5 comments about Cairo Cats.
- Following is a verbatim passage from a recent e-mail message I sent to Cairo Cats mastermind and photographer, Lorraine Chittock. She suggested that I post it on Amazon, which I am happy to do. I actually purchased the earlier edition of Cairo Cats from Amazon, which is quite similar to the new 2006 volume, but not as good, in my opinion. There are some new images in the new edition, the text font and text color are better, and I even think the coloration on the wonderful images is more robust and eye-popping in the new edition. Also, the new edition is printed in Cairo, which adds character and authenticity as far as I'm concerned. The reason I became interested in the Cairo Cats volume was to provide background, reality, and a worldwide viewpoint to a Breed Booth display for a large, well attended international cat show. Our breed, the Somali, claims the North African geographical area and the ancient Egyptian culture as part of its "Creation Mythology". Cairo Cats helps present the Somali legend to the public, and provides context and an enjoyable reference book for the breeders represented by our display.
>These artful, captivating, intriguing images from a distant, exotic
>land will hopefully provide depth and background to our exhibit
>for the 2006 CFA International Show. Your volume illustrates
>a culture with perhaps the world's premier claim to a long and
>sincere Cat Fancy tradition. Both ancient and modern
>manifestations of Egyptian Cat Fancy are beautifully presented.
>Thoughtful readers can meditate on poetic Egyptian quotations
>spanning four millenia. There is much to value and appreciate
>in your Cairo Cats volume, Lorraine. I feel very lucky to be
>able to offer it to a broad audience, some of whom will
>deeply appreciate its rich cross-cultural offering.
- An inspiring book, that captures the true essence of Cairo, one of the world's most incredible cities. The pictures range from amusing, to awe-inspiring to poignant. Cat lovers and anyone with an interest in Egypt will absolutely cherish this one-of-a-kind book.
- Cairo Cats is highly professional but down-to-earth, with enchanting images, arresting quotations and an illuminating introduction. It helps us expand our understanding of the world and its creatures. Enough to make a non-cat person like me into a cat lover.
- Poetry by cool cats such as Naomi Shihab Nye and Nizar Qabbani, inscriptions from The Prophecies of Neferti, cat fiqh from Aisha and Imam al-Shafii (is that not delightful?), Persian folk sayings, Turkish proverbs, cat wisdom from Afghanistan, cat notes from Egyptian Nobel Laureate novelist Naguib Mahfouz. Cat calligraphy! "Qitt" with an inky tail!
All arranged amid lush, delightful cat photos: Cat among the Pharoahs, cat goddesses and gods, cat on a Persian rug, cats making careful cat-ablutions, cats on Cairo streetcorners, cat in a coffeeshop, the cat and the copper tray.
What a GEM!
I app-purrrrrr-rove.
- CAIRO CATS are street-smart, hold a fine lineage, and are not to be treated the same way as your typical Western cat: that's the message in the blend of history and pet insights of CAIRO CATS: EGYPT'S ENDURING LEGACY, which uses the backdrop of Cairo to explore the cats through verse and prose alike. Lovely photos display the cats against fine Egyptian scenes while descriptions draw readers in. Perfect for any cat lover who wants something a little different.

