2 comments about Cat: Wild Cats.

  1. I bought this book in amsterdam, and even in dutch it was vastly amusing. Now I am buying it in english for my mom. It's interesting to see how such varied artistic styles have represented the cat. Whimsical titles for each section make it even more amusing. Kids might also enjoy reading about the "wild cats", "solitary cats", etc.

  2. CAT: Wild Cats and Pampered Pets is another art book in a series prepared by the inventive Ivy Press in England that takes a seemingly simple subject to further enhance our knowledge about the visual arts. What cat lover could pass this little celebratory tome by? Using images of cats - from every form of our current concept of house pet to the most obtuse precursor and wild counterpart - this book provides paintings, drawings, sculptures of cats that juxtapose famous historical depictions by Klimt, Rubens, Fragonard, Bosch, Rembrandt along side works by contemporary artists both famous and emerging. CAT is not only a charming homage to a favorite creature but also a joyful introduction to art history and contemporary representational paintings of the highest order.

A coffee table book? Yes...it richly enhances the decor of your living space. But it is also small enough in format to tuck away for those idle hours away from home. This beautiful, thoughtful, informative little tome is a perfect gift for art lovers .... and young people who you'd like to become art appreciators!

5 comments about Stuff on My Cat Daily 2007 Daily Calendar.

  1. Stuff + Cats may indeed = Awesome, but a monthly calendar with the same cat pictures day after day can get tedious. The daily calendar is much better! My only complaint is the occasional low-quality graphics.

  2. Such a hoot every day to come in and pull the page off the calendar. It is the best calendar i have ever owned. This is going to be next year's xmas gift to every cat lover i know :)

  3. I got this calendar for my boyfriend for christmas. He has it on his desk at work and it each day a new cat cracks him up. Definately a good buy!

  4. Hilarious- gave it to my mom for xmas- she loved it. I may get the book version for myself- it would cheer me up any time.

  5. I have a cat and it's everyone's favorite game to put stuff on him. So this calendar was a natural fit as a gift. What could be more entertaining than seeing a different cat with stuff on it every day of the year?!

2 comments about Every Cat Has A Story: True Stories Exploring the Spiritual Connection of Felines with Their Beloved Owners.

  1. I wrote the story in this book about the cat whose leg was broken by a subhuman neighbor and how we got it fixed. I'm so glad I was able to take that heart-rending experience and make it into a cautionary tale. Keep an eye on your loved ones at all times, no matter if they walk on two legs or four.

  2. Such a pleasure to read, even if you're not into cats in a big way. The stories are so moving, so entertaining, and so real! I know of about two dozen people who own this book, their overwhelming comments all being similar, about seven of these people not being particularily cat lovers either.
    Comments such as:
I just couldn't leave the book alone until I had finished it,
took it to bed every night until I did, made me cry, it was just so moving!
Felt like you were there with each incident, it was written so well.
One of my friends even commented that she wished she was into cats more than she is, as this book shows so much love and affection to owners and their cats.

5 comments about Housecat: How to Keep Your Indoor Cat Sane and Sound.

  1. I found this book easy to read and informative. "Housecat" covers every aspect of life with indoor cats, as well as health issues faced at some time by everyone with cats in their daily lives. It gives you solutions for problems you never knew you had!! Now if only I could get my cats to read it!!!

  2. An experienced and gifted writer shares her very thought out & comprehensive "Step by step" book on how to keep your feline happy in the house! This information is coming from someone who has delt with this situation. I've seen it "FIRST HAND" and know that this book is based on experience and truth!

  3. Because I am an experienced foster feline home, I read every cat care book available.I am not a vet so I need precise, yet relatively short info on many cat care topics. This book is good for the new adopter or cat care-giver who don't read or have accesss to real, in-depth publications. The paragrahs are specific, interesting and easy to read.I love this book and found that my cat adopters feel this is the first and best book to have.It is in the center of my library.Sometimes it is hard to find but I encourage my new (and even experienced owners) to read.It says it all- and simply!

  4. I quite agree with the author - a cat should be kept inside. This is a MUST READ for any cat owner who TRULY loves their cat and puts feline welfare above their own. My own cat, Mrs. DiddyWampusnoodles of Pemblokington, a Registered Persian "vision" in light smoky gray, would NEVER be happy outdoors with those flea-invested rat-eating mongrel cats you find residing in the alleys and by-ways of lower class people who cannot even afford to clothe their pets in a proper manner.
The chapter on providing a stimulating cat-friendly environment is very good, although the author could have provided information on CUSTOM-made cat sofas and divans which are available from several fine craftsmen and well worth the $800 or $900. I replace DiddyWam's every other year when I redecorate her room, to ensure that her furniture "fits" the décor chosen by the Feline Interior Design Artist.
I myself would never attempt to trim DiddyWam's claws - I leave that to her personal hygienist, but I suppose if one were living in a remote area with no feline hygienists available, this would be useful information.

