5 comments about The Veterinarians' Guide to Your Cat's Symptoms (Veterinarians Guide).
- I was pleased with the covering of information about normal cat behavior and normal cat functions--so as to better determine such with my own cats. However, the book is not comprehensive in its covering of abnormalites of feline health. I do like that it lists little icons next to various symptoms and diseases referring to the urgency of the situation. This book is a nice base covering of information to know about your cats in general, and for several problems that might arise over their life span.
- This book really helped us out because we thought our cat was not only crazy, but also sick. Sick and crazy is a bad combo. Turned out she just had allergies and typical cat spaz behavior. The book goes in depth to let you know what is going on with your pet so you don't have to shell out the big bucks to a vet. If you do have to go to a vet for something you can help them pinpoint the problem much quicker if you have done some research using the book beforehand.
Worth the money if you own cats.
- .
I read everything I could find at the local library concerning diagnosis of symptoms displayed by my cat. The technical books in the library were useless because of the plethora of technical terms that the average layman like me hasn't a clue on the meaning of. Also, the organization, or should I say lack of organization, of the other books made them tedious to follow. Many references and cross-references ad infinitum. I had to tease out answers to simple questions and, even then, didn't fully understand the points they were trying to make. I've had cats for most of my life and thought I was an expert, but I was stumped and worried about my little friend's symptomatic behavior. I needed help, and fast.Five minutes with the guide to symptoms by Garvey, et al, answered my immediate question and led to a quick solution. The book is filled with well rendered drawings that illustrate and complement the text. The people who put this book together obviously know cats intimately and understand cat behavior. The writing is easy to understand and to the point. It also explains the "whys" behind the facts. The table at the back is both comprehensive and easy for the average reader to understand. This is a book to be USED, not just read. No book is perfect but this one comes close and gave me what I needed. ....I'm totally satisfied with it.
- This is exactly what we expected it to be: A very helpful listing of symptoms/signs your pet could be displaying and what to make of it.
One major drawback of the volume is a political one: We are happy to live in a country decidedly more civilized where the surgical removal of a cat's claws is simply illegal. We could have well done without any advice regarding this disgusting notion: I mean if you are fonder of your furniture than of a living (pet or no) animal, then please get more furniture, not more pets...
- The unique chart form in the second half of this book provides cat ownerns with an invaluable quick reference when a cat is ailing. My cats, like most, often do not complain when they are not feeling well, and I must figure out what's wrong. This is an excellent, helpful guide.

5 comments about The Cat Whisperer: The Secret of How to Talk to Your Cat.
- I just brought home my first cat in 20 years, and find this book an excellent primer in getting to know this little creature & appreciate it as a friend. The book is identical to her other book titled "How to Talk to Your Cat", so no need to buy both. The book is not written in an 'owner manual' style, but rather as a long essay where the author dispenses her sage advice. All the author is doing in this book is tying together modern theory to explain what a cat is, & why it does what it does, so we can better appreciate it & have more fruitful interactions with it. Some people may prefer a more systematic & technical approach; it is all personal preference. But I agree, the title is very misleading & a slick marketing ploy.
- This book is one of the best I have seen on cat behavior and psychology. It is very in depth and easy to read. I recommend this to all users who want to get to know their cats better!
- Aside from the catchy title, I found little of use in this book that supposedly deals with cat communication. Any 'tasty morsels' were far and few between. Does the author even own a cat?
- At the beginning of this book, the author attempts to get us to understand from a cat's perspective on what it must be like to live with humans by comparing cats to Eskimos who suddenly move to the jungle. I nearly couldn't read any further. It is a distracting and unappetizing comparison with which Native people may be all too familiar.
Throughout the book, the author seems to go on and on about the relative popularity of dogs to cats. She includes far too much about dogs and their behavior characterstics in relation to people. If this were a book about cats and dogs that might have been appropriate. However, in this book, it was simply another distraction. There are a few interesting things, but overall doesn't cover any new ground that Desmond Morris hasn't already covered.
- I've read dozens of cat books in the last few years, and frankly I just thought this one was a waste of money. There is no new info here, no new point of view, nothing that isn't available in a dozen other cat books, and better written at that. Someone who picked up "Cats For Dummies" would get more plentiful, useful information.

