1. This is an excellent reference for Interior Designers, with detailed technical information. I am currently studying interior design and even though I have read only a couple pages, it has helped me tremendously with my tests. I can imagine it will be a good reference for people who have finished and need to refer back to detailed technical information for interiors.

1. This is an excellent piece of research on the all pervasive housing type; the rowhouse. It is not an historical overview; it is a series of speculative projects, some student projects, with beautifully realized works of architecture as well. They point towards certain areas of research, into new possibiities of the type; spatial and subdivision innovations, interesting responses to topography, accommodation of parking, and different levels of interaction with the street. Highly recommended.

While this book covers many already familiar houses, the layout is thoughtful and inventive, the text is informative while including many interesting asides that make it one of the best introductions to the topic that I've seen. If you just want one book on the Arts and Crafts house, this is it.

1. This is a very well executed book. The pictures chosen are perfect and the authors do a commendable job with the research. The book gives an exhaustive cross section of Mr. Popes work and one gets a real appreciation of his talent. The book publisher deserves credit for creating such a finely made book, one never doubts they are perusing an expensive book. The only qualm I have with the book is that they didn't do like the authors of the book on Delano and Aldrich and include some fine current color pictures to compliment the wonderful vintage B&W photos, that would have made it perfect, but this is close enough. Congradulations to the authors for this fine piece of work.

1. I bought this book while still a student in architecure school. After many, many years of professional practice I still regularly pull this book off my shelf when I need a jolt out of "designer's block".
   
   This book is a reference tool and nothing else. It contains many reference sketches from a variety of architectural elements including but not limited to plan form layouts, facade massing elements, door and window surround details.
   
   It is not highly detailed in terms of each and every line and form. It is however highly useful for forms and massing. Just what the designer sometimes needs to generate an idea when design ideas don't seem to be forthcoming easily. I have actually used sketches for say a gate and then adapted an idea developed from it to formulate an entry detail unrelated to a gate. Often the finished idea does not look like the sketch found in this book from which it originated...but then that is the idea of a designer...sometimes all we need is as concept or spark of an idea to let our imiginations develop it into the final product.
   
   Of all the architectual books I own (and there are many) this one has been used by me the most.



2. As an artist, long have I looked for books helping to graphically show in simple detail elements of architecture. Perfect for medieval to pre-industrial societies, designing literally everything structural. A must resource for village and city design, if only there were more like this. Less text, tons of graphics, all straight and simple, clean lines, clear and useable well thought out pieces for difficult puzzles.

1. Landscapes leave their imprint on human beings. It's the basic intention of this book to make the reader understand landscape as a phenomenon situated between the two (seemingly) opposite poles of nature and culture and, to make us experience the necessity for a sustainable ecological preservation and development of nature through the intervention of art. This is evidenced by a multitude of examples with great illustrations, easy to grasp in the first chapters of the book and becoming increasingly complex and diverse thereafter, particularly in the last part which deals with integrative landscape art. As important and meaningful as the illustrations are the essays compiled in this book. In many respects they provide the fundament for understanding the various images and provide access to the ideas of ecological aesthetics. Although the book may primarily be directed towards artists, art and cultural scientists it is eventually a stimulus for reflexion and an aesthetic joy also for people who, like me, are not active in the art business.
