1. Not for the serious collector. Not bad for a real beginner. Explains some of the terms associated with watch movement styles.

   Too many pages devoted to Swatch, I was hoping for more in depth of older models.

   But is is cheap and would make a nice gift.




2. This small book on watches contains a little information on specific collectable watches, and some very general terms. The pictures are well done, and make the book worth the few dollars it cost. Section on Swatch is informative. Not essential

1. Tran Duy Ly has a series of clock books for Identification and Pricing. His books are FAR SUPERIOR to ANY other clock book of their type. Whether you're a novice or advanced collector, you cannot do without his guides. His comprehensive guides offer hundreds of photos and illustrations of actual clocks produced from owners and manufacturers original catalogs. His books offer difinitive answers to your questions about authenticity of your prized timepiece. His thorough review of the companies history and other details mandate these books as a requirement for the clock enthusiast. His books picture the various movements that were utilized and even several pendulums. His pricing scheme utilized is NOT based on only one persons opinion to thier value. He involves an international base of "experts" on the chosen topic and through their inputs to the value (from across the U.S. and abroad) arrives at an average value for each clock. Each book contains values for most every model of clock produced by factories such as Gustav Becker and American firms such as Seth Thomas and others. I have been fortunate to be selected to assist Mr. Ly in compiling and pricing several of his books. Having bought and sold in excess of 20,000 antique clocks, I share my knowledge with YOU. 1. Produced in 1971/74 and probably a decent guide 30+ years ago. However, I would not recommend this guide to today's collector because it is simply obsolete. The prices are pre-ebay and the photos are dark and often out of focus. Group Photos of clock fronts (no photos of backside) do not provide enough detail.

1. I've had this book for a few years now and bought if before I discovered Amazon.com. I heard such excellent reviews about it that I contacted the author in England and requested a book from him directly. I'm very glad I did. This book covers every aspect of clock design and construction. The title is perfect. If you have always wanted to build your own clock (we're talking gears, plates, pinion, the whole works), then this is the book for you! I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It covers so much information that it is my #1 reference when I have a clock works question. I have read it dozens of times and always seem to pick up something new. If you are serious about building a clock, then you know that clock making books are rare. This one is excellent. 5 stars isn't enough. Plenty of detailed drawings make the explanations perfectly clear. Don't be thrown off by it's size.... though the book is thin (144 pages) it is full of very usefull information.
