4 comments about Living with Dickens.

  1. Truly gorgeous photography in this book, and his depiction of the temperament, personality and intelligence of Abyssinian cats is so true! So many photos in the book and descriptions of behavior mirrored life with my own Abyssinian cat. The story of how living with Dickens gave such entertainment and pleasure is absolutely charming.

Of course any cat lover will adore this book...but it will likely make many converts among those who think cats are just decorative bean bags, too! My photographer friend really appreciated the "Hurrell" portrait in the book as well as the composition and quality of the photos overall.

We "Aby people" have always said if Ferrari designed a cat, it would be this breed of cat. Wonderful book!

  2. Dear friends. After twelve and one half years of loving life, Dickens died this past April. Fortunately,he had only one sick day at the end. I'm lucky to have had this wonderful five star cat's company. I'm grateful that his charm lives on and that so many people got to know him through his book. Thank you. Tom Bianchi

  3. I collect cats books and this is absolutely the best! The black and white pictures are taken with superb skills and perspective. The text carries an elegant sense of humour. It is a complete visual entertainment for a cat lover.

  4. I picked up this book on a whim -- and am ever grateful I did! The pictures of Little Dickens make me not only want to take up photography, but buy an Abyssinian also.

How did he catch that shot of sweet little Dickens in mid sneeze, I can't help but wonder!

Buy this book if you need a pick-me-up, or know someone who does, it's like comfort food for the eyes. Even if you believe you are a "dog person," you won't be able to avoid being delighted by the candid images Tom Bianchi shares in this book.

1 comments about Muller & Kirk's Small Animal Dermatology.

  1. This book contains all the information a practitioner would need to practice high quality veterinary dermatology. However, it may be too advanced for many general practitioners who may want to look at more clinically minded books. This book is well referenced and the use of the references is accurate. When the experience of the authors is used it is clear to the reader. The most problamatic chapters have to do with the structure and function of skin, where the author tends to shift subjects and alternates the detail to which the subject is covered - sometimes in the same sentance!

1 comments about Cancer in Dogs & Cats: Medical & Surgical Management.

  1. I highly recommend this book for all veterinary students due to its thoroughness and most of all because it is current (or as current as one can be in the field of oncology). It reads well and provides a great number of well thought out illustrations and pictures.Plus, it highlights the major systems and neoplasms there of and covers most of the protocols for each cancer.

4 comments about How To Say It to Your Cat: Understanding and Communicating with Your Feline (How to Say It...).

  1. Finally! a book that explores feline health, behavior and feline/human communication with intelligence, sensitivity and humor. I initially purchased the book searching for practical solutions to some behavioral problems we were experiencing with our family cat (they actually worked!) but learned much more about what our cat was trying to tell us in the process. The format makes the material incredibly accessible, and the quality of information makes this book a must-have resource for both the experienced and novice cat owner alike. It also makes a perfect gift for friends welcoming a new cat into their lives.

  2. Practical, fun, and perceptive, Janine Adams' contribution to the "How to Say It" books is an invaluable resource for cat lovers everywhere. This book is chock-full of practical advice, invaluable resources and straight-forward descriptions, all in a delightful format. I particularly appreciate Ms. Adams' holistic, positive and caring approach - it is obvious that she loves and understand cats. 4 paws up!

  3. This book is full of valuable information and advice about understanding your cat. Each complete, yet short chapter covers a different issue or problem, with ideas on what your cat is trying to tell you, how you can best deal with the situation, and what problems and pitfalls to avoid.

There are more than 50 chapters to help you understand just about anything you might face with your cat. From litter box problems, to grooming, to hairballs, it's all covered! Adams offers great insights and a variety of options to solve problems and prevent them in the first place. Her advice is cat-friendly and helps you strengthen the bond with your favorite feline.

I've had cats my whole life, and this book is my new favorite resource when I have a question or concern about my two current cats. It's also a great book for the person new to cats. I have two copies -- one to loan out, and one to have on hand when I have a question myself.

  4. Not content to put words in cat's mouths, pet psychic-style, she introduces the lunacy of Bach flower remedies and the nonsense of Tellington Touch (what you and I call "petting) to compound a worthless book.

"How to Talk to Your Cat" by Jean Craighead George is more reliable. Or even Roger Caras' "A Cat is Watching"

If you want reliable information in this format try "100 Questions Your Cat Would Ask Its Vet" by Bruce Fogle.

5 comments about Guide to Owning a Scottish Fold Cat.

  1. As other reviewers have noted, this book has lovely pictures of scottish fold kitties. However, most of the text is general information on cat care. (Grooming, feeding, vet care, showing, etc.)
What I was hoping for was information on how to find these rather rare cats, how much to expect to pay, and how, if any, their care differs from other cats. There was precious little of that.

  2. This book with its glossy print pages and laminate photo pages gives comprehensive information in very readable format to those who might own or would like to learn more about the Scottish Fold breed. The photos are numerous so that the breed with its different colorations, longhair or shorthair, as well as ear differences are well represented. Topics covered range from the history of the breed to kitten selection, bedding, health requirements and even showing your Scottish Fold. The readable format and beautiful pictures make this book informative and enjoyable for adults who want more information on the breed as well as families who want to share this book among adults and children. A delightful and extremely well done book!

  4. This is a really great book, full of the most beautiful pictures of Scottish Fold cats. I enjoyed this book because it covers all aspects of owning a Scottish Fold from their history through to showing. My only complaint (which is why I gave this book 4 instead of 5 stars), is that the information is in places a little brief, however this is a well priced book for any budget. I thoughly enjoyed all of the 35+ photos included in this book which show many of the different colour varieties as well as the longhaired varity. I think that anyone considering the purchase of a Scottish Fold cat, should also consider adding this book to their library.

  5. This book had some of the best pictures I have seen of Scottish Folds. The text was informative and educational but it is the photos which catch your eye. They are done with a high gloss finish and are really beautiful. The book contains information on basic care only and touches only lightly on some topics.

If you are seriously interested in the Scottish Fold, cat there are other books which would provide more information, however, if you just want to admire the beauty of the breed, I highly recommend this book. In paperback, it is not expensive and the photos are as nice as the hardcover version.
