4 comments about A Photographic Atlas of the Human Body: With Selected Cat, Sheep, and Cow Dissections.
- I bought a used book titled "A photographic Atlas of the Human Body" by Gerard Tortora. The book looks almost new, there are no writings or creased pages. I received the book in less than a week just as guaranteed.
The book has excellent photographs and graphics.
- If you have the Tortora book, then you do not need this atlas. I would highly, highly recommend that you do not waste money on this atlas. Spend a few more dollars and get a copy of the Netter's atlas for students. Trying to use this atlas in my human anatomy lab/class (intro) has been nothing but annoying. Many important landmarks are overlooked and I have repeatedly had to refer to Netter's to figure out where landmarks are. Avoid this atlas and save your money and frustration.
- This book is a very good companion if you are using osteology blocks with pictures in black and white. Is just 32 pages and the information is limited, however the pictures are great and allow you to see the little details that escape from black and white photos in other books. Did I mention the price? Is very affordable for struggling students like me.
- I'm a pre-med student, and when I first heard about this book from my professor, I was a bit skeptical that it would help me or anyone that wasn't already in med school. But when I got it, it was clear and easy to follow. The pictures weren't some badly drawn figurines, or a mess of grey, unidentifiable body parts, they were real photographs of the skeleton which were, thank goodness!, easy on the eyes. I might not be in med school yet, but I'm making sure I have this book with me. As a revision and reference book, this one is the greatest!

4 comments about My Little One.
- Love this book as much as Baby, Baby! Just wish is was a board book though!!
- This is very cute the only downside is that it's not a board book, but the pictures are awesome and my baby loves it!
- I bought this book, mistakenly thinking it was also a board book like V.C.'s Baby! Baby! The pages are regular, and there are no words, but my daughter also loves looking at and patting all the pictures of the babies in this book (I just supervise a little better to prevent torn pages).
If you (or your baby, or anyone else you know) like kittens and babies, this is the book for you!!
- This book has been created by an amazingly talented photographer! I found this book by accident while looking for a baby shower gift. I went ahead and bought it for my friend, but I fully intend to buy my own copy. A fantastic coffee table book for cat lovers, parents and people who appreciate beautiful, yet simplistic, photography.

5 comments about Ernie: A Photographer's Memoir.
- This book was very well titled and illustrated. It looked as if my own cat ERNIE posed for many of the pictures himself. If you have a black and white(tuxedo cat), I strongly urge you to purchase this book. It will mean so much to you later when you lose your cat(to death) like it did with my ERNIE. I highly recommend it.
- I was recommended this book by a colleague as I was starting to get into photography. My first thought was that it'd be boring - I mean photos of cats?! If I wanted that I'd buy a calendar. However I ordered it and it is brilliant. The photos are outstanding - nothing like your typical cat-calendar shots, but rather they capture the essence of the subject, which in this case just happens to be a cat. Add to that, the fact that it is beautifully presented, it could only be 5 stars.
- I encountered Ernie while visiting the Tate Modern bookstore here in London over the weekend, and was instantly won over by his crazy, self-possessed ways. The genius of Mendoza's work lies in his ability to faithfully capture the personality of his feline subject, with the same amount of detail and devotion one would expect to see in photographs of people. As a filmmaker and photography enthusiast, I have accumulated a library of photography books by those renowned in their field, and Mendoza's masterful memoir deserves its place amongst them. Sure, he is not a Pulitzer Prize winning war photographer, the subject is light-hearted but it is also sincere, which is the most you can ask of an artist. Ernie is a fine example of what photography and portraiture should be: an engaging and revealing insight into its subject, one that compels the viewer to revisit the photographs again and again, delighting and inspiring with each subsequent reading.
- I love this book. As a cat lover the book captured this cat's character perfectly. Loved the narratives of both the photographer and especially when he wrote on behalf of Ernie!! If you love cats, you will definitely enjoy this book and its pictures. I love Ernie!
- This little book is a personal favorite. After spotting it at a bookstore a couple of years ago, I've given it as a gift to several friends and family and all of them have loved it too.
The book shows its star -- Ernie the cat -- in a variety of poses: being playful with the author, fighting with another cat, yawning, stretching, sleeping, growling, chasing bugs, perched on the fridge, watching people from the window, and exploring the world. Each of the great black and white photos shows another side of Ernie, making him a lot more complex than one would consider a feline.
This book is a must for any cat lover. If you like cats, buy it. I think after you're through you will find yourself looking at it again and again. Definitely the mark of a classic.

