1 comments about Warman's Coins & Paper Money: Identification and Price Guide (Warman's Coins and Paper Money).

  1. Allen Berman's Warman's Coins & Paper Money covers both ancient and modern coins, art medals, bank checks, and commemoratives under one cover. Explanations of grades is quite handy but it's the wider-ranging coverage of this guide which sets it apart and will make it appealing for avid and dedicated collections of all kinds of money.

5 comments about Presidential Dollars Collector's Portfolio.

  1. This Portfolio is 16" x 11" which isn't easily put on a shelf. No wonder that wasn't in the description. A Brad was in top right corner of the cover, for reasons unknown. While it will do the job it wasn't what I thought when I ordered it.

  2. This item is very functional & sturdy so it serves the purpose, but the coin holders have to be pried out to insert the coin ,sometimes this is difficult. It is a good value for the money though.

  3. I was surprised at the size of the Portfolio. It is huge. This is not a Portfolio what will be easy to fit onto a bookcase.

  4. The portfolio is nice. A little disappointed that there was not a space for both a Denver Mint coin and a Philadelphia Mint coin. Good buy for the price.

  5. I was very pleased with the article. Also, very pleased with the delivery.

3 comments about 2007 North American Coins & Prices: A Guide to U.S., Canadian and Mexican Coins (North American Coins and Prices).

  1. I bought this book when I started collecting Canadian commemorative dollars and the book has been a big help providing information like mintage figures, images of the coins, and prices. It also gives the sizes in mm for the different coins which makes ordering albums or holders a lot easier.
I would recommend this book to beginners and long term collectors a like if they are buying Canadian or Mexican coins. I have several other world coin books and this book provides more useful information and is easy to follow.
I just finished a US modern commemorative collection and I wish I had had this book when I was buying coins for that. The pricing of the coins in this set aren't correct in this book but the other information is valuable.

  2. I have ordered this book year after year for my dad for several years. This year he told me that the book has more information about the mexican coins, in fact, he order several books for all his friends.

If you had an older edition or you are interested in mexican coins, you should buy this book.

  3. Terrific little book, I use it all the time. If you have been collecting coins for years then you may not need this book but you are going to want it. It catalogs all (as the title suggests) the North American Coins (U.S., Canada & Mexico). On the other hand if you are just getting started in coin collecting then this book is an essential. Either way, it's well written and accurate, enough said.

1 comments about Fifty States Quarters Silver Edition.

  1. The book contains historical information about each of our 50 States that is just enough for the attention span of children. The fun is collecting the quarters that are minted for each state (the book tells you when each state's will be minted) to put into the outside cover's plastic coin slots. This is a great birthday gift - - you can put a few quarters in the slots to get the kids started on their collection (the last quarters won't be minted until 2008.) This book was a better value than some others that I found; some of the more expensive books or collecting sets had too much extra stuff or too much info to hold a child's attention. I was looking for something specifically for the State Quarters without getting into coin collecting in general, and this fit the bill.

4 comments about The Official U.S. Mint 50 State Quarters Portfolio.

  1. This portfolio is sturdy and well-designed. The slots for the quarters are tight so you dont have piles of change when you set it down. Nice descriptions of each state next to slot. Well worth the few dollars extra.

  2. My kids absolutely love this portfolio...I do too. Each state has a placeholder (they pop out for the coin to be inserted) with the state name and mint location. The kids love searching for the state name and "P" or "D." This is a high quality folio, it's very sturdy and the coins stay put in their location.

If you're looking for an album where the coins come in and out with ease, this is not the album for you. If you're looking for a smaller album that fits nicely in an average shelf, this too is not for you (see dimensions).

The kids love to read over the state facts and then find the state location from the map of the U.S. on the center page. We have also used an additional cheap but good state coin book by Whitman (The Inside Story Of The State Quarters (Official Whitman Guidebook))that provides the kids with a larger look at the design of the coin and additional history.

