1 comments about Cats, Dogs & Other Rabbits: The Extraordinary World of Harry Whittier Frees.
- This is an extraordinary collections of photos. Frees did not harm or mistreat his subjects and insisted they were not drugged. His talent was remarkable and yet he died penniless and was buried in a pauper's grave. His intuition about when to snap his shutter and his mother's hand made costumes make this a delightful snapshot into the life of a reclusive artist who committed suicide at the age of 74 (he had cancer).

3 comments about 101 Reasons Why Cats Make Great Kids.
- For those of us who choose to have kids with four legs and a tail, this is the perfect book. You'll never have a cat asking for piercings, never have to change diapers, they LOVE liver and litter training is a breeze. Sure, some people will never understand the bond between cats and humans but I know I'm their mama and they're my kids.
- This book mirrors reality.
My wife and I have 3 short hair domestic cats, all adopted. They are our fur-children! My Dad calls them his grandcats. Not having any children in our younger days, and unable to have them now, our cats are our 2 year old kids. Watch your cats. By far, this book is well written, and the graphics are excellent. If you have no cats, this book is not for you. Also recommended is "I learnt everything for business from my cat". E-Ruff-moew-gruff or read this book, lady.
- My 2 persian cats are my children so I could totally relate. This book would be a fun read for any cat lover, whether they have children or not. Also, I found the illustrations very enjoyable.

4 comments about Ninth Garfield Treasury.
- I laughed a lot throughout The Ninth Garfield Treasury, but I wasn't completely satisfied with my purchase. Why? Well, as other reviewers have noted, the logos and very first little box in each strip is missing! This is a problem because I'm sure Jim Davis spends a lot of time thinking up these creative logos and I don't know if he's happy about them being cut out.
Other than that, The Ninth Garfield Treasury is a pretty good buy. I've always thought color was the best way to go with Garfield (check out the funny one that's half black-and-white and half color in this book!), and so I've been purchasing the Treasuries for that one reason. This book is noticeably a lot more bright than the previous few. Red, black, white, green, all sorts of colors show up in this book, and with good detail, too. I think Jim Davis is one of the most talented cartoonists ever (take that, Snoopy!), and his ability to make all his Garfield strips funny and cute (some quite heartwarming, too). I hope Garfield goes for another twenty years (or forty, or sixty!), because I find him constantly inspired. He rarely fails to make me laugh! Keep up the kicking, Garfield! If you like this book, I'd recommend Garfield Treasury, and The Tenth Garfield Treasury.
- The best yet. it is so funny and I don't just say that because I'm a die-hard garfield fan. it was very well written. I'm telling you if you like garfield you like this book.
- Get ready to laugh! This book is the best book of the treasuries!I like this book, because it has lots of color in it.And I agree, this book dosen't have logo boxes like the other books! The bad part of this book is that it is short. But I think Jim Davis should make the tenth treasury!
- The only thing I don't like about the Garfield Treasuries (the recent ones anyway) is that they don't show the Logo-boxes or Drop-panels (as shown as in the "mini-books") with the sunday comics! These things might not show up in all comics sections every week (just like some newspapers still have dailies in b/w) but they're still a major part of the strip and I'd love to see the colors of the logo and drop panels in the Tenth Garfield Treasury. Other than that, this is a great book and a must-have for any Garfield fan.

