1 comments about A Guide Book of United States Coins, 1997: Fully Illustrated Catalog and Retail Valuation List-1616 to Date (Paper) (Paper).
- Good for a beginner but there are better books to get the history of US coinage from. Also for higher grade & more expensive coins no one uses the Redbook for pricing any more. Sorry! Still it'll give you an orderly catalog of the US coin types with a brief sketch of them & will list all the dates, & mintmarks. Perhaps unless you wish to consult a weekly newspaper on coins this is the best pricing guide you can find in a book. Old redbooks (1950's & before)are actually quite collectable themselves & may be worth over $100

1 comments about Standard Catalog of U. S. Tokens, 1700-1900 (Standard Catalog of United States Tokens, 1700-1900).
- This is a very fine resouce book, especially for U.S. tokens issued between 1700 and 1860.
The book gives information on the following categories: * The name and issuer of the token * Photos of both sides of most tokens * A catalog number * A rarity rating * Date or estimated date of issue * Metallic composition * Size * Values for 4 different preservation grades The catalog is organized in alphabetical order, by state, and has a very thorough Index for ease in locating information. There are sections that include information on: * Early American Tokens (1700-1832) * Hard Times Tokens (1833-1844) * U.S. Merchant Tokens (1845-1860) * Civil War Store Cards (1861-1865) * Patriotic Civil War Tokens (1861-1865) * U.S. Trade Tokens (1866-1889) * Tokens of the Gay Nineties (1890-1900) Although this is a very thorough source for a large variety of tokens, not all tokens issued during this time period are included within this book. If you are searching for token information on the following items this book is NOT the book for you. Little, if any, information is included within this book concerning the following token categories. * Civil War tokens issued between 1861-1865 * Amusement Tokens * Hard rubber (vulcanite) cards * Indian and post trader tokens * Shell and Mirror cards * Military tokens * Telephone tokens * Transportation Tokens (1845-1900) * Medals (33mm or larger) * Political campaing pieces (1845-1900) * Prison Tokens I consider this to be a very good resource book. The only thing that would have made it better, in my opinion, is if it would have included more information on the excluded token categories.

4 comments about The Penny Bank Book: Collecting Still Banks Through the Penny Door.
- While I mostly collect mechanical banks I do have some interest in still banks. This is the book most often referred to by collectors and sellers alike on E-bay or other auction sites regarding size, rarity, and price. The first sections deal with care and reproductions, followed by illustrations of still banks from manufacturers catalogs. Then comes a color section on banks followed by an appendix. There are several drawbacks to this book. The $49.95 price for a book published in 2000 is high in my opinion. Secondly, many of the banks are photographed together rather than individually so you really don't get that much detail. You also do not get too much information on each bank.
- Great book for the collector. Better than the earlier editions in that it has the prices listed with the pictures instead of in the back of the book.
Still the same banks that were in the earlier editions though.
- I was at an auction and five out of the six banks there were listed in the book.
- The Penny Bank Book is a pictorial and value guide to collecting banks. Containing both good pictures and approximate values, it is the most comprehensive bank collecting book available at this time. It is a must for any serious collector. This is the guide I keep in my car to advise me.

5 comments about The Official U.S. Casino Chip Price Guide (Schiffer Book for Collectors).
- Actually the title says it all. While somewhat out of date (it's been 3 years since this was published) it is the most comprehensive guide to casino chips at this time. I wouldn't bid on a chip without first looking it up in this guide.
- This is the best casino chip price guide currently available. It is incomplete in that it does not include any of the Silver Strikes or metal slot token issues.
The price guide is a paperback, not a hardcover as listed in the title.
- Was shipped fast and the chip guide is finely detailed, many color photos and very inclusive. A MUST have for a serious chip collector.
- If you collect casino chips, or are just interested in the history of casinos and casino chips, then this book is a must. Every conceivable chip from just about every casino that ever existed is displayed. Chips are all listed with an estimated value which is very useful, especially for the casual collector like myself. There is a thorough discussion of chip characteristics and grading criteria. The research that went into this book is phenomenal. Mr. Campiglia has painstakingly documented sales, scarcity and the history of each and every chip. The book is well laid out with color photos of each chip and many photos of the casinos they came from. There are also many interesting factoids and anecdotes pertaining to the history of casinos in America. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and refer to it often as I build my collection. I give this book my highest recommendation.
- This book was created with the chip collector in mind. It has great color pictures of many chips and explains the values very well.No chip is left behind in this complete softcover compact book. This 3rd edition is a must have for any chip collector.
