog to become a great member of your pack. It helped me to realize that my rescued shy dog will get better with time and there are actions I can take to help her adjust to her new family. Thanks for the encouragement in helping me deal with my timid dog. I would reccomend this book to people who have a shy dog.
- I'm so glad I found this book. The real-life stories she shares have helped me understand my sweet-but-fearful dog so much better. It's great to know that there is hope for helping my dog become happy and content.