5 comments about The Dog Who Rescues Cats: True Story of Ginny, The.
- When life appears to be its most complex, suddenly life throws us a bone. Ginny, an unexpected pet has unexpected psychic talents for discovering
cats in dire need of help. It might seem all very unlikely to a skeptic, but after you fall in love with Ginny, everything falls neatly into place.
-
If you love animals and animal stories, then this book is for you. This is a story of the power of love and dedication, how they can change a bitter individual into one who gives so much of himself towards others. Ginny is truly an outstanding dog. His love and devotion is enough of a story to engross anyone who doesn't have a cynical heart of stone. Anyone who loves cats, dogs, or any animals will be glad they bought this book.
Read also The Great Pumpkin Ride (Holiday)
- Ginny had a gift for finding stray cats. And her speciality was finding cats with disabilities. She and her owner had the patience of saints. She and her owner out early in the morning and late at night, regardless of the weather to feed the homeless cats and rescue as many as possible. A really good story.
- A fantastic important book. One of the top 10 to read about
animal welfare, animal rescue - the incredible bond of animals
and people - the healing connection of animals and people.
I see 34 other reviews here so I will not go into detail.
Get it. read it. Share It. Thank you both - Ginny the Dog and Philip
for sharing your lives! The Amazon review of this book says exactly
what I would say, so read it above. I will share this book when
Saint Sonoma the Cat and I make our Cat Therapy rounds.
- I really liked the story of Ginny and what she does. The writing was a little sophomoric, but it doesn't ruin the story. The pictures of Ginny's rescued cats are great.

5 comments about Cat Yoga: Fitness and Flexibility for the Modern Feline.
- What a fun idea. Great artwork and insiteful & educational quotes. I think I better understand both my yoga buddies and cat lovers much better.
- Imaginative, hilarious, well done Rick! I couldn't stop laughing... and sharing it with others. I'm looking forward to the sequel! Hope it's in the works!
- I was at a local bookstore over the weekend and saw the author doing a book signing. As soon as I opened the book I was blown away and also laughing out loud right in the store! I came home and my nephew and I read through the whole book together and laughed the whole time. I wish my cat was a cat yogi too! I've found the perfect holiday gift for all of my nieces and nephews this year. Go Cat Yoga!!
- This book is hilarious. I never thought this guy had so much to offer. I love his writing.
- This is a fun and clever little book that my family is enjoying on our coffee table lately. Each page depicts a cat in a Yoga postition and most pictures are really funny, my 6 year old son laughed like a lunatic during the first few readings. On the opposite pages, there is text describing the position with its true(?) Indian name, and humorous enlightenments for the reader on how each position improves such important cat concerns such as musculature, coat health, litter birthing capability and self-confidence. My kids, their Mom and I are enjoying it a lot! It's rare to find a book these days that appeals to kids and adults but this is a good example.

5 comments about What Is My Cat Thinking?: The Essential Guide to Understanding Pet Behavior.
- While much of the content of this book would be common sense to long-time cat owners, it's a great starting point for someone who hasn't had a feline in their life before. I really enjoyed the read and it's packed with really nice full-color photos. Best of all, the author doesn't overly anthropomorphise her subject but obviously loves cats as much as her audience.
- I'm glad there was information in this book I didn't know before. I'm glad I bought it.
- This was good if you want to have a basic understanding of what your cat's body movements mean and how they translate to how they are feeling. I recommend to read it with your children as there are many good pictures and it will better help them understand when to pet the cat and when to let it alone!
- I bought this after reading other reviews, but I was extremely disapponted in this book. The title is very misleading. I've had cats for years and wanted to learn more about their behavior and the differnt types of meows. This book does NOT do this. It's very basic and they write about behavior most children could figure out after being around their cat for a while. It mostly addresses cats behavior with other cats which an idiot can figure out without having to read about it. Not worth the money.
- An excellent primer for cat owning beginners and pros. The photos clearly illustrate the acompanying text. A wonderful addition to any cat companion's library and a must for beginners!

