2 comments about Miller's: Watches: A Collector's Guide (Miller's Collector's Guides).

  1. The title page on Amazon website says the book is 100 pages. it's actually 64 pages, of which 10 are table of contents, index and glossary. The entry for "Watches after 1945" is 2 pages long

    I'm returning it

  2. This book is a "must have" for the serious watch collector. We see the most significant (and many not so significant) watches from the very earliest mechanical time pieces to the wrist watches of the 20th century.

Though comprehensive in its coverage and detail, I was left thirsty for color (as well as size) in the illustrations. As a general guide for watches throughout history though, there simply is no other book to have for the price. Period.

1 comments about Complete Guide to American Pocket Watches 1987, No 7 (Official Price Guide to Watches).

  1. This is in its 18th edition. For the authors watches are their liveliehood and their passion. The number of photos is unexcelled although there is always room for improvement, the text at the beginning gives the beginner the knowledge and the glossary at the end a quick reference for terms. It is heavy on pockets but, also chock full of pictures on wristwatches and their prices, the industry almost standard (the market rules) For the money a hard book to beat if you buy more than one watch a year will save the buyer much more than the price of the book many times over. This IS the book to buy without question - universal among hobbyists and collectors alike.

2 comments about Miller's: Clocks & Barometers: Buyer's Guide (Miller's Buyer's Guides).

  1. I was very happy with my book I did know what I was ordering a friend had it so I will use Amazon again.

  2. An excellent resource for both prices & basic history on antique clocks of all types. Pictures provided for each item listed with price ranges taking into account the condition of the item. Although I had a solid basic knowledge regarding antique clocks, I found new information. The only reason I rated this book a 4 instead of a 5, is that Miller's needs to realize that it would be helpful to have dual listings of prices--both the pound/sterling and the dollar! As this seems to be a common complaint about their guides, you'd think they'd catch on! An excellent book otherwise--well written, informative with excellent examples and pictures!

  1. Great pictures. Pricing out-dated, but gives you a feel for the relative prices and which clocks are truly "rare." Brief histories of the great American clockmakers. A must for any serious clock collector, especially a beginer.

  2. With an extensive listing of every well known American clock maker, as well as a plethora of information about even the most arcane of manufacturers, this invaluable book repays its readers many times over! Comparative market pricing coupled with historical and little known facts make this a must-have for anyone with even a smidgen of curiosity about clocks. Well organized and easy to read, comprehensive and simple to get around, this book offers thousands of examples of clock and clock makers, and will satisfy the bent for precision and efficiency of even the most avid clock enthusiast.
