5 comments about The Red Cat Cookbook: 125 Recipes from New York City's Favorite Neighborhood Restaurant.
- I was very pleased with the service and the book
came to me in excellant condition
- Neighborhood restaurants are always a favorite! Warm, friendly, inviting, and great food! The Italian-American foods are delish! If you want more pesto recipes, add Mary El-Baz's "Simply Elegant and Easy Pesto" to your bookshelf. There's a fantastic pesto made with pepperoncini that's just scrumptious on roast-beef or salami sandwiches!
- Wonderful book, and easy to use for an average cook. Great food.
- If you're not in the neighborhood to enjoy the gourmet meals at the Red Cat resaurant, this cookbook is the next best alternative. Beautiful photographs and fresh writing make it a joy to peruse. The directions are clear and encouraging to even a novice cook like me. This is the only cookbook I own that I actually read from cover to cover. Try the green beans tempura--you'll be hooked forever. And if you're in NYC, the Red Cat is worth going out of your way for.
- My first thought on seeing this book was 'where ever can I find some red cats to cook?' But of course that's not what the book is about. It turns out that The Red Cat is a restaurant in Manhattan. Yet this is not a typical restaurant menu cookbook.
This is a cookbook that takes a lot of food tastes, primarily from the Eastern seaboard (think clam chowder), and Europe (think France, Italy, Germany) and presents them is a clear and easy to understand manner. Although it is not that big a book, it is abook that covers all aspects of a meal from finger foods at the start to home made ice creams at the end.
While a lot of the recipies have a down home simple aspect about them, many of them add higher end ingredients (lobster) and some very tasty sauces.

5 comments about Chicken Soup for the Cat & Dog Lover's Soul: Celebrating Pets as Family with Stories About Cats, Dogs and Other Critters.
- Chicken soup for the cat and dog lovers soul is a wonderful book that warms my heart and gives me a happy feeling reading thru the stories and the love people feel for there pets. When I recently lost my beloved siamese cat it helped me to feel better about my "furry baby" passing over the rainbow bridge because I knew he had a wonderful life and he knew he was cherished. All the books in the chicken soup series are very uplifting and spirtual and make people smile, I highly recommend them.
- I have bought many books from this series and found this one to be my favorite. This book is a must for the animal lover. I will read a few stories before bed every night. Some stories bring tears to my eyes and others make me simle from ear to ear. Great book that people of any age will love!!
- My 10 year-old son tried reading it,and thought the stories were too sad, but I adore this book. Very sweet, humbling stories about good people and good animals.
- In this volume, Mr. Canfield and crew have compiled a smorgasboard selection of short stories about pets who fortify us and make life bearable. Especially poignant to me was "the medicine cat" as I, too, had one named Tosca. She gave up the ghost a few months ago at the age of eighteen years, as I had no way to get to her when she needed support of the kind she gave to me several years ago. They recognize the special love and devotion of animals to bless our hearts and homes.
"Cat lovers will tell you that felines are 'poetry in motion,' living sculptures at rest, and that the warm weight of a purring cat...is a surefire cure for all that ails you."
It is the physical acts of love to bring the gift of life as expressed in "The Healing Touch." I cried as I read "The Language of the Heart" about an unusual rabbit and his healing the hurt of a little girl who'd turned inward and no longer could talk. Something had died in that child which this loving rabbit cured. His innocence and trust had rekindled the same qualities in the child. The loving presence of an animal can heal where words have no effect. Alas, Roger Rabbit bit the tip off my little finger one day, which led me to the ER for a Saran-wrap bandage (to stop the bleeding -- a bandaid wouldn't work) and a tetanus shot. Needless to say, I found him another home.
"A small gesture -- the insistent tap of a cat's paw" about Jack, an adopted stray kitten (like Dante in Troy, Alabama), who grew into Ellen's savior. He woke her from a daydream of tragedy; Star woke me up with that same gesture over and over so that I would not strangle from Acid Reflux. Pets do love and care for their owners. This volume is one I will treasure for years to come. It is full of memories about pet owners' animals, not just cats and dogs.
- I really enjoyed this book. The main reason I liked it is because it is all about cats and dogs, and I am a hardcore animal lover. Another reason I liked it is because the stories are not made up in someone's mind. These stories are real stories that real people lived through. The last reason I liked this book so much is because you don't have to read it like an ordinary book. You can read it like I did and just jump around to stories that sound good to you, instead of reading the book cover to cover.

