- The text is very interesting and informative. The only thing that I would add is more victorian homes from Cape May. This makes a nice coffee table book.

4 comments about John Stefanidis Living By Design.
- John Stefanidis does live by design; and with purpose and clarity he also designed his home and gardens, with wonderful results. He used his own textile designs to good use throughout the home, which is indicative of a man who knows his own mind when it comes to design. The results of the transformation of old stables into a comfortable home are spectacularly simple, by design, making the home a most usable, gracious, and gentle environment for him. There are also numerous design elements which any would be designer/decorator could use to good advantage in their own homes.
- The other reviewer of this book gave it five stars, calling it "intelligent and top of the line." Yes, it is a beautifully photographed book, and Stefandis is one of the great decorators of our era. But I was looking for a book that would help me decorate and design my new house, bought in 2002. And, alas, "Living by Design" is already dated. It was published in 1997 but was photographed earlier, AND IT SHOWS.
- Not your ordinary coffee-table book; an essential guide for anyone interested in a house and garden that is original, witty, mindful of place and time. The photographs are unusually good and the text compelling --- it makes the good life seem accessible and comfortable.

1 comments about Architecture of the Everyday.
- In Architecture of the Everyday Harris and Berke produced an anthology of essays on the architecture of the everyday. It is ordinary, banal, and quotidian. Yet such a normative, or major, theory encompasses the authority of examples from history. We can only learn how to conjecture, and thereby design, from history.
New ideas, or minor theories also abound and are expressed as critical commentary in contemporary art, architecture, and landscape. One minor theory in landscape is that the landscape needs a dynamic language. After all-- "a landscape is worth a thousand pictures". The vast complexity and ephermeralness of the landscape as a subject of inquiry and contemplation requires more tools. Text and even drawings and still images are orders away from the intensity of percept bombardment from the real world. The landscape is not a still life, but determined by time, sense, movement, function, spatial structure, and perhaps most significantly by the internal landscape narratives, or fantasies. Poetry may be the essential and functionally driven language of spatial structure. Filmakers are spacemakers. Copyright 1998 Robert Hotten

3 comments about Theo Kalomirakis' Private Theaters.
- Great book. Lots of ideas. Many could be translated to lower costing projects. How would one get in touch with some of the different designer aspects used, such as the soft scuplter of Lisa Leintfelds (sic)? Have tried everything I could think of. Keep up the wonderful work.
- I purchased this book to get ideas for our own home theater and of course the ideas in this book are way out of my price range, but the enjoyment of looking at the pictures and the editorial information was great. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to provide enjoyable reading items for visitors or guest. I definitely think this is a coffee table book that many people will enjoy. I personally have had 4 people ask me where they could get a copy of this book.
- In this magnificient book Theo Kalomirakis, the front figure of extravagant home theater gives you an inside view to some of the finest home theaters in the world. The background of mr. Kalomirakis is shortly but concisely explained, as is his enthusiasm for movies and the history of the movie palaces of the golden era. His talent of bringing the dreams of his clients alive in perfect home theaters is delightfully revealed through the glorious pictures and thoughtful descriptions of the individual theatres in the book. Every chapter of the book gives you enough information satisfy your curiosity, but still leaves some details for your imagination. It seems like this book is as carefully crafted symbiose of technology and art as are mr. Kalomirakis' home theaters.
I recommend this book highly for everyone that is aspiring to achieve the highest level of home entertainment, because the book gives you a lot of ideas. However, this book is not for technology oriented people, because the equipment used for these theatres are not in the forefront, the outlook and the atmosphere of these theatres take the leading roles.