Overall this would be an excellent beginner's book for those who have just discovered the joys of existing with felines, and who wish to prevent their precious baby from mingling with inferior cats such as those found outside one's home.

  5. This book answered many questions I had (& ones I hadn't even thought of yet).

I am a first-time kitten owner, for lack of a better word. ("Owner" is not PC, I know.)

Having also purchased at least 5 other cat behavior/care books, I was happily surprised to find a different approach in Christine Church's HOUSECAT. She goes into detail on many subjects dealing with living with and nurturing your housecats, yet her style of writing is not dry. She writes in an easily understood, matter-of-fact manner that covered everything that I wondered and worried about, my being new to housecats. Just one example: she covers the different types of cat litter on the market, explaining what the merits & disadvantages are of each. Being new to all this, litter box filler can be confusing without some specific info and opinions about all the choices that exist, and she sufficiently covered it for me.

Her manner is that of an experienced cat person, having 11 herself (at the time she wrote the book), and this can be a refreshing contrast to that of a vet. (Books by vets are aboundingly helpful, but after purchasing more than a handful of them, I was interested in checking out a different perspective.) Also, having had as many cats as she has, she has diverse experience, such as living with blind and elderly cats.

Occasionally, you might not agree with an opinion or two of hers, as with anyone, but anyone with a cat (or cats) of their own can probably sort out the few ideas that don't work for them. This book is worth the sorting-out.

5 comments about KISS Guide to Cat Care.

  1. I generally like the DK series, so I thought this one would be good. But there were some serious inaccuracies here. The one that bothered me most was the photo of a kitten tangled in string, titled "if you provide your cats with enough stimulation . . ." Many cat books warn against letting cats play with string or thead as it can cause serious damage passing through the intestines if swallowed. After having to cut a cat free from a big tangle of string, I am careful not to leave it around anymore. In general the book had some good information, but not much of it. I'm finding Think Like a Cat by Pam Johnson-Bennett much more useful. It isn't full of cute pictures, just good information.

  2. Hi. I wanted to thank the reviewers for taking the time to read my book. Thanks for all those stars!

Regarding the lone criticism regarding the lack of a section on pregnancy, let me say that both I and the publisher decided not to cover the topic, for one very good reason: we did not want to help add to the already burgeoning cat population. Why would I want to coach people on how to care for the pregnant cat? That amounts to tacit approval of in-home breeding, the main cause of millions of cat euthanasias every year. Millions of pets killed because someone wouldn't spay or neuter, or at least keep the cat indoors. On that note, why would anyone actually have a pregnant cat in the home (besides a professional breeder, that is)? Having an unneutered cat in the home (and presumably wandering the neighborhood) is irresponsible, and cruel. The days of farm ratters are over; to continue to allow cats to mate willy-nilly only serves to increase the misery. Been to a cat shelter lately?

Before pretending to be an authority on cats (as any competent reviewer should be), one should first have the common sense to spay or neuter, don't you think? How else can we take your sage opinions seriously?

  3. I got a little black kitten a few months ago. This being my first cat, I decided to purchase a book that would help me take care of him. I am not sure how I came across this book, but I found it and bought it. I was more than surprised to find that my favorite actor did the forward. This book was very helpful in raising Azrael Walken-Serrine to the healthy cat he is today.

  4. I see that other reviewers loved this book, but I have to admit that I was disappointed. My cat recently had kittens, and this book was no help at all. It has no section on pregnancy, only a very small section on breeding your cat for profit. Well, this was purely accidental, but I still wanted some help on caring for her during her pregnancy and labor, as well as some tips on caring for the kittens. It doesn't have anything like a section on kitten developmental stages. When do they eat solid food? When can I separate them from their mother? When should I get her fixed so we don't do this again? It also didn't have much on caring for sick or injured cats. What it did have, and I really didn't need, was a section on teaching your cat tricks. Hello! She's a cat, not a dog. I don't really need to teach her tricks. Of course, if you are interested, then this book may help. But it didn't have what I was looking for at all.

  5. I am a new cat owner. I have never had pets before so I have purchased several cat books recently, the Illustrated Cat book and Cats for Dummies. Both were good books but KISS Cat Care offered the best combination of pictures and information, perfect for the new cat owner. The best things about this book were that it included references to websites and offered great tips on training. I definately recommend this book.
