4 comments about Ninth Garfield Treasury.
- I laughed a lot throughout The Ninth Garfield Treasury, but I wasn't completely satisfied with my purchase. Why? Well, as other reviewers have noted, the logos and very first little box in each strip is missing! This is a problem because I'm sure Jim Davis spends a lot of time thinking up these creative logos and I don't know if he's happy about them being cut out.
Other than that, The Ninth Garfield Treasury is a pretty good buy. I've always thought color was the best way to go with Garfield (check out the funny one that's half black-and-white and half color in this book!), and so I've been purchasing the Treasuries for that one reason. This book is noticeably a lot more bright than the previous few. Red, black, white, green, all sorts of colors show up in this book, and with good detail, too. I think Jim Davis is one of the most talented cartoonists ever (take that, Snoopy!), and his ability to make all his Garfield strips funny and cute (some quite heartwarming, too). I hope Garfield goes for another twenty years (or forty, or sixty!), because I find him constantly inspired. He rarely fails to make me laugh! Keep up the kicking, Garfield! If you like this book, I'd recommend Garfield Treasury, and The Tenth Garfield Treasury.
- The best yet. it is so funny and I don't just say that because I'm a die-hard garfield fan. it was very well written. I'm telling you if you like garfield you like this book.
- Get ready to laugh! This book is the best book of the treasuries!I like this book, because it has lots of color in it.And I agree, this book dosen't have logo boxes like the other books! The bad part of this book is that it is short. But I think Jim Davis should make the tenth treasury!
- The only thing I don't like about the Garfield Treasuries (the recent ones anyway) is that they don't show the Logo-boxes or Drop-panels (as shown as in the "mini-books") with the sunday comics! These things might not show up in all comics sections every week (just like some newspapers still have dailies in b/w) but they're still a major part of the strip and I'd love to see the colors of the logo and drop panels in the Tenth Garfield Treasury. Other than that, this is a great book and a must-have for any Garfield fan.

3 comments about Cats On Quilts.
- Having decided from the beginning that each quilt should have a cat on it somewhere, I ordered this book to see examples of how people in the past have represented cats on quilts. The liveliness of representation of cats is quite amazing, with many of the quilts managing to capture the way a cat looks and behaves - no mean feat, you only have to look at available cat fabrics to see how rare this is.
This is a small book, with each page containing detail from one quilt and I'd recommend it strongly to anyone interested in seeing in close-up detail how cats have been pictured on old quilts. I think it's a wonderful book.
- This is a FANTASTIC book. The quilts that the author chose to include are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and often display a wonderful sense of humor. (Take, for instance, the quilt which features blocks with the head and front paws of a kitty, and the disappearing hind end of a mouse escaping from the kitty.) The excerpts from different writings about cats are understated and thoughtful, and the author provides a great mini-history of textiles in America. This book moved me into high gear in my own quilting and is an ongoing source of keen pleasure. If you don't quilt, if you just like cats, you'll love the book because of its folk-art depictions of cats; if you like cats AND quilting, this book will make you feel like someone let you loose in the catnip patch.
- This sweet book would make a nice gift - it is full of whimsical and unusual examples of cat motifs on American country quilts. Many cat-related books are a bit saccharine for my taste but this is a refreshing and delightful change of pace

2 comments about Cat Naps: The Key to Contentment.
- This was a Christmas gift and I have browsed through it several times. Cat lovers probably have seen the real thing in each pose many times. Yet, we will still ooh and aah over these photos of cats and kittens sleeping in piles, singly, and wherever there is room enough for them to stretch out or curl up. Nothing shows relaxation like a cat. Each picture is highlighted with a poem or quote from a famous writer, such as "Loafing needs no explanation and is its own excuse," by Christopher Morley. Need an excuse for a nap? There are about 50 here.
- "Cat Naps: The Key to Contentment" is one of the darn cutest books a cat lover could hope to stumble across. It contains 54 images of adorable cats asleep in all kinds of places and positions. All the photos are beautifully shot. Each is accompanied by a quote related to sleep, relaxation, etc. Some of the quotes are actually cat-related, and others are applicable to life in general, but each quote fits perfectly with the picture it is matched with. One of my favorites is: "If there were to be a universal sound depicting peace, I would surely vote for the purr" (pg.15 - Barbara L. Diamond). How true! Anyone that loves cats knows how soothing their company can be. This little gem of a book would make a great gift for a cat-loving friend, and you'll probably want to grab one for yourself as well.

5 comments about 50 Ways to Train Your Cat.
- this book was very informative. My cats were receptive to the training
- Caution: One trick in this book is physically dangerous to your cat. Our vet said it is dangerous for a cat to stand-up on their back legs. Their hind legs can not support this activity. You will injure your cat. Please stop this trick. There are many, many other tricks cats can learn & not hurt themselves over time. PS Dog's hind legs can support standing-up - just not cats legs.
- This book relies heavily on squirting cats with water, which is not a positive reinforcement. Also, the steps do not address problem cats that don't want to cooperate. For instance, the section on nail-clipping tells you how to clip a cat's nails, but does not address how to get a cat to accept nail clipping without fussing.
- I found it lacking in detail, basically describing one way (positive reinforcement) used in 50 different applications. Much of the advice simply isn't practical.
- This book seemed like most Computer books I read. Define the problem and then a procedural step by step list of how to "solve" the problem. It just seems cold, calulating and impersonal. This may work with computers, but not with something living. The book just lists the steps, and if your cat doesn't follow the steps listed, oh well.
The author also seems to be streaching to reach the 50 training tips mentioned in the title as most seemed to come natural to my cats or were common sense to me.

