4 comments about Handbook of Small Animal Practice.
- I'm a foreign Veterinary preparing for the NAVLE test, I highly recommend this book, it is easy to read but at the same time it has the right deep in each chapter and very actual. It is not only usefull for students, I believe that it's a great book for Practioner Doctors. Great , great book, about Internal Medicine in Small animals. Other books in the same area such as Nelson -Couto, Ettinger, Birchard Sberding are really good but this one is my favorite.
- As a french DVM, I looked for a book in internal medicine with a text in "bullets point".
This book offers an original manner to stucturate the medical informations.
You can access more quickly to the info you want
- The right answer to the dumb question "If you could buy only 1 book . . .?" should be "I wouldn't be a vet!" Choosing a comprehensive Small Animal Practice book, however, comes to only 2 alternatives: either Birchard & Sherding's or Morgan's. I am not considering excellent Internal Medicine texts (like Ettinger or Nelson & Couto) because, by design, they leave out important areas of the practice. Which one would you choose, then? I have a slight preference for Birchard & Sherding's (which could be influenced by the fact that I worked in the same school as them for 20 years!). Morgan's outline format occasionally is too restrictive and prevents full explanation of important concepts but it is a great text and a few chapters (like the one on Central Nervous System) are truly exceptional. Each text has its own chracteristics and strongest areas but both are outstanding. What do you do then? Do as I did; buy both! It is a bit more expensive but you will be sure that you have the very best that has been written in small animal practice. I have had no reason to repent.
- To make a long story short, if somebody tells me that I have to pick just ONE book to run a small animal practice, I would pick this one.
This book discuss 95% of the clinical cases you will find in real life and it's written in such a way, that you find the answer you need in a couple of minutes.

3 comments about Stuff on My Cat 2007 Wall Calendar.
- I love the "Stuff on My Cat" web site, but the calendar seemed to pick the most hokey pictures. I like to far out stuff - with an artsy slant (none of that in the calendar).
- ....and am really sorry to have to say so. I am a huge fan of the website, but this calander just doesn't cut the mustard. The featured photos are NOT representitive of the laugh out loud stuff you find on the website. My gripes?
1) Most months feature only 1 large photo, most of which are neither funny nor cute - so if you don't like the pic you are stuck looking at it for an entire month. Who the heck selected those pix??
2) The other pages have a 4 photo collage, these have better pix and should you not care for one you have 3 others to choose from. :-)
3) If I'm going to shell out $12 bucks for a calander it would be nice to have a peek at whats in it, ALL 12 months, not just 1 or 2.
I was so excited to finally have one of these (I'm on a budget, this was a big deal), and now I wish I'd just picked up a cat calander at the 99 Cent Store. ;-p Better pix and more collages next year please Mario!
- The calendar is worth it for the January picture alone. Dignified cats in VERY undignified positions. A MUST for all cat lovers :-)I keep mine at work and have the page a day calendar as well. And I visit the webiste daily. Highly addictive!

2 comments about Cat "Tails" to Soothe the Soul.
- In this wonderful well written collection, the author has managed to tell each story in a way that makes you understand the unique personality of the cat involved. Each cat helps the people around them deal with life's trials. It was easy to visualize the characters, including the cats, as they each learned a lesson from the cats. Each story was compelling and I couldn't wait to read the next one.
- The book leaves you wanting to read more. I laughed and cried and was able to relate in different ways to the people in the stories. The book is well written and an easy read. A must read for all animals lovers.