5 comments about Raw Meaty Bones Promote Health (P).
- Vets are good for medical stuff. I use them for drawing blood, running blood tests and prescribing medication when needed. Other than that, I would disregard anything a regular vet has to say about both animal nutrition and animal psychology*. Vets are brainwashed by these food companies when they are in vet school to push their unhealthy (but profitable) foods. There is a reason this author had to fight so hard to get his ideas out there.
Dogs survived thousands of years without bagged kibble, doing guess what? Eating Raw Meaty Bones. This book is such an eye-opener to something that should really be just simple common sense. Dogs are meant to eat MEAT, not corn meal, wheat or high-fructose corn syrup. Cats need meat even more so.
The DAY we changed our dogs over to eating Raw Meaty Bones, we noticed an astonishing difference. They are healthier and happier because they are doing what dogs should do!
READ this book, take the little bit of extra time to FOLLOW it and you will be rewarded 1000x over by your animals.
*My husband has been involved in animal training for years and follows something close to Cesar Millan's approach. So as far as dog psychology goes, if you can't hire my husband, read Cesar's book and watch the Dog Whisperer!!
- This book is a helpful guide for those discussing a RAW diet with their vet. Lonsdale provides an in depth account of what he's seen as a doctor of veterinary medicine. The book was much easier to read than some other books related to this topic. We used this book as a companion when discussing our dogs' health with our veterinarian. She found the information useful and I believe that is a compliment to the book. If not for making the choice to switch to RAW, it will have you asking your vet more questions about your pet's healthcare.
- I just wanted to take a second to write a little review. No not one of those big reviews that yells "give me all the attention, I'm the best reviewer out here!"
But a lil small review that covers some of the things some people have spoken about and what not.
First some say this book seemingly is all about the author, Tom Londsdale. Ok, the forward, preface, and even chapter 1 is about him and the industry, but then he goes in to great detail about dental care, how artificial dog foods damage the teeth and so forth and so forth.
Some say it's hard to follow, well, I'll admit at times it is. It's a book of detailed reasons of why to go on the raw diet. It's not a recipe book, it's a good book to give you an idea about the raw diet, and frankly for the raw diet you dont need a recipe book! What's so hard about giving a raw chicken?
So I give this 4 stars, because it is a good book, however it can be a bit boring at times.
I just ordered "give your dog a bone" how I look forward to reading that!
- For those who have more time to read about raw feeding, this is your book. Dr. Lonsdale's book "Work Wonders" (in my previous review) is great for shorter reading. Since I have owned dogs all my life, I have also lost many to cancer and other related illnesses. With my new dog, I am trying raw feeding and reading all that I can about it. It's different and takes time getting the right diet and what agrees with her. I believe in being open minded, and this book really opens the mind.
- This book was highly recommended as I began my search for evidence based information on raw feeding. As a veterinarian I found the book to be sorely lacking in solid, useful information and instead found much of the same hype and extreme thought that usually turns people off of raw feeding. I wanted to learn more objectively how raw truly promotes health but instead had to read page after page about how ignorant many vets are with regard to pet nutrition and how the pet food companies all want to kill our pets and profit from it. While both of those thoughts may or may not be true, this was not the reason I chose this book. I thought a book written by an alternative minded veterinarian would help me learn the benefits of raw feeding for clients. This book did not help me begin to learn raw feeding for my own pets, let alone clients.

5 comments about Why Cats Do That: A Collection of Curious Kitty Quirks.
- There's about five books with the title "Why Cats Do That" or close variations thereon, as well as a yearly calendar, to say nothing of the many books on the same theme with other titles. A testimony to the number of things cats do that make one wonder, "why?"
This book is whimsical in both writing style and its answers, and delightful on that level. The answers are sometimes simply more questions, or musing on the question and coming up with contradictory answers. There are at times references to statistics like how many hours out of the day cats sleep, or to scientific things like the "Flehman response," or to unnamed "cat experts." If studies and footnotes and a bibliography are what you're looking for, then the reader will be frustrated. If you're happy to go from wondering to wonderment, then it's more likely you'll find the book charming.
The black and white pen & ink illustrations included in the book, like the one on the cover, are cute and nicely done. The book itself is nicely bound as well, all traits that make it good light reading for a coffee table, or as a gift.
- I love this book. It may be kinda basic but very interesting and informative. Now I can tell their mood and thoughts.
- This book was very reader friendly and would be great for someone that doesnt know alot about cats. Its short and basic. There is a chapter on why cats hiss and the authur advised that cats hissed because they were trying to sounds like a snake since most animals fear snakes. Thats alittle hard to belive... thats like saying dogs growl because theyre trying to sounds like a bear or something. Dont buy that to much but the rest of the book was good.
- The title describes how we used the book. We ordered several for friends and relatives that we knew had and loved cats. They all enjoyed the book.
- This great little book will make a wonderful gift for any cat lover! It provides answers to those little nagging questions that cat lovers have - like why do cats purr and where does that purr come from anyway. It is a small book, well written, and a treasure for the price.

