3 comments about Royal Doulton Bunnykins Collectors Book.

  1. I wish I had read the first review of the book more closely. I have just begun to collect Bunnykin figures and hoped to get a book with more information on the different figures. This book only has four pages of figures listed and this includes information for Shapeware. It is quite helpful in letting me know that there is so much more out there in the Bunnykins world. If you wish to collect ALL aspects of the Bunnykin world, then this book is for you.

  2. The story behind the Bunnykins creator was very interesting. Included were great colour photos of the various scenes depicted on the dinnerware. Unfortunately, the book provided almost no information on the bunnykins figurines, nor did it offer any guidelines for the value($) of pieces.

  3. Beautiful colored bunnykins scenes (approx 300)on Royal Doulton Bunnykins plates, mugs, and bowls etc. Great information for collectors, especially if bidding for items in auctions. Artist's names listed with introduction dates.

1 comments about ABC of Bookbinding: An Illustrated Glossary of Terms for Collectors and Conservators.

  1. There are several sections in this book including a glossary, an evolution of bookbinding styles, descriptions of historical bookbinding (time and place) and information about actual bookbinders through history.

Jane Greenfield provides a comprehensive glossary for anyone interested in bookbinding. Her small illustrations capture and describe the terminology beautifully.

Not designed as a primary resource, the sections about specific historical periods are overviews. Other books will provide more in-depth information.

3 comments about Araki by Araki.

  1. This book is heavy, thick, very well printed and in a beautifull box...
The content is basically what I was looking for: a little bit from all his work, in high quality prints.
So, i't's nice if you are looking for "ONE" book about Araki's work.
The bad part is that the order of the pics is nosense, I thinks this is because Araki thinks that the "time" and moment where the pic was done is irelevant.

  2. if you like japanese bondage and dirty old man type of stuff this book is for you. I can't really comment on this book because it's just not my thing. i see what dude is going for but i wasn't that interested. tying girls up, trying to make fruit and flowers look like genitalia. not real fun for me. but that's what he's known for. he does it here. if you're a fan im sure you'll like it if not, you could easily pass on this book

  3. Araki, currently Japan's most notarized and sought photographer, blurs the line between obscenity and art. However there is no denying that ALL of his works are photographed with the precision and skill that can challenge even the works of Robert Mapplethorp.

This particular book, assembled by Taschen, is perfectly executed. All facets of Araki's work are prominently displayed. The cityscapes flow with the eye's movement, the images of flowers are so sharp your nose will be fooled, the nudes capture the models' spirit, and most importantly works from Araki's first book "Sentimental Journey" and "Winter Journey" (images of his marriage, honeymoon & death of his wife) are contained within and elicit emotion like no other.

I highly recommend this publication for anyone who has a serious interest in Erotica, art and/or photography. Again these images are not for the faint of heart: fornication, S & M, prostitution, deprivation, are just to name a few of the subjects!

5 comments about William Blake: The Complete Illuminated Books.

  1. William Blake - a genius before his time - created powerful words and images. Reading his works, and studying his pictures, will have a positive effect on your ability to design and communicate. Since purchasing this book, I've found increased attention to details, ways to eliminate clutter, a better ability to write succinctly and creative ways of looking at problems. I recommend this book for all readers wishing to improve their communication, design and creative skills. You won't be disappointed.

  2. Where is a good book on Blake that has color large reproductions of his actual paintings and not just his illuminated books?? Sigh. I love Blake, but am not happy with this book so I returned it.

  3. This beautiful paperback volume consists of high quality reproductions of Blake's original illustrated books. It is an incredible bargain. The pictures are powerful and Blake intended the pictures and the texts to illumine each other. I've never disciplined myself to sit down and read the text from the engraved script; its not easy or natural since the print on many plates is small and faint; but it would be worth the effort. However, there is a type face version of all the poems in the back, to refer to when needed to make out a word. This is an essential book for anyone seeking to understand Blake's profound prophetic vision more deeply.

  4. The writing is fine, but naked people? No, it's not penthouse by any stretch of the imagination, but I still won't have this book about my house with children!

  5. While many people are familiar with William Blake's poetry, if only through the handful of commonly anthologized short poems from grade school & high school English classes, this is how his work was meant to be experienced: the poetry in union with the art, creating a vision far greater & more deeply moving than the sum of its already impressive parts. The words literally flow, twine, blossom in vivid & startling color, woven into the intricate, symbolic artwork. There aren't enough superlatives for this edition, which enables everyone to finally see & feel the Universe as Blake did: ablaze with power, wonder, beauty, horrors, and the godlike beings of the human psyche, titantic aspects transcending any neat, pre-packaged psychological or symbolic labels. For anyone wanting insight into the soul of Western civilization over the past few centuries, the soul in which we all struggle to find meaning & purpose now, this volume is absolutely essential. Most highly recommended!

1 comments about Scrye Collectible Card Game Checklist & Price Guide (Scrye Collectible Card Games Checklist and Price Guide).

  1. I like the item. My only problem with it was the fact that it only covered a certain time peroid for the CCG that i was collecting at the time. This meant that i didn't have the entire lists of all the sagas in the CCG. Other than that it was a great help for what i was looking for. I recommend this product to others and hope they enjoy it as much as I did.

2 comments about The Illuminated Manuscript.

  1. This is a great book for someone just developing an interest in illuminated manuscripts. Its primarily a picture book, but also contains a lot of information on the how's and whys of these beautiful books and is easy to refer back to. The author is English so a good many of the plates are from English books, however she does include works from other parts of Europe as well. Worth the rather meager investment, as I'm sure this thin volume will stay on my book shelf for a very long time.

  2. Covering a wide span of time and styles, from the Lindisfarne Gospels (Interlace, c 700) to Italian neo-classical revival in the early 1500s, this book provides a good overview of the subject. Written for the layman rather than the scholar, it nevertheless has an informative introduction on manuscript creation. Since there are examples from 70 manuscripts, descriptions of each are necessarily brief, but still interesting. It is a pity that not all the illlustrations are in colour, but there are still many good-quality colour plates at or near full-size.

This is definitely one to have on the shelf.
