5 comments about Cat Magic: Mews, Myths, and Mystery.
- This is another great book for the cat lover, it's has cat myth, history from all over the world, with lot's of great art pictures and just good old cat information, it's a fun book!
- It is a little, nice book about the lovely creatures. It is easy to read, but nothing to do with real magic. The title of the book is more or less commercial.
- I couldn't wait to get this book in the mail. It sounded like a great book, and I read it the night I got it. I enjoyed the stories of cats, and the astrological part on cats. I found that there wasn't enough material to practically apply in today's age with one's own cat. The histories presented did not flow, they jumped around in era and subject, sometimes feeling like the same ground was being covered twice. Although I enjoyed the astrology part, it was rather trite. The most frustrating part of the book is the lack of information on the pictures featured. There are some truly fascinating, fabulous pictures in this book, most lacking any explanation or reference. I found that to be very distracting and a big let down. I hope for a revision in the future, as a book like this, done properly, is needed.
- I just bought this book, and haven't read all the way through it
yet,but I'm still giving it 5 stars because there is a lot of
great info and mythology on cats. And the pictures are really great too.If someone is looking for aa book to buy for a cat lover, this is one book that is totally worth the money.
- This book will make a great gift for any cat lover, whether Pagan or not. The book is filled with fun folklore and history about cats. There are legends and beliefs from all over the world! These include cats roles in spirituality, superstitions, gypsies, dreams, symbols, and even a little section on the astrology of your cat. There is also brief information on cat care. The layout of the book is GORGEOUS with photographs or illustrations on every page. The book is made of high quality paper as well! This book is as gorgeous as it is informative and entertaining and I give it an enthusiastic 5 stars! A must have for cat mommies!

5 comments about Cats on the Counter: Therapy and Training for Your Cat.
- Cats on the Counter takes a serious approach to Cat Therapy. There are many topics discussed here that many a cat owner will want to read about and find how these 'cat psychologists' helped fix problematic or 'bad behaviour' of many a house cat.
If you never owned a cat before this book would be very insightful, but not as an end-all to any confusion or problem you are having with your cat. If you ARE a long-time cat owner, there are just a few gems here and after quickly reading the book you may set it down and decide like I did, that you really didn't find any amazing revelations... Or you may decide that you've become paranoid with worry over something they say in the book which is quite normal behavior for a cat and they just don't seem to get that across. Read it? Yes. Believe it all?? No.
- Finally, a book that acknowledges and addresses the most common of all cat problems, especially in multiple-feline households: Tabitha's (and Sylvester's and Eliot's) "uncivilized" avoidance of the litter box. The author addresses both physical and psychological problems (both the cats' and owners') and gives much helpful advice (put tin foil over the scene of the crime, spray it with citrus scents, put Cleopatra's food dish close by (since's she's far too civilized to want her dining table next to the "men's room"), and address Morris' attacks of anxiety with generous doses of reassuring countermeasures.
Admittedly, much of the information I had sort of intuited. But this is no novelty book about problems that to cat lovers are no laughing matter. It's both eminently readable and practical. I only wish I'd had a copy earlier to give to a friend who brought his adorable little stray to the pound when she began soiling his carpet.
- I bought this book because I was having some problems with my cat.I ended up learning more about myself. There isnt anything I can put in this review that people have not already said.If you want to learn more about your feline, and a little about what makes you both tick then purchase this book. You wont be sorry..
- A well organized book that explains what is going through your cat's mind. Too often we believe that the cats in our lives think the same way we do and this book has a great way of getting the humans to think like their cats. I currently share my home with two Russian Blue kittens and this book has explained most of their antics. It also helped solve a problem that was frustrating them and me. Get the book, your cat will thank you.
- I have already bought extra copies of this wonderful book for pet lovers I care about. Dr. Lachman covers every possible scenerio and explains in understandable language, ways to correct every day problems as well as unusual problems. His sense of humor makes the book "reader friendly" and his background in clinical psychology adds a different dimension, involving the whole family. Both Dr. Lachman and journalist, Frank Mickadeit, have successfully put together a delightful teaching guide for cat owners, from the novice to the pro.