5 comments about Simon & Schuster's Guide to Cats.
- The Simon & Schuster Guide to Cats is unique in that essential information is provided in a concise format for every breed of cat, including a picture of each breed and its variations. The information provided per breed is one or two pages of information that includes origin, coat, color, body, head, eyes, tail, character, ideal owner, environment, diet, recommended care, reproduction, faults, and varieties. Also included are symbols that tell the reader whether or not a particular breed is particularly playful or requires extra grooming. It is ideal for the cat owner or potential cat owner who wants to understand the particular needs of a particular breed of cat. No other guide I have found gives such a wealth of information. As other reviewers have noted though, newer breeds are omitted, such as the Munchkin, Bengal, Selkirk Rex, and LaPerm probably due to the age of this guide which was published in 1983. It is for this lack of updated information that I give it four stars instead of five.
- Like the best-selling Simon & Schuster's Guide to Dogs, this new Guide to Cats is the best available, whether you need it primarily for identification, to help you choose a breed suitable for you, or for pure
reading pleasure. Concise, informative, and illustrated completely in full color, this book describes the fascinating history of cats and features 40 longhair and shorthair breeds, detailing for each its origin, coat, color, body, head, eyes, tail, character, ideal owner, environment, feeding, care, mating, faults, and varieties, in accordance with North American standards. In addition, colorful symbols assist the reader in understanding and appreciating each breed at a glance.Over 200 full-color illustrations covering shorthair and longhair breeds, with a description of origin, physical and personality characteristics, ideal owner, diet, care, and much more, including helpful symbols for such traits as Good Mouser , Good with Children , and other traits.
- Half of this book was introduction. Although the introduction was very informational, There was too much. And it's true, they did leave out the Munchkin,Bengal, and there were a few more. I just can't remember them at this moment. This was a very good book though. I just don't recommend it to anyone who is tring to decide what breed they want.
- I think this book was okay but it has more introduction than breeds. It also left out a few breeds like the Munchkin,Bengal and more. If you don't mind having a few breeds missing than this is an okay book.
- THIS IS A GREAT BOOK, IT DESCRIBES EACH BREED, WITH MANY EXTRA'S THAT OTHER BOKKS DON'T INCLUDE, SUCH AS TERMPERMANT AND ENVIRONMENT. I ENDED UP GETTINNG A CAT FROM THE SHELTER, BUT THE SECTION ON CAT CARE STILL HELPED ME, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT THE BEST BOOK TO BUY JUST FOR INFORMATION ON CAT CARE.

2 comments about 125 Most Asked Questions About Cats (And the Answers).
- Why do people fear black cats? How often should a cat be bathed? Do cats dream? Why do cats purr? How much privacy do cats need? Why do cats have whiskers?
If you like cats, this book answers all kinds of questions. We just adopted a stray, and although I had cats as a child, I found out that I really didn't know much about cat care or cat behavior. I found this book very interesting. But it wasn't really informative. Most questions are answered in a page or less. I recommend it as a quick read, but unless you really love cats or love reading about them, I would recommend you borrow it or check it out from the library like I did. It's not a book I plan to buy.
- good boo

5 comments about The Cat's Pajamas! A Personal Journal & Record Book.
- This book looked pretty good on the shelves. There are some other good ones to consider before buying. Look at The Book of My Pet, Cat Journal: A Keepsake, and My Cat's Tale.
- This is the most delightful cat book I've found to date! It is undoubtedly the cutest cat book on the market. With this book we can now keep a diary/history on our youngest family member. It is full of cute pictures and drawings and now I know what my cat is thinking when she gives me those funny looks. I purchased it for my wife and that's the smartest thing I've done yet! I'm glad I saw it! Thanks RAMAR!
- Now I know what to do with all my snapshots, funny memories and kitty records. This is a creative, charming and humerous collection of tid-bits and cat-wisdoms but best of all, a single place to store the my cat's medical information (annual vaccinations, etc), kitty's family tree (or lack thereof), special moments and photographs. Perfect for the new kitty in your life, or as in my case, for my 12-year old baby. Why didn't someone think of this sooner!
- You know I never would have belived it unless it had happened to me. Cats really do become a permanent part of the family. We watch as they grow from birth to adult-hood. We watch them play and develope their character. Some of us would spend our last dime to insure they recover from some unfortunate accident. We also cry when it's their time to leave us. Over time we all seem to lose more and more of those precious memories of our furry family members. I am so glad I now have this book. I have been wanting something like this for a long time and until now I haven't seen anything like it. This book is very, very nice quality and you can tell a lot of thought and work went into designing it and making it personal to you. It's a book that is definitly made to last and you can tell it was created by a real honest cat lover. It has great illustrations, plenty of space to put those special pictures and areas to descibe them. There are even places where we can put paw prints in the album. I can't tell you how much this means to our family. Of coarse this book will also take it's rightful place along with the rest of our albums. Now we never have to forget our furry family members and the special times they brought into our lives.
Thank you so much RayMar!, Ron McGraw
- I have this book and it is just perfect (or "purr-fect") for us. It's a great "baby book" for tracking all the fun and interesting events in our cat's life. I especially like all the proverbs that bring back so many memories of cats that I grew up with.
