2 comments about Letters From The Edge: A Travelogue Throught the Looking Glass of Paralysis.

  1. Outstanding book. Should be a must read for people working in health care, caregivers trying to assist others, anyone struggling with a chronic medical condition and every politician on the face of the planet. Amazing insights from an "insider's" point of view on what it is like trying to deal with the world after a loss of function. Truly inspirational stories....this book will help a lot of people.

  2. If you ever start to feel sorry for yourself you should read this book... Michael really knows how to find the bright side of almost any situation. He has a talent for being able to get others back on their feet when life has delt them a low blow.
He minimizes the negatives and magnifies the positives while relishing each and every experience!
    Thanks for a wonderful book-

4 comments about Return to Chewelah: A Story of Innocence and Loss.

  1. A fantastic true story of young love in Seattle, a diabling accident, courage and perseverance in her struggle to regain a normal life. I met this young woman in Chewelah shortly after her accident. She came to the ski area I managed in her wheelchair looking for a job, which was near impossible to imagine. Recently I discovered her book on a flight to South America and stayed up all night to finish it. Now I have reread it twice more and have traveled to Seattle to meet her. She is an amazing woman.

  2. "A tour to the pits of loss and chaos, a Christopher Reeve injury story with Woodstock players. Brutally frank, disturbingly explicit, more than you really want to know. Chewelah is the lone touchstone for some peace and a measure of healing and acceptance and remembrance of things past and longed for. Told from the heart with a sense of anger, frustration, hurt, resentment, some understanding and love." John Dawson M.D.- general surgeon

  3. "A Seattle woman pens a brutally honest memoir about her difficult recovery after a riding accident leaves her paralyzed, including criticisms about the rehab treatment she received" Seattle Post-Intelligencer

  4. I loved this book. Anyone who has ever appreciated the freedom of the country, or felt the captivity of quadriplegia or other diseases would love this book. Janet's brutal honesty & revealing nature was refreshing. It was one book that I had to read cover to cover without putting it down.

1 comments about Front-Line Nurse: British Nurses in World War II.

  1. Personal accounts from the nurses who were there. Disappointingly lacking in details such as pay, attitudes, and supplies for the time period. Easy to read.

2 comments about Not in Vain: Extraordinary Life.

  1. Wonderful book, easy to read even if your english is not your
mother language. Once you start this book you don't want to leave it A lot of small stories which captive the reader,
especially if he remembers some events of World War 2.
Very good exemple of a sincere cooperation between Jews & Arabs
    to save lifes

  2. This book gently draws us into the life of Thea Woolf and into the world of this Jewish nurse who lived and worked in Alexandria, Egypt during World War II. She was born in Germany and trained to be a nurse there. She then served as a nurse in the Jewish hospital in Alexandria for many years. Being in Egypt before and during the war years not only saved her life but also thrust her into a leading role of helping Jewish refugees who came to or through Egypt in their attempt to escape the holocaust.

She relates several stories of people who took part in this fight to save so many lives. These stories are both tragic and uplifting. We discover that Muslims as well as Jews worked together for this cause, that for these caring people human life was more important to them than any religious differences.