5 comments about Roger tabor's cat behavior.
- I have to say that I have a fondness for this book. It reminds me of the books I read as a kid, especially Funk & Wagnall's Animal Encyclopedias. It covers a wide range of topics such as kitten development, territorial behavior, cats and people, playing. It's like an overview of the cat as an entity with a light scientific/psychological/behavorial flavor....
- Book Contents:
1. Introduction2. Why is a cat...?3. Breed Behavior4. Your Cat's Territory5. Hunting Behavior6.Maternal Behavior7. Play and Learning8. Affection and Aggression9. Cat Chat10.The Human and Cat Relationship11.Cat Naps12.HowCatsThink13.Confinement14.Fouling Around the Home15.Spraying16.Furniture Damage17.Agression18.Rough Play19.Rubbing Armpits20.Paddling and Wool Sucking21.Ear Lobe Sucking22.Excessive Grooming23.Bringing Home Prey24.Eating House Plants25.Climbing Up26.Feline Obesity27.Finicky Feeders28.Roaming Although I have many cat topic books in my bookshelf, I bought this book. This book is informative. It also contains some unique point of view. The reason I only rate it as 4 stars is, I prefer a more human touch (sensation, humor) on cat topic books.
- The finest illustrated feline behaviour book around. It was an easy read with quality pictures and easy to understand. Highly recommended.
- It has to be the best Cat book ever written. It has opened my eyes to information that I never new existed. If you like or love Cats you MUST buy this book. You will love it!
- Roger Tabor is a renowned cat expert. He has often been featured on PBS. In fact, that is why I bought the book. I pride myself as a cat expert, but there are things in this book I never knew about cats. One important fact - if you pet a cat too much they might nip you. Often cats gets sent to shelters because they are misunderstood. This book will help people understand cats better. Great Book, Great photos.

- With a bit of pathos mixed in (the Missing Cat)
I would have LOVED to make those rounds with him!!
Dr Camuti was a doctor with a caring Heart and Soul and had a special bond with those animals he loved and cared for.
A wonderful book!!
- I had heard about Louis J. Camuti through my membership in the Cornell Feline Health Center. This story about Dr. Camuti's experiences as a NYC vet providing house calls for his feline patients is thoroughly engaging. The stories have a timeless appeal to those of us who are 'owned' by our cats.
- A vet who specializes in house calls for cats from the 1940's through the 80's writes in a witting and engaging way, telling charming stories about the cats (and people) he treated over the years. A pleasant read.
- I wish my cats had such a wonderful vet.
Kind of like an "All Creatures Great and Small" about cats in the city.
This collection of wonderful true stories written by a New York City Vet specializing in cats tells of his heartwarming and entertaining experiences with his patients and their owners.
If you love cats, you will love this book.
- This is one of my daughter's favorite books read when she was 10 yrs old. An adult friend also loved reading the author's humorous experiences as a vet in NYC.