  3. This is a classroom size state quarter portfolio. With facts about each President, state trivia and room for all the state quarters, including both mint sites, this is a good beginner's coin holder . I enjoyed reviewing the American facts and the short biographies of the Presidents as much as I did filling in all the spaces for the coins. My grandkids liked it so much they started collections of their own, which was my original intent anyhow (:D).

  4. My 5-year-old received this as a gift and has thoroughly enjoyed collecting the state quarters. I just bought one for my newborn and will collect for her until she's old enough to do it herself--especially since this will be continuing a number of years!

2 comments about Standard Catalog of German Coins: 1601 To Present (Standard Catalog of German Coins).

  1. Unless you speak/read German, this is as good as it gets. Not only is this most comprehensive compilation of relative values of German States issues, but the other information helps with the overall history lesson. This book is an ABSOLUTE MUST for anyone at the German coin beginner/intermediate level of collecting, and I suspect it has become quite useful to the advanced collectors/dealers.

  2. Krause Publications has brought under one cover the vast numismatic production of the German cities, states, and colonies from 1600 to date. Every serious collector of German coins needs this book. This book is a real bargain because it eliminates the need for the German coin collector to purchase Krause's regular world coin books that are now broken down into different centuries (this single volume pulls information out of the four volumes that would otherwise be required).

    Here are some good points:

    1. Collectors of Thalers will be pleased to see Davenport numbers incorporated in their favorite areas.

    2. Numerous illustrations aid the collector in identifying unknown coins.

    3. Prices appear in at least four grades for each coin.

    4. Helpful sections include an "Instant Identifier" with illustrations of various coin designs specific to a particular area, and "Legend Abbreviations" which give the collector a big leg up in identifying coins based on the legends alone.

    5. A decent attempt is made at listing Pattern pieces (those coin designs never officially adopted).

Here are a few areas where the book could be better:

    1. Prices appear to reflect the American market for German coins which, in many cases, is substantially lower than the German market for the same coins.

    2. Some of the States higher in the alphabet (Saxony, for example) seem to be lacking data on the earliest coins.

    3. I'd like to see the Pattern section expanded and possibly include the numbers from Schaaf's reference book on this area.

    4. Cross-references to Jaeger (the German "Guidebook") would be helpful to our friends across the big pond.

Lest I appear too critical, let me state that the positive impact of this book and the obvious time and effort that went into its production are immensely important. No other reference on German coins comes anywhere close to matching the sheer volume of information contained herein. No other single book opens up the world of German coins like this book does. Thus, whether you're a beginning or an advanced collector, this book should be an essential part of your reference library.

1 comments about Standard Catalog of U. S. Tokens, 1700-1900 (Standard Catalog of United States Tokens, 1700-1900).

  1. This is a very fine resouce book, especially for U.S. tokens issued between 1700 and 1860.

The book gives information on the following categories: * The name and issuer of the token * Photos of both sides of most tokens * A catalog number * A rarity rating * Date or estimated date of issue * Metallic composition * Size * Values for 4 different preservation grades

The catalog is organized in alphabetical order, by state, and has a very thorough Index for ease in locating information.

There are sections that include information on: * Early American Tokens (1700-1832) * Hard Times Tokens (1833-1844) * U.S. Merchant Tokens (1845-1860) * Civil War Store Cards (1861-1865) * Patriotic Civil War Tokens (1861-1865) * U.S. Trade Tokens (1866-1889) * Tokens of the Gay Nineties (1890-1900)

Although this is a very thorough source for a large variety of tokens, not all tokens issued during this time period are included within this book.

If you are searching for token information on the following items this book is NOT the book for you. Little, if any, information is included within this book concerning the following token categories.

    * Civil War tokens issued between 1861-1865 * Amusement Tokens * Hard rubber (vulcanite) cards * Indian and post trader tokens * Shell and Mirror cards * Military tokens * Telephone tokens * Transportation Tokens (1845-1900) * Medals (33mm or larger) * Political campaing pieces (1845-1900)

    * Prison Tokens

I consider this to be a very good resource book. The only thing that would have made it better, in my opinion, is if it would have included more information on the excluded token categories.
