2. I first noticed this little book in a bookstore when I happened to read the blurb on the back cover by Doris Day: "a book reminding us of the wonderful bond between humans and animals" When I opened it, I knew why.

   Julia Miles has the eye of a photographer and the heart of a poet. She has composed prose poems in light and shadow and shade to my favorite creatures, the cats.

   My favorite photo in the collection, apart from the stunning dual-cat cover, is of two cats, each drooped over each other, headlined by Virginia Woolf: "incessant company is as bad as solitary confinement." Cats and poets can teach us things.

   The book is a treasure trove of quotations and philosophical quips for everyday care of the soul, as well as for appreciation of felines. "I can resist everything but temptation" was surely meant for catdom: the photo in question is of a tiger cat-as-stealth-machine-stealing-up-on-a-piece-of-rug, besieging a piece of oriental carpet, mottled after mottled.

   Cats are friends, foes (in play), funny, and enigmatic. Most of all, cats are curious (when they're not bored). In fact, cats are most cats when they're absolutely contradictory from one moment to the next. But then, inconsistencies are the "hobgoblins of little minds," as the poets remind us.

   Take your mind and imagination out for a stroll by buying this book. It's also a great gift book - for yourself, family, friends, coworkers, for anyone you know, even if they don't like cats (tell them it's a "humor" book).

   I should add that I didn't read the very moving introduction until after I'd completely looked through the photos and smiles and words in the text. The fact that Ms. Miles' kittens were rescued from a sure death makes the book even richer and deeper. "Cat Muses" speaks straight to the heart as well as the eye.




3. What a wonderful book for all ages. My daughter loves looking at the beautiful photographs over and over again. The quotes magicallly match the expressive cat faces. This book is a great gift for anyone (including themselves) who admire cats and great quotes.



4. All cat lovers will love this book. The beautiful black and white photos of the cats along with the meaningful quotes are so appropriate. It really touches the heart. I've given the book as a gift to my cat loving friends, and they all enjoyed it. It's also great that the proceeds go to help the Wash DC Humane Society.



5. For anyone who has ever been "owned" by a cat. . . a charming collection of photos and quotes sure to please.
   A great gift item for cat-lovers everywhere!

1. The 365 Cats Page-A-Day Calendar for 2004 was a favorite of my family: large format excellent photographs in a sturdy holder. Everything about the 2005 version says cheap and minimal production cost: small low quality photos in a flimsy holder with text instead of cativating photos. Who wants to read a lot of useless text on a cat calendar? Where are the charming photos?

2. Last year I got 2004's 365 Cats Page-a-day calendar as a Christmas present from someone I work with, and I love it so much that I just ordered the 2005 one for myself. The cats in the pictures are so lovely and cute. Even though my husband and I have five darling cats of our own, I still look forward to seeing what the cat of the day looks like. (Sometimes it's hard not to cheat and look ahead at the upcoming days.) If they're extremely cute, I'll leave them around in a place where my husband will see it when he wakes up in the morning. I highly recommend this for cat lovers!



3. This is an essential calendar for cat lovers. I have been using the cats page-a-day calendar since it was printed in black-and-white (and just got my 2005). It has and good mix of funny snapshots along with well-posed photographs of cats. Award winning photographs are presented at the beginning of the year and for each week. Each day offers some bit of good information, quotes, facts about cats or just the story behind the photograph. It is a calendar that I like to page through and I save the discarded days for use as scratch paper. The plastic base can be recycled at the end of the year. All cat lovers should have one.

2. My brother and I fell on the ground laughing hysterically at the illustrations and captions--although this was 9 years ago
   we still get a good laugh out of it. We almost got kicked out of the bookstore for disturbing the others.



3. As a life-long cat LOVER, I was suprised to find myself laughing hysterically at nearly every page in this book. The pictures and the light-hearted text are too cute and silly to be taken as malicious. The best advice - wait.



4. I got this book up at a used book store, I love it! It's hilarious, and I have to keep telling my mom not to let our siamese cat see it. It's one of my 3 books I always have on hand, and I read it all the time. My fave exits are turkey and microwave. Makes a good coffee table book, and a good gift, cat-lover or cat-hater. Just DON'T get any ideas! Have fun!

1. This is a great book. It's just like mary kate and ashley because sam spyed and the olsen twins like to "solve any crime by dinner time." Good book for garfield and mystery fans.