5 comments about Your Magickal Cat: Feline Magick, Lore, and Worship.
- From ancient beginnings to modern day pets, cats are breed all their own. No other animal has such an amazing history as the cat. Gerina Dunwich does a wonderful job telling you all about the history of this magickal creature and how you can share the magick in your life with your cat. Highly recommended for those insterested in familiar magick work, or anyone who just wants to learn more about cats.
- This is one of the older books that are out on cat magic, though not the first. However, it follows pretty much the standard formula-after all, there's really only so much you can dig up on one particular animal. It pretty much goes after the people who like the romanticized idea of the feline familiar, but doesn't really offer much in the way of practical material.
The book is about 2/3 mythology, folklore and superstitions from various cultures. There's the prerequisite discussion on Egypt, Bast and Sekhmet, as well as the Inquisition-era feline familiar. About the only advantage is that it's all collected into one place.
Dunwich does add some of her own original work throughout the book, mostly consisting of--suepeise, surprise--spells. Her chapter on familiars isn't particularly practical, though she does mention that not all pets a witch owns are familiars. The information is vague, and there's more material dedicated to naming the cat than is really necessary.
The chapter on feline totems is also pretty basic, and this is one of the downfalls of the glut of 101 material--it skims over a bunch of topics without really going into any real depth. There's just not much to do beyond a few spells.
Then there's the cat astrology section. Dunwich basically takes sun sign astrology and turns it into a kitty horoscope. There's nothing there that you couldn't figure out just by observing your cat for a while. (Kind of like using human zodiacs to try to tell someone something about themselves.)
The research on the historical end was good, but the practical material left a lot to be desired. Get it if you need a quick reference to feline lore, but otherwise feel free to spend your money on toys for your cat instead.
- I was planning on buying this book, but decided not to after reading a few reviews which revealed that the author had given away at least ten cats of her own, using the old "moving away" excuse. Anyone who can do that is obviously not a person who has a true affinity, care, or respect for cats - or any animal. True witches have a bond with animals - our brethren - and Dunwich obviously fails the test. I won't be reading this or any other of her books.
- I question the fact that the author calls herself a lifelong cat lover, since, in the introduction, she readily admits to having given away more than ten felines in her household because she was moving across the country. This made me seriously doubt the integrity of the author, as any true cat lover would NEVER do such a thing. It made me wonder whether she saw them as living beings and members of the family, as my cats are to me, or just ornaments that can be cast aside if they become inconvenient. Perhaps I'm cynical, but the book just smacked of a means to make money for an author whose work is fairly pedestrian. In regards to the content, it covered such mundane matters as history, naming your cat and the like. If you want books written by apparently genuine cat lovers, I would suggest Patricia Telesco's book Cat Magic and Daisy Pepper's Spells For Cats. They cover pretty much the same content and seem to come from a place of genuine care and concern for our feline friends.
- I have read a good number of books written by prolific author Gerina Dunwich and I can honestly say that "Your Magickal Cat" is definitely my favorite one out of the bunch! Like the author, I too am a Witch and a cat-lover, and I found this book to be truly inspiring, educational, and quite interesting. The chapter dedicated to the goddess Bast discusses how the cat was worshipped and protected as a sacred animal in ancient Egypt, and the astrological chapter on feline sun-signs is quite a fun read. There are also sections containing valuable information on metaphysical healing techniques for cats, interpreting cat symbols in dreams, cats as Witches' familiars, and so much more. This well-written and beautifully-illustrated book tastefully mixes history with folklore and spells, and even sprinkles in some charming cat poetry to tickle the fancy of any cat-lover. I highly recommend this book to all Pagans and non-Pagans alike who hold a special place in their hearts for the wondrous feline. I personally rate it 10 stars. Blessed be!

4 comments about Movie Cats.
- Susan Herbert is in fine form as she shifts into the realm of motion pictures, punny titles and all. She proves adept at both movie stars and famous movie scenes. The focus here is on the classics, and sneak peeks on the Internet indicate there will eventually be a second edition going all the way up to The Lord of the Rings. Cat lovers, rejoice!
- I adore Susan Herbet, who does an amazing job painting pictures of cats and incorporating them into famous stories and works of art. In "Movie Cats," Herbert recreates scenes from some of Hollywood's most famous motion pictures. My personal favorites include Mammy and Scarlett O'Hara from "Gone with the Wind," James Bond and his "Pussies Galore" from "Goldfinger," characters from "The Wonderful Whiskers of Oz," and a portrait of "Charlie Catlin." If you're a cat lover and a movie buff, you have to have this book!
- Susan Herbert's cats have appeared as characters in paintings, Victorian settings and now they are going to the movies. Another sublime book of cat paintings as characters from a dozen movies. The one of the Godfather is worth the price of the book. As usual Herbert has done a marvelous job and the characters have charm and wit and certainly are a reason to smile.
- This is really the most enchanting book of cat illustrations I've seen in a very long time. Even people who don't love cats that much seem to be charmed by it. Anyone who loves movies will wish there were cat versions starring Susan Herbert's movie cats.

5 comments about Simon & Schuster's Guide to Cats.
- The Simon & Schuster Guide to Cats is unique in that essential information is provided in a concise format for every breed of cat, including a picture of each breed and its variations. The information provided per breed is one or two pages of information that includes origin, coat, color, body, head, eyes, tail, character, ideal owner, environment, diet, recommended care, reproduction, faults, and varieties. Also included are symbols that tell the reader whether or not a particular breed is particularly playful or requires extra grooming. It is ideal for the cat owner or potential cat owner who wants to understand the particular needs of a particular breed of cat. No other guide I have found gives such a wealth of information. As other reviewers have noted though, newer breeds are omitted, such as the Munchkin, Bengal, Selkirk Rex, and LaPerm probably due to the age of this guide which was published in 1983. It is for this lack of updated information that I give it four stars instead of five.
- Like the best-selling Simon & Schuster's Guide to Dogs, this new Guide to Cats is the best available, whether you need it primarily for identification, to help you choose a breed suitable for you, or for pure
reading pleasure. Concise, informative, and illustrated completely in full color, this book describes the fascinating history of cats and features 40 longhair and shorthair breeds, detailing for each its origin, coat, color, body, head, eyes, tail, character, ideal owner, environment, feeding, care, mating, faults, and varieties, in accordance with North American standards. In addition, colorful symbols assist the reader in understanding and appreciating each breed at a glance.Over 200 full-color illustrations covering shorthair and longhair breeds, with a description of origin, physical and personality characteristics, ideal owner, diet, care, and much more, including helpful symbols for such traits as Good Mouser , Good with Children , and other traits.
- Half of this book was introduction. Although the introduction was very informational, There was too much. And it's true, they did leave out the Munchkin,Bengal, and there were a few more. I just can't remember them at this moment. This was a very good book though. I just don't recommend it to anyone who is tring to decide what breed they want.
- I think this book was okay but it has more introduction than breeds. It also left out a few breeds like the Munchkin,Bengal and more. If you don't mind having a few breeds missing than this is an okay book.
- THIS IS A GREAT BOOK, IT DESCRIBES EACH BREED, WITH MANY EXTRA'S THAT OTHER BOKKS DON'T INCLUDE, SUCH AS TERMPERMANT AND ENVIRONMENT. I ENDED UP GETTINNG A CAT FROM THE SHELTER, BUT THE SECTION ON CAT CARE STILL HELPED ME, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT THE BEST BOOK TO BUY JUST FOR INFORMATION ON CAT CARE.