5 comments about An Unlikely Cat Lady: Feral Adventures in the Backyard Jungle.
- In her sassy, humorous memoir, Nina Malkin describes life as an accidental cat lady. She and her husband noticed feral cats in their Brooklyn neighborhood, had their hearts stolen away, and then educated themselves about proper handling of feral colonies. Nina and Jason quickly became Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) advocates. TNR is a grassroots effort to trap feral cats (a humane trap will run you $50), have them neutered and vaccinated, and return them to the wild. A true cat lover can not just feed feral colonies, encouraging continued breeding, so TNR is a true way to show humane support for animals.
Nina lovingly names her cat-neighbors after rock stars Axl Rose and Sid Vicious, and throughout the course of the book, she teaches the reader to appreciate these lost and wild cats on their own terms.
- The book was informative in general, but I became a little weary of the author's sarcasm. I was also greatly disturbed when they disposed of one of the dead ferals in the trash can. That was surprising to me given their level of emotional and financial investment in the cats. I would have expected that a proper cremation would be in order.
- I read up to page 32 where the author complains about some bad tenants
who are white and says "They are textbook examples of what black people
mean when they say white children get no home training."
I've lived in Chicago all my life (57 years) and have
never heard that black people say white children get no home training.
It was a racist slur against white people and since it accused blacks of
a racist belief which I don't believe they even have, it was also anti-
black. Her bigotry disgusted me. I threw the book in the garbage where
all racist trash belongs. I do not recommend this book.
- This is the first published book i've seen that describes someone's experience with TNR, (trap, neuter, return) which is what everyone should do if you have a feral cat in your backyard. You look up your local cat rescue or SPCA groups to find who is supporting TNR in your neighborhood, you get a vet appt or find out when the next TNR vet day is for feral cats (many vets won't work on ferals hence a good idea to hook up with an existing TNR group, or just start your own), you buy or borrow a cat sized humane animal trap (20-40$), trap the cat, take it in to be vaccinated and neutered, and then if feral, release it back in the same location. And then, ideally, feed and monitor your TNR'd cats (their ears will be tipped so you can tell who you've done and who is unneutered). No more kittens or cat explosions, and you have the security of knowing the ferals in the area are protected against rabies.
More and more people are getting on the TNR bandwagon. It's pretty easy to do, and you know you've done some good for the animals in your neighborhood. Feeding of course is not enough, because the animals continue to breed. Feral cats aren't easily adoptable, and many shelters will just euthanize them. They're in that middle ground between wild and pet animals, but with a little effort they can be given a niche to survive in the environment, and TNR is what they need, plus a bowl of kibble and some water.
This is a light and amusing book that describes one woman's first venture into TNR. The only cautionary note was that I didn't like it when she let one cat out of the trap and didn't TNR him because she didn't find him attractive. It's a sorry thing when such care is only available to cute kittens. And if she didn't like him, why leave him unneutered to sire more just like him? And I wondered if she had gotten him vet care, if he would have made it, since he seemed ill. At least he could have been humanely euthanized rather than being let out, ill and still unneutered. But other than that one diappointing occurance, it was a reasonably good tale.
- I enjoyed this book more than I had expected. It was not only a delight to read, but informative as well. Being a cat lover and having adopted my share of "outside cats", I certainly could relate to the author's experiences. I read parts of the book to my husband who agreed that she captured the essence of many of our own experiences.
If you are a cat lover or interested in animal welfare, you will find this a worthwhile and quick read.

5 comments about 365 Cats Page-A-Day Desk Calendar 2008.
- I have been buying the 365 Cats Page a Day Desk Calendar for a lot of years. This year (2008) they changed their format. It is a honey! The pics are HUGE and adorable as ever. I am SO HAPPY! I purchased a different type of cat calendar (which shall remain nameless) and was so disappointed, I threw it in the garbage and ordered this online since I was too late to find it in a store. If you love cats, this is a MUST HAVE!
- The Workman 365 Cats Page-A-Day Desk Calendar is my favorite. Not only are the pictures wonderful but each page has information that is very useful and gives great tips on various items that could pertain to your very own cat. This calendar is on my Christmas list every year - not just any calendar but the Workman Cat Calendar in particular.
Julie - Irvine, CA
- Great calendar for cat lovers. It has wonderful photos of various cats and gives a little information about each animal. It also lists the name of the owner and their city and state.
- The pictures and sayings for the cats are perfect. I was a bit disappointed that after you tear off the day, the page doesn't fit in the tray under the calendar. The one I purchased at Barnes & Noble for 2007 did.
- For all people who love cats, it's nice to start the day watching at a new picture of these misterious and fascinating animals; I like to read on this calendar the different experiences of cat owners and to read the curiosity and tips about these sweet pets.

