2 comments about The Complete Dog Organizer.
- I got my organizer quickly and it was exactly what I was expecting it to be. I am very pleased.
- I bought this as a gift for a friend who just got a new puppy. He has already filled out all the information and started storing his paperwork in it. This is a great gift idea. He said that it asks for a lot of good information and has insightful health related information for your new pet.

5 comments about The Dog Who Spoke with Gods.
- Although I concider myself a cat person, I love a good animal story wherever I can find it. I totally recommend this book to anyone, whether they like cats, dogs or are just after a really good read. I picked out The Dog Who Spoke With Gods while browsing the fiction aisle in B&N. When I began reading it a few days later, I was totally pulled in to the story of Elizabeth and her singleminded devotion to Damien, a laboratory dog, and the life-altering changes she underwent because of this dog. It was hard to put this book down. I was so amazed by author Diane Jessop's wonderful writing style and her storytelling ability. As I got further along into the book, I could tell she put her heart and soul into its creation. Here it is a few days after I have finished reading it, and I am still thinking about it. I must warn you, it does not have a happy ending, But when you are done reading it, you will come away with insites into things you may or may not have concidered before. This book is a keeper. I hope someone makes it into a movie.
- When I started this book I was very excited about it as it was well written, realistic, fantastic characters, good versus evil....seemed the best of everything...not to mention I love dogs. When the dog started talking though, the whole thing fell apart for me and it just got worse. Though the main character was a young, intelligent college student, she was undoubtedly the most stupid human on the face of the earth. The people she trusted (all her enemies), the idiotic decisions she made....big DUH!!! I honestly can't believe this book got 5 stars at all. The ending was horrible. I finished the book because for me it was such a joke how bad it got and I honestly wondered if it could get worse. YES!!!
Borrow it from someone, read the first half and then pass it on to someone else. Make up your own ending. Girl runs off with dog, finds understanding rental situation, reapplies to different college for an Animal Science Degree, goes on to vet school and becomes the best alternative vet out there.
- what ever you do, dont spend money on this book. it is the worst piece of propaganda i have read in a long time. compared to the working pitbull, this book does nothing but damage the breed. avoid at all costs.
- This was a wonderful book. A little far-fetched on a few things, but sooooo good. If you love dogs (especially pit bulls), and you hate the way they are treated by most people, you will like this book. Good read!
- So first I must say, I cried almost all the way through this book. That being said, it was a great read. I loved the story and the lack of cookie-cutter storyline that you would have expected. i do think it would have been awesome if Elizabeth had become a Vet... Some of the character development was a little boring... the dog storyline was way more interesting to me than the other characters. The overall awesomeness of this story will appeal to any pit bull lover, or anyone who has felt that strong, unexplainable bond with their pet.

5 comments about World of the American Pit Bull Terrier.
- I bought this book when it first came out, it is an essential reference for the pit bull fancier. Lots of nice pics, information and great dogs, to boot. Chronicals the breed from its beginning, a great dog for the right (responsible) owner!
- when I first purchased a am.pitbull this is the book I read
you may think it promotes fighting, when in fact it does not He even says in it he does not encourage it... But he does explain about the facts of it and why which in my opinion is very open and honest and to the fact about the novices pit fighters he explains that you don't use abuse, which in my opinion again helps those who choose to game test their dogs. I am against all forms of abuse with animals, and in his explaining the right way to train a pitbull is in fact saving alot of animals from abuse!!!! if you are an intelligent person you will understand this it's up to the individual to choose what they do I appluade Mr.Stratton for writing this book It's definately a book that will become dog-eared(LOL): )
- hello my name is cory smith and I am a breder o fthe APBT I totaly got hooked on the breed when I first read The World of the American Pit Bull Terrier I was totaly amazed Stratton had no fear and was totaly proud of what he does and I support him and his beliefs. I read this book like a holy man reads the bible. all I can say to Stratton is keep scraching.
Cory
- Not only have I met and talked with Mr. Stratton, but Ive read and re-read all his books. This book was writen on the history of pitbulls.period. To read into it any more you'd have to be a fool.
- If you're a redneck w/a Pit bull and want to see lots of pictures of other rednecks w/Pit bulls, then this is the book for you. Great book on dog fighting and animal abuse. Pit bulls make wonderful pets, but you'd never know it from reading this book.