5 comments about New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats: Over 1,000 At-Home Remedies for Your Pet's Problems (New Choices).
- This book is absolutely awesome! It begins by explaining what alternative medicine is, why pets get sick, and making the switch from allopathic to holistic medicine. It also describes, from A to Z, common ailments and how various vets treat them. There are snippets about how pets treat themselves for certain diseases, when to call the vet, and anecdotes pertaining to the ailment. It also has an extensive alternative healing resource guide.
- This book is full of several remedies for many different illnesses, problems, etc...
Highly recommended.
- Amy has written yet another good book for pet owners. As the trend in natural healing continues, good resources such as this book, The Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats, 8 Weeks to a Healthy Dog, and The Allergy Solution for Dogs serve as important sources of information for pet owners. Read this book and start learning how you can work with your doctor to keep your pet happy and healthy.
- A friend knew how my aging dog, Nina, was quite ill and that my family was not planning a second surgery, as she might not survive the operation and, besides, the mass on her liver had grown back in a year. She gave me a copy of this wonderful book, which gives options for health care. Impressed with the book, I ordered many copies and have given a copy to others who love their dogs and cats and want an option to drugs or surgery. Here it is! Nina's had extra time with her family and I have a new respect for natural healing, for pets and for people. You should buy several copies of "New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats", so you may share the love.
- I am in the process of learning about holistic health care for my 2 lhasa apsos and have recently purchased a few books on the subject. I started one book and set it aside to finish later. I picked up "New Choices in Natural Healing for Dogs & Cats" and couldn't put it down until I was finished! I was so impressed with the layout of such a large amount of information. This book is chock-full of great information and it is presented in a terrific format giving the read first the "The Signs" of the condition, then "The Cause" and the "The Solutions". The solutions can be numerous with the author offering different suggestions and not seeming to be biased towards any one particular holistic remedy. Directions are very clear, concise, and easily understood. Some choices mentioned are natural diet (which seems to be the first and obvious step towards better health care for an animal), natural supplements, herbal remedies, vitamins, aroma-therapy, magnet therapy, accupressure with diagrams shown, and of course, recommendations to call your vet to assist in dosage. Although you feel there is alot to learn, the information is broken down so well, it is easy to retain alot of what you read in the first go around with this book. I am sure I will be picking it up time and time again while working to get my dogs in the best possible health. Also included are some behavior problems. I guarantee you will learn some new and valuable information!

3 comments about Cats of Cairo: Egypt's Enduring Legacy.
- I have bought a number of Cats of Cairo now for friends everywhere and all have found this book to be insightful, entertaining and endearing. The photographs are special but the thoughts and insights that accompany them are both appealing and informative and offer a glimpse into the lives of the amazing felines that stalk the streets and alleys of Cairo.
Barbara Fudge
Cairo, Egypt
- My cat-people friends are FLIPPING out over this book; photos of heaven for cat lovers. From pagan cattitudes to sufi dhikr-purrs, a divine celebration of the feline. How felicitous! Lucky Lorraine, too, to have landed what has to be one of the last essays of the late Dr Annemarie Schimmel (may she rest in mercy), and such an essay of sweet profundity, all about the place of love for cats in Islam: Hadiths on kittens, cat-loving Egyptians, these are a few of her favorite things.
- Cats Of Cairo: Egypt's Enduring Legacy is a splendidly presented photographic presentation and testament to the savvy, street-smart felines of Cairo and the result of photographer Lorraine Chittock's seven year residence in this fabled Egyptian city. Here we see intimate portraits of these predatory survivors augmented with quotes derived from a spectrum of historical and modern sources tracing the timeless connection between people and cats in a never ending cycle of life. Cats Of Cairo is a fitting testament and "must" reading for anyone who has ever looked into the mystery of a cat's eyes, watched the stalking of a perfect predator, or felt purring vibrations under a caressing stroke.