5 comments about The Cat Who Wasn't There.
- I'm a fan of the CAT WHO series. This is another fun story. I've read the books published up to 1999, and love listening to them in the car. Sorry to say that the books published after that have a different tone, as if written by someone else. I firmly believe they were, but I am enjoying the earlier immensely.
- We have read all of the Cat Who series several times and never tire of the antics of Ko Ko and Yum Yum. Being disabled and also with limited "reading" vision, my husband reads to me and the troubles of my world are lifted ten times over! Thank you Ms. Braun!!
- All of "the cat who..." novels are great! For some reason, I find reading them comforting and calming... They're a good read and I find the characters interesting. I so look forward to reading them after a long, stressful day.
- It was a charming story but hardly great literature. Enjoyable. I read it because of the Scotland info as I am leaving in a few weeks for my first trip to Scotland and thought it would be a fun story to read beforehand. I was not disappointed. I'm also a cat lover so always enjoy the cats in these stories.
- If you read more than a few Cat Who's you will find them becoming comfortable, like another "Lake Woebegon." There's not much suspense, mystery, thrill, or romance left by now, but increasing numbers of "tall tales" of Moose County (now collected in a new book) and amusing characters who all seem to have "hearts of gold" whatever their pseudo-rough veneer (except of course for the murderer, almost incidentally). While Qwill, our cozy billionaire journalist and lead character, carefully never says ill of another, there's just enough acerbic comment on somebody's part to keep these stories from terminal cuteness. Besides cat-lovers (especially SIAMESE cat-lovers), these stories will please admirers of the Far North, Arts and Crafts, and things Scottish. Indeed, The Cat Who Wasn't There takes place most entirely in Scotland, which is why it's one of the better ones, since it forces Qwill into new surroundings. The Cat Who Moved a Mountain is one of my favorites for the same reason, besides providing an intriguing other rural alternative to Moose County.
Although there is a comfortable and appealing continuity of characters and back stories from book to book, they might become soporific if you read them one right after another. They are bonbons for the mind, best not overdosed. The series is one you can let kids of any age discover and enjoy, too. The whole family can read them, and perhaps the allusions to historical people, music, styles, and places may excite some additional interest among your young ones!

1 comments about Where Cats Meditate.
- I have to say I was very disappointed in this book. The whole layout design is cold and dull. The pictures and quotes are average as well as the printing quality. I have a lot of cat books and all kinds of them. This is one I would not recommend to others.

3 comments about The Cat Grooming Guide.
- I bought the book because I'm wanting to groom my own cats and there's nothing else specific on grooming cats. I don't agree with one reviewer's critique on the artwork, it's just as informative as photos, if not more so and if you appreciate art you'll enjoy the humor that the artist expresses. I think the book's information is very good, I'm sure my cats will not enjoy what I'm going to do to them though.
- I was extremely disappointed when I got this book, especially considering all the high marks from groomers it received. The drawings (no photo references) are generally pointless and unprofessional. The grooming information is weak and the handling info is basically non-existent. From the viewpoint of a cat lover/owner and cat rescue volunteer, the author should stick to dogs. Unfortunately, this appears to be the only cat grooming guide available at the moment. However, I suggest looking into some good cat behavior books (such as "The cat who cried for help" by Dr. Nicholas Dodman (he also wrote a wonderful book on canine behavior, "The dog who loved too much") or "PetSpeak: Share Your Pet's Secret Language" by the editors of Pets) to help with cat handling. Whether you're a pet owner or professional groomer, knowing how the cat is going to react is vital for your's and the cat's safety.
- Although I haven't extensively read this book, a copy was shown to me by a cat breeder. I looked up areas that I know are problems for cat owners. My business is grooming cats, and clients always ask the same questions; this book uses many of the techniques that I have used in 9 yrs of grooming cats. nice pictures, too!

3 comments about Cat Toys: How to Make Your Home a Feline Paradise (Storey Country Wisdom Bulletin, a-251).
- I was disappointed in this book. Although the content was informative and the book was inexpensive, I found the ideas unrealistic unless you want life to be dominated by the needs of cats. I found the format boring.
- Lura Rogers offers expert advice on choosing safe, suitable accessories for your cat, including cat beds, cat condos, cat trees, scratching posts, toys, and catnip-stuffed mice. She also gives tips for making kitty accessories with little expense, selecting items that best suit your cat's personality, and choosing the right location for cat structures in your home.
A section on catnip and other greens for cats is included.
- I was very excited about this book, as a lifelong cat owner. It is not a book, but a pamphlet. It's thin and unoriginal. Who doesn't know that you can buy cat trees or beds or grow your own catnip? I was expecting design specs or instructions (how big a base should a cat tree have to support a certain height or number of shelves?) and got neither, except for a pattern for a "catnip mouse" which is an oval. Cut one out and fold it in half and stitch. I just saved you $3.95 + SH.
I did find some great patterns for cat houses and trees on the Internet, if you search under "free woodworking patterns" and scroll through. I have yet to find a book of them. Please consider a shelter cat; the Petfinder service has thousands of them.