2 comments about Dog-ku: Very Clever Haikus Cleverly Written by Very Clever Dogs.
- Every dog owner can attest that when they look into their hound's eyes, they can just *tell* what their dog is thinking. But it took a skilled and clever poet named Steve Marsh to translate it all in to poetry.
"DOG-KU" absolutely charms with its funny, spot-on haikus. Like the chihuahua in this book who muses "don't dress me in human clothes" or he'll "poop in your purse," these are tiny poems with a BIG bark.
A perfect gift any dog lover in your life who might agrees with "ZAC," (one of the four-legged bards Marsh channels) when he writes: "They say that the puns are the lowest form of humor. Wrong. Cats are the lowest form of humor."
- A book of haikus written by dogs (as told by various dogs to poet Steve Marsh, coincidentally). An idea so clever and simple you wonder why no one did it before.
The collection is a beautifully bound work filled to the brim with pictures and haikus. The first thing you want to do when you pick up the tome is to flip through the pages and see if your dog's breed is respresented (mine was). Then you start scanning the haikus (divided in sections such as "Cleanliness", "Cats" and "Eating") and find yourself laughing out loud at some of these dogs' audacity. For example:
"All day I sniff butts.
I come home to celebrate
By kissing your face."
Another zinger:
"You speak so proudly
of dog domestication.
We adopted YOU!"
A perfect gift for dog lovers and a fine collection of haikus for the silly side of your collection or poetry reading.

3 comments about Kennel Building and Management (Howell reference books).
- Someone bought me this book on kennel management and as I've read the others on the market, at first glance I thought it would be of no interest and sadly a waste of their money. But I enjoyed it. You don't read over 200 pages written by a man with such experience and not learn something. It's my opinion that this isn't a high profile reference book for the already initiated, wanting factual A-Z information. (Jim Krack writes an amazing book if you want this.) Nor is it for the new-age, big bucks commercial operator-to-be, dealing with dogs as if they are plastic houseplants. It would more likely be of use to the upgrading hobbyist or novice wanting to know the fundamental arts and craft of kennel operating, and most likely will be starting with a very modest one from home. Mario shares his knowledge through his experience, examples and testimonies. His skill is not bombarding the novice with too much information and jargon. Instead he picks on a few key issues that only someone who has served (I quote from the profile page) " an extensive apprenticeship" knows that if you don't get right, or cut corners in the beginning, you'll spend forever putting it right. Some of his examples get multiple concepts over very well to someone who has not experienced them before. I like this book because it is well written and from his personal perspective and experiences. It's a stepping-stone that the novice can build upon. And also, I bet he didn't just blindly list products to use from a mailing list, but because he tried them or knew someone they had worked for. His simple odor control worked perfectly for me, while others have failed. The type of building panels he recommended for the small operator, proved to be just right. This in itself paid for the book. It's my recommendation that the simplicity of this book is not its weakness, but its joy, because only truly experienced people can simplify complicated issues so that beginners may begin to learn.
- This book might be good as a simple review for children interested in kennels. I found it to be very simplistic and filled with a lot of "common sense" information. If you are really interested in reading it, check your local library, it is just not worth the money.
- A major disappointment for the serious kennel builder. Its only merit, perhaps, is as a starting point for further research in kennel design and management. It has very, very few useful tips or practical advice a kennel builder needs to make educated decisions when constructing or modifying a kennel. Management suggestions are simplistic at best and leave the reader with more questions than answers. Provides almost no advice in the most practical and crucial areas such as what kinds of paint and construction materials are best suited for kennels, or how to effectively heat and cool, structure a drainage system, etc. Although there are less than a handful of books on this subject, steer clear or consider this book a starting point for more research. I just completed a huge boarding and dog training facility and didn't find one truly helpful tip from this book.

5 comments about Successful Dog Adoption.
- While the author's test may not be 100% accurate, her premise is that one should be VERY careful in adopting dogs in order not to get an aggressive dog. This is something that most other adoption books gloss over. The author is concerned that many agencies seeking to have dogs adopted are more concerned with getting the dog a home than in protecting the adopting owner. Why adopt trouble?
I've had 12 dogs in my life and am thinking of adopting when my 12 year old dog dies. I've been reading as many books as I can about adopting dogs and adult dog behavior and this is one of the best that I've found.
- Dogs need our help. Thousands die every day simply because they do not have a home. If you are involved in fostering, breed rescue or simply love dogs, read this book to learn about how to evaluate dog temperament. If you are looking to adopt a dog, this book will teach a scientifically proven effective method of evaluating a dog's personality.
- I bought two books on dog adoption, this book being one of them. I really didn't get my money's worth from this book. The tests that the author advised just are not practical. If people did what she said, no shelter dogs would ever get adopted. In general, other books on dog adoption have a lot more practical advice than this one. This book was not a total loss, I did learn a few things from it. But, all in all, it was not worth my money.
- What a great book! It is very well written, authoritative without being condescending, easy to understand without being simplistic and sometimes downright funny. I started reading at random and just could not put it down. Recommended for anybody who wants to adopt a dog - even if you do not believe in or want to try the test described in the second part of the book, there is a wealth of information on the first 100 pages alone.
I feel I have a much, much better chance now of finding the "Love of my life" dog we are all hoping for.
- As a parent of 3 who is looking into getting a dog and has seen a very strong anti-family/anti-child bias among shelter and rescue groups, I really appreciate this book. Her section on reading the internet ads was especially enlightening, since all shelters within a decent driving distance from me do most of their advertising on Petfinder. If we do decide to adopt a dog, I feel much more confident not only evaluating the dog, but evaluating the shelter.
