1. I've been waiting anxiously for a book on herbs and nutritional supplements that has some science behind it. It seems like most of authors just quote each other. This one actually looks at the evidence for these supplements, and in doing so, blazes new territory in alternative veterinary medicine. I think it's a highly useful reference for veterinarians and dog owners alike!

This thin volume is intended as an introduction to herbs and nutraceuticals for veterinary professionals who are interested in incorporating some alternative treatment methods into their small animal practice. Dr. Wynn begins with the basic philosophy of holistic medicine and explains how to do a holistic evaluation. She then provides basic sample treatment protocols using herbs and nutraceuticals for a variety of ailments. She tends to err on the conservative side, not recommending, for instance, alternative treatments for heartworm disease although alternative heartworm treatments are available and often effective.

   The most interesting parts of the book are the two materia medicas: one for nutraceutical supplements and one for herbs. While not very comprehensive, it's nice to have fully referenced material available in an area where there are many unsubstantiated claims. Each entry in the materia medica describes the supplement's actions, use, contraindications, potential adverse effects, and dosage.
   All in all, a nonessential but nice addition to the library of the holistic animal health professional or the veterinary practitioner seeking to incorporate some alternative treatment methods.

1. This book is the best book for quickly informing on cat traits and cat care. Many useful observations such as "Love is knowing that when I flop on one side at your feet I'm saying "Play with me"". Lots of tidbits like this to educate new cat owners and even old cat owners! Such as "Love is knowing that when I stick my rump in your face, I'm just being sub misssive not trying to seduce you."
   
   The format is cute images and single statements on each page so it is quick to read. Young readers can learn from it. It also informs the reader of clues to watch for to recognize a cat is sick and what objects are dangerous to cats.
   
   This book should be given to every new cat owner.

1. Louis Wain's story will tug at your heart strings and make you laugh and weep but you'll never forget this courageous artist. He battled mental illness and a stint in the horrendous Bedlam Asylum yet produced zillions of cat pictures that bedazzled the British and thrilled the Americans. 1. Women & Cats combines quotes from many people through the centuries with wonderful pictures and drawings to make for a delightful read. I enjoyed the book because of the pleasing mix of art and words. A must have for anyone who loves cats.



2. I used this book for a gift to a dear friend who is a cat lover and is going through agonies from arthritis. She is enjoying reading and having some escape from her challenges.