1 comments about Cats Are Purr-fect.
- As an unabashed fan of Walker and co-writer Frances Mooney's books, I won't mince words -- this book is pure fun for cat lovers. RUN AND BUY IT! In the style of THE CATS' HOUSE and subsequent offerings, CATS ARE PURR-FECT continues the colorful, original photos, fun graphics, and personal accounts of the Walker/Mooney household's feline (and canine) residents. Be forewarned: These books are addictive! They make wonderful gifts for cat-loving friends and relatives, and great coffee-table conversation pieces.

5 comments about The Mediterranean Cat.
- All of Hans Silvester's photography books of cats, dogs & kittens in the Greek Cyclades Islands are lovely examples of fine photography. As a fine art photographer myself, I respect Mr. Silvester's level of skill and artistry, and I find his other books very beautiful.
However, when I first became aware of his books about cats and dogs, I was thoroughly dismayed by his choice of subject matter and the way he has chosen to portray the lives of these creatures as idyllic and carefree. Having been to these Greek islands, I have learned firsthand that the large majority of these poor animals are ignored, injured, or mistreated by people there-anything but "respected." The photographer has omitted portraits of the true conditions for most of the stray dogs and cats in Greece-crippled, starving, dying of thirst, hurt or maimed, with the humans around them barely taking notice. The full horror of the story was later revealed to me by locals on the islands. Each year, the cats & dogs are allowed to breed uncontrolled, because tourists are fond of seeing the cute animals around town and on the beaches. At the end of each tourist season, as many of them as possible are rounded up and killed (I couldn't bear to learn exactly how), until the following year when the ones that survived begin the cycle all over again. I found this same story on all the islands I visited, including Mykonos, and I was so appalled that I shortened by stay and left Greece altogether. The situation is a tragedy, and my feeling as a photographer and animal lover, is that Mr. Silvester should not be misrepresenting the condition of the cats and dogs on these Greek islands, especially when it is for monetary gain. I hope animal lovers around the world will agree, and send a message to anyone who profits in any way from the suffering of these dogs and cats in the sun.
- You don't have to like cats to adore these creatures, although if you do, you will fall immediately in love. Hans Silvester is a master at his craft and this book showcases his artistry to the nth degree. The contrast of the neutral colored fur of the felines and the pastel washes of the building backdrops, tie together in a flash of eyecolor that makes for breathtaking images.
Silvester's use of lighting, color, camera angles - and obvious patience - illuminates the personalities of this secret society. The photographs make one feel like an anthropologist eavesdropping unseen on their world. This volume will satisfy those who admire cats, art, photography, the Mediterranean, architecture; or those who simply like to escape to a new world for a time.
- I love the Mediterranean Cat. It continues this photographer's outstanding work already known from "Cats in the Sun". I have traveled to Greece many times and Silvester manages to show this country's eternal connection between the cats, the light, and the colors that I, too, have found so irresistable. Another reason I love Silvester's books is how he is able to avoid stereotype cat pictures. I love cats, but I hate how photographs usually show cats in "cute" situations. Silvester's cats are grown-up, independent, strong. Not much "cute" here, but a lot of respect, admiration and understanding for these beautiful animals. A tip: Also try "Cats in the Sun" - I find it even better than the Mediterranean Cat...
- Silvester is the ultimate cat photographer, combining almost breath-taking feline images with the mystique of the Greek isles. His mastery of color, texture, balance and line results in not only soul-satisfying photography but also great art.
After a year with his "Cats in the Sun" calendar, I'm looking for the year 2000 edition. Does it exist?
- Cat-lovers and photography buffs alike will love this elegant book. Hans Silvester truly captures the simple classical beauty of the Mediterranean and the essence of the cat spirit in his book. In candid format, Silvester's photographs capture the daily lives, at times harsh, at times idealic, of the ubiquitous cats of the Mediterranean. My copy will be prominantly displayed on my coffee table.