4 comments about Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Plunges into National Parks (Bathroom Reader).
- As an avid BRI reader, I was really looking forward to this book. It has lived up to all my expectations. If anyone is interested in national parks in the US and Canada, this is "must" reading.
- I am very pleased with how soon this book was received. The book is very interesting and informative regarding National Parks. It is a hard book to put down once you start reading.
- This latest Uncle John publication proclaims on its back cover "It's time to hit the Trail!" Hit the history books is more like it. This wonderful little volume is full of fascinating trivia about the national parks and monuments found in the US and Canada. Each chapter is brief enough to be read during a single trip to the throne room of your house, and for the most part the prose is enjoyable enough to keep you coming back. Favorite stories for me were "The Great Pig War" in which the US and England nearly managed to go to war over a dead pig (San Juan Island National Historic Park) and the Mojave National Preserve's "lonely phonebooth."
For the most part the history and folklore seemed accurate enough, though the authors did slip a little when they wrote that Ansel Adams had saved King's Canyon with pictures of its Giant Sequoia Grove. There is no such grove in King's Canyon proper. General Grant Grove is now administered as a part of King's Canyon National Park, but it has been protected since 1890. In any event, King's Canyon was preserved because it so closely resembled Yosemite. On the other hand, virtually every other element of the book is accurate. Indeed, this is one of the few sources I have ever read that correctly notes Hot Springs Arkansas is the oldest National Park, dating back to 1835, long before the Yosemite Grant or the creation of Yellowstone National Park.
So, by all means get this rather unusual travel guide. It probably won't help much with actual trip planning, but it is nice for whiling away the time between trips: especially that portion of the time when you are otherwise preoccupied.
- Interesting tid bits about National Parks. Suggest you read this before visiting the parks. You might decide to change your routings, in some cases.

5 comments about A Snowflake in My Hand.
- No exaggeration here, this book is quite possibly the best book I've ever read - and I've read a LOT of books. I probably average 100-150 books per year and this book stands out like a shining beacon of what a book should be.
Without melodrama or saccharine-laced manipulations, the author manages to successfully illustrate the pain, no, the agony, of watching a beloved animal slip away. She shows the behind the scenes anguish and dedication of those who care for and strive to better the lives of our furry children. Nowhere have I seen animal-human relationships portrayed with such tenderness, sincerety and respect without a trace of the maudlin.
Ms. Mooney does not proselytize nor does she moralize, yet somehow she manages to bring forth a sense of the divine and everlasting bond possible with a special animal. She gives the sense also that however difficult, life does go on and that somehow, it must.
One other important note about this book - With her words, her attitude, and her wisdom, Ms. Mooney does a better job than could 12 trained counselors at helping to appease any guilt a companion person may have at any decisions made out of love for an animal.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever loved an animal or even anyone who has simply had a friendship with one. This book speaks to a level rarely seen or addressed in a simple paperback book.
- In law school, in a cinder block dormitory, Samantha Mooney's cats were a surrogate animal family for me, but such a tragic family, since death came sooner for them than for most of our pets. This was one of the very few books I carried home with me and I have never let it go in all the intervening years. If we must acknowledge that we are destined to outlive most of our pets, again and again we need a book to remind us to cherish their lives but not tether them to hopeless life when they are ready to let go. Many animals have shared their lives with me in the years since I graduated. This is the book I turn to when that sad day comes around for each of my animals in turn.
- It is a simple book, written for the average person. Nothing fancy, just a book written from the heart. If you've ever had the love of a cat, dog, or any other creature in your life then please get this book. It will warm your heart and make you feel what it's like to know true, sincere love. For those who think that humans are the only creatures with souls and feelings, you should read this book and maybe realize that we are truly not alone, there are intelligent and caring lifeforms all around us.
- Hard to believe this book would ever go out of print, or that the author apparently wrote nothing else. I got this book when it first came out, and periodically reread it -- and I'm not even a cat person. A wonderful book, beautifully written, about life, love, loss and renewal. Get a copy, this one is a jewel that shouldn't be missed.
- Lyrical, poignant, tender, this is a book clearly written by a cat lover. A slim memoir of her time as an veterinary research assistant in the oncology department of NYC's Animal Medical Center, the author is above all hopeful, despite the inevitable early demise that awaits most of her patients. She knows that while the doctors may not be able to cure the cancers of their feline patients, they can certainly improve the quality of life, allowing the cats to live out their lives as happily as medically possible. Highly recommended.
