1. Loved all the idea's and variety this book provided. For anyone planning an adventure in log home construction and living, this book is a true inspiration. Thanks for access to so many creative expressions by homeowners and builders, and for another wonderful log home experience.



2. The interiors are not the quality I had hoped for.And an entire book of log home interiors became too much for my eye in the end. I have bought several second home books recently, and my favorite remains a new book called Second Home, which shows not only log and timberframe homes but airy beach cottages, cabins in the woods, lake homes, and every other style one can imagine.



3. There seem to be two types of log home owners. First, there are the owners with an unlimited budget who hire archetects, interior designers, and lighting specialists who build and furnish the home immediately ready for "Archetectual Digest." Then, there is the rest of us.

   This book offers superb ideas, hints, and warnings for both groups. In my case, the log home we are renovating was roughly built and poorly maintained. However, the price was right and the home had, as they say, potential.

   The potential and decoration was also going to have to match our lifelong possessions. After three decades of marrage, dozens of moves, and time in Europe and Asia, our furniture was certainly eclectic. We were not about to have a giant yard sale and start over. Cindy Thiede's book on decorating help us in many ways.

   Most importantly, she gives specific ideas and pictures that can help log home owners regardless of their problems or budget. In our case, there was the perfect answer to an problem we were having with an addition. Additionally, we found a picture of the exect rock fireplace we were seeking. In each case, we marked the book and told the subcontractor that this was what we wanted.

   Finally, the author offers highlighted tips, facts, and web sites to help you through your decorating and renovation problems. The book concludes with a resource directory that cross-references pictures and ideas with the specific archetect, designer, or retailer.

   In summary, if you building, renovating or decorating a log home, this book will help you in many countless ways.

1. Inspiring to see combinations of leadlight, painting and all the variants of slumping and etching/sandblasting. So many fantastic ideas, traditional and contemporary.Great to see a book that shows ideas suitable to apply to large scale projects as well as smaller jobs. Best glass book I've found so far.

1. Having recently re-read Follett's _Pillars of the Earth,_ I've been reacquainting myself with the details of medieval cathedral-building. Being an historian, but not an architect, I've been interested especially in heavily pictorial volumes, and this is a pretty good one, by a British academic specialist in medieval architecture. Following two informative chapters on the ecclesiastical evolution of the cathedral and the construction process, the main body of the book is geographical in organization: the British Isles, French and Spanish-speaking Europe, the Germanic countries, a whole chapter on Italy, and a closing chapter on non-European cathedrals. The volume is oversized so most of the high-quality photos show plenty of detail, both exterior and interior. Etchings and engineering drawings are scattered throughout, as are quotations from monastic contemporaries. I especially like being able to turn pages and compare one west front to another, one sanctuary to another, and note the evolution of styles. And even though this is mostly a "picture book," there's a great deal of useful text.



2. I bought this book because Professor Oggins was a favorite of mine at SUNY-Binghamton. I was certainly not let down by this book. The text is clear and concise. It is laid out into introductory chapters explaning the evolution of the cathedral and its place in the life of the population of the times. This is followed by chapters reviewing prominent cathedrals, grouped geographically. These descriptions note historic as well as contemporary items of interest, for example the English cathedrals damaged by the Nazi blitz. Very well written and easy to read. The photography is exceptional, with both external and internal views, along with items of architectural interest. All in all an asset to anyone interested in medieval history, cathedrals, architecture, or just a well written book with good pictures. A plus is the geographic maps and the internal floor plans supplied with some of the cathedral descriptions.

1. Need a bit of light reading on the john? Look no further! This book has great pics, with a story to go with each one. Very lighthearted humor, nothing that your kids cannot see. I picked up my copy at a local auction, and love it!