5 comments about Uncle John's Bathroom Reader Cat Lover's Companion (Uncle John's Bathroom Reader).
- You should know that it's a *much* smaller book than the "normal" Uncle Johns' books. It's got plenty to read in it and great stories, though. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it for cat-lovers! Hard-cover makes it an even nicer gift, and at the price you can't beat it. Rock on, Uncle John! s:)
- this is a fun book, especially for people familiar with the ways of cats. I'm not sure that the term "bathroom read" is necessary.
- A great book for cat lovers! It has interesting stories and cat facts
that make for a great read.
- this book, like all the uncle johns' books is another success, more so if you are a cat lover. i recommend it to all!
- I've enjoyed the other Uncle John's Bathroom Readers and this one made a wonderful gift for my cat-loving mother! I've enjoyed browsing through it in her, um, facilities, and I find the stories fascinating. Great literature it isn't, but it is perfect for those who love cats and only have a few minutes at a time to read!

5 comments about The Kitty Treats Cookbook.
- This is a great book for those trying to start their own business and have captured Cat Lover's as clients. The recipes are simple and come with a fish shaped cookie cutter.
- I was surprised this book was like a childrens book. The one with cardboard thick pages. So it did not contain many recipes. However, the treat cookie cutter was cool.
- This book is the only one most anyone would need if they want to make some homemade cat treats. It has straightforward, fairly easy recipes with ingredients that are easily found in any grocery store. The book is colorful and attractive. The little fish-shaped cookie cutter is adorable. (You have to break each treat into two or three pieces before giving them to your cat.) I plan to give some of these homemade goodies to all the cats in my family next Christmas.
- Okay - so there are a few recipe books out there for cats and most have many many more recipes. So after going to Border's myself and decided to choose this one mainly for these reasons...
1. It is a boardbook and I like boardbooks in the kitchen. Easy to clean and wipe down.
2. Every ingredient is already in your house or you get it at any grocery store. Nothing expensive either. The only thing I needed to purchase that I don't normally do is some liver for the one recipe.
3. The cookie cutter!! Not every recipe can use it and even for the ones you can, you don't have to. But it is nice to do with kids and especially nice to make them for gifts to other cat lovers. Oh and for the holidays, you can use other cookie cutters or even use food coloring for green and red. We made great little baskets for a few friends with felines. What a hit!
4. The recipes are easy easy easy! It isn't a whole hassle to make these snacks. Takes no time at all. And really, how many cat recipes are you really going to make over a lifetime? I don't see any need for a treat book with 100+ recipes that are too time consuming and expensive to make - oh and boring to look at. The 12 or so that are in this book are plenty for us and it is always fun looking at the great pics.
5. My main reason though is that my daughter who is 5 loves to help and it is simple, easy for her to read, she can't rip it or destroy it. I personally think these are great gifts to give for kids. We gave the dog recipe book, which is very similar, to her little friend with 2 dogs and she LOVED it. Great for kids 5-12yrs old.
6. The most important reason is that my 2 cats LOVE THEM!!
- This book contains very basic recipes with ingredients that can be found in any food store around the country. Directions were very clear and since the book is coated, it's very easy to clean. I would recommend this book.

5 comments about Smitten: A Kitten's Guide to Happiness.
- An absolute fabulous book. The pictures are amazing and the words are uplifting. A must for every cat lover!
- I got this book for myself and my daughter immediately fell in love with it and walked off with that copy but I like it so much that I bought another copy for myself that I will hide. This is a wonderful book; the pictures and the captions are incredible. A must-have for anyone that loves cats or even remotely likes kittens or cats.
- This book is one that you can flip through again and again. Not only are the kittens absolutely adorable to look at, but the photographs are so well done that it's impossible NOT acknowledge how talented Rachael Hale is. It is sure to make a great gift for anyone and everyone, no matter what the occasion is. With those precious little kitties captured in the cutest of moments, paired along with fantastic quotes leading you towards a happier life, how can you go wrong?
- -- Absolutely irresistible.
I bought this on a whim through a book club offer and am so happy I did. It is soooo wonderful. The photos aren't just *cute* but also well-shot. They have an artistic bent -- not just another cute kitties book -- and are very uplifting. The author pairs heart-melting photographs of kittens (mostly 6 weeks old) with day-brightening quotes from various authors and philosophers.
For some reason, looking at their happy little furry faces never gets old, and never fails to put a smile on my face. This is a wonderful book to get and to share with the other animal lovers in your life. :-)
- This is a delightful coffeetable book, perfect for moments of reflection. Who can resist adorable kitten photos? Paired with philosophical quotations to lift and inspire, soothe and console, it's a heartwarming book for many moods and serves as a reminder that we should slow down and take notice of the little joys in life.