2 comments about French Cats Don't Get Fat: The Secrets of La Cuisine Feline.
- When I saw this chic little volume in the bookstore, I admit to being attracted to the R. Nichols type illustration done in pastels on the front cover---so reminiscent of the high-strutting Parisian walking her (yikes) dog on the cover of popular diet book "French Women Don't Get Fat". At first, I thought this was yet another dieting treatise, yet another way to capitalize on America's love/hate relationship with our cheese-loving, wine-scarfing, chocolate-chomping buddies from across the ocean who somehow after all this eating manage to fit into those tight little couture pencil skirts and red and white apache tops. And then I saw the cat featured in the drawing---mais oui, it was a cat. Bien sur, I said, ce livre, ce n'est pas serieux; c'est une blague.
And then I got passed those cute little illustrations and actually read it.
Okay, I'm being a little obnoxious, but believe it or not, Henri de la Barb, in the guise of a parody, has written an even more entertaining and informative book than Mireille Guiliano. Guiliano's book, a sucre-filled memoir containing a French arsenal of vague tips detailing how she was defeated by the battle of the bulge America-style and had to retreat back to France and the methods of a certain Dr. Miracle to re-attain her Gitane-slim physique, contains anecdotes and recipes spread over 200+ pages. De La Barb, offers equally compelling information that can be utilized to actually lose weight with less than half the verbage, Veuve Clicquot-free advertising and ooh-la-las.
Okay, some of the recipes are a bit on the 'cat'astrophic side---our feline amis/amies certainly recommend mice and not mousse---but the idea of eating real food (in this case, for humans) prepared well and partaking of only a small portion seems to eptomize the best of common sense / highly nutritional dieting. Les Chats de la Barb actually eat seasonally, recommend purchasing only enough food for a day, and sum up all their tips in a shameless abbreviated mimicry of Guiliano rather arrogant much ado about nothing.
But his cats are practical too, knowing that they will not be able to run off on a whim to the local Dean & DeLuca's just to buy the best triple cream and Valrona truffle, he makes allowances for those situations where convenience is key.
Consequently, De La Barb's book is much more fun and speaks la verite; we laugh out loud at his prissy little pussies and their over-the-top antics, but we are not quite sure whether or not to laugh at Guiliano's pandering of her nationality and the odd mystique it has over many Americans.
C'est une blague, n'est-ce pas? Mais pas de blagues, buy this book instead, its funny, doesn't take itself seriously and its much faster to read, delivering the same message without the hype. Of course, its a humorous treat for cat-lovers, too.
- If you are familiar with French For Cats, Advanced French for Exceptional Cats, and Poetry for Cats (as all of my feline friends have been) you know what to expect. And Beard delivers. This man truly loves his cats and French language and culture, and remains the master at spoofing recent trends. His target this time is French Women Don't Get Fat, and you will laugh out loud at the clever way in which Beard transfers this dietary wisdom to cats. As always, the cats are laughing at humans...

1 comments about BOTTLEKATZ: A Complete Care Guide for Orphan Kittens.
- I have now raised four litters of kittens from a week old to adoption. I can say that in many ways it is harder than raising my twin boys. You don't have the resources for kittens as with kids and they need three times the feeding and stimulation care that kids do!!! Now with this book I have the life line I need to take on another litter. Fostering kittens can be the most heartbreaking and wonderful job at the same time and with this book I will hopefully eliminate the "scary" parts associated with it. Sharon's book is like having a veterinarian at home with me at all times. I am telling everyone I know about this book. It is a must for raising kittens for your home or to adopt out.
Thank you Sharon for sharing your expertise and for making it so easy to read and understand. Please keep up the wonderful work. It is clear you have saved many lives in the past and your book is sure to save many more in the future. God Bless. (from a fellow kittie mom)

3 comments about Cats On Quilts.
- Having decided from the beginning that each quilt should have a cat on it somewhere, I ordered this book to see examples of how people in the past have represented cats on quilts. The liveliness of representation of cats is quite amazing, with many of the quilts managing to capture the way a cat looks and behaves - no mean feat, you only have to look at available cat fabrics to see how rare this is.
This is a small book, with each page containing detail from one quilt and I'd recommend it strongly to anyone interested in seeing in close-up detail how cats have been pictured on old quilts. I think it's a wonderful book.
- This is a FANTASTIC book. The quilts that the author chose to include are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces and often display a wonderful sense of humor. (Take, for instance, the quilt which features blocks with the head and front paws of a kitty, and the disappearing hind end of a mouse escaping from the kitty.) The excerpts from different writings about cats are understated and thoughtful, and the author provides a great mini-history of textiles in America. This book moved me into high gear in my own quilting and is an ongoing source of keen pleasure. If you don't quilt, if you just like cats, you'll love the book because of its folk-art depictions of cats; if you like cats AND quilting, this book will make you feel like someone let you loose in the catnip patch.
- This sweet book would make a nice gift - it is full of whimsical and unusual examples of cat motifs on American country quilts. Many cat-related books are a bit saccharine for my taste but this is a refreshing and delightful change of pace
