5 comments about Old-Fashioned Halloween Cards: 24 Cards.
- I ordered this booklet of postcards for my boyfriend because he loves vinatge halloween postcards and other collectibles. I was surprised when I received this booklet because it has 6 pages with 4 postcards on each and they are perforated for easy removal and are very glossy. My only complaint is that I would want the postcards to be heavier stock i fear of them tearing or crumpling in the mail. I would recommend getting two of these books, one to tear out the cards and mail them to friends and family and the other to keep as a coffee table book. It will surely bring back memories of Halloween and keep your friends talking about old memories. I was very impressed with this buy as was my boyfriend. :-)I definetly recommend it!
- These old-fashioned Halloween cards are spooktacular enough to make any recipient smile. A great way to say Happy Halloween in style!
- If you like old fashioned Halloween graphics this book is for you. The format is made to allow you to tear out the cards. If you can bear to part with these gorgeous cards they can be send US mail. Or if you love Halloween as I do you will want to keep these to use as inspiration in costumes and perhaps decorating. Very pretty graphics.
- I was thrilled when these arrived.
They are so lovely I almost wish I had ordered another set to cut out and use while saving the other.
The cards are a nice quality stock and have a shiny finish to them.
The colors are bright and cheerful.
I am beyond pleased.
- 4 postcards per page, printed in beautiful rich color on heavy stock. perforations between cards - you will probably want to use a paper trimmer to get a nicer edge before using them. A nice variety of wonderful vintage halloween designs featuring children. great for postcards, or as decor!

5 comments about Antique Trader Book Collector's Price Guide (Antique Trader Book Collectors Price Guide).
- The expanded new edition of a classic book collector's market guide provides full color and plenty of detail, updating prices for over 5,000 books and using charts to help identify first editions --which can be a tricky process, as publisher's marks vary from publisher to publisher. A new chapter on children's books has been added, while Top Ten lists of rarities and an alpha listing by author makes it quick and easy to use this as a take-along tote for flea market ventures.

- I bought, then returned this book. It may be a fine book for some but the word "Antique" in the title is deceptive. I am interested in antique books. Considering the fact that books have been published for centuries, a shotgun listing of books of relatively recent vintage may serve some well but was useless to me. Sorry, Mr. Russell. Better lose the "Antique Trader" title if you have another printing.
- Lighten up a little, guys. The book is THREE years old, fer chrissakes! NO book, even Ahreans, is going to cover everything AND continually be up-to-date on the fluctuations of the market (and market values), but each reference book you purchase adds a little something to your knowledge based, and this one does as well. The chapter on pseud.s adds yet another dimension to the book seller's (and/or collector's) knowledge.
- This book is very helpful to me as I buy and sell used books.
- So many times I have purchased books that promise the information I will need to be knowledgable about a subject. And so many times it is an empty promise.
Antique Trader Book Collector's Price Guide makes no empty promises. It's filled with accessible information that informs the reader on this complex subject. I've not found one easier to use. If you are interested in collecting or selling books, this guide belongs in your library.

5 comments about Halloween: Vintage Holiday Graphics (Icons).
- I was expecting this book to not only show vintage graphics but also a description of each graphic, but to my dissappoitment it does not include any text. Also, the binding cuts off a lot of the pictures and makes it difficult to open completely flat.
That being said, this is a wonderful book with interesting photos. I would definetly recommend this to someone looking for a picture book, but definetly not to someone who is looking for descriptions and origins of these fascinating graphics.
This book includes pictures of children on halloween, postcards, and old advertisements from the 1900's-1960's.
- This book is packed with great vintage illustrations from Halloweens past. As an artist who is heavily inspired buy Halloween imagery this book has been invaluable. I actually ended up wearing mine to pieces. But for the price it's really hard to complain. A little book glue and it's as good as new. This book is one of my favorite in my collection. Definitely worth the cheap price tag for anyone who is into this kind of thing.
- I really enjoyed this book of vintage Halloween goodies and images - some I still have from the time I was a small child (I won't tell how long ago that was!!). A true enjoyment for the favorite party-time ever! Makes me want to say "Merry Halloween" to everyone - a commonly used title on the really old cards/images.
- A couple of the graphics stood out, most weren't very interesting. A lot of vintage ads with no real artistic value.
- I love looking through this book, Halloween is my favorite holiday and these old graphics make me feel all nostalgic. I even got one of the pictures tattooed on my back shoulder. Cool book.

5 comments about A Book Lover's Diary.
- I gave this journal to my brother for his birthday and he loved it! I looked through it and liked it so much I bought one for myself. Perfect for any book lover. I have always wanted to keep track of books I've read, heard about, or loaned out. This is the perfect tool to do just that!
- I bought a copy of A Book Lover's Diary several years ago in Colonial Williamsburg. I recently bought a copy for my sister. Not only do I record all books I have purchased but list books I have heard about and would like to remember to read. I enjoy looking back at all that I have read.
- I bought this book as a gift for a friend based on the great categories it has to offer for recording book information. I was so disappointed to find that the spaces allowed for writing are so small. Also, the book is hard to navigate. The hard cover and hard binding don't allow for anyone to write it in it (inflexible). I gave it as a gift still, but I had to apologize for what a cruddy book it was.
- I purchased A Book Lover's Diary a few months back, and I am so glad I did. It is the perfect addition to my growing library!
A Book Lover's Diary is a small hardcover book that has lots of room for the various lists, that are essential to book collecting. Books you want, books you have read, favorite books, etc. It even has space to add if you have lent your books out and to whom so you can keep track of who is borrowing them. I think that is a great feature.
But, what I believe is the best feature is that is is small enough to put in my purse when I go out. I don't know how many times I have gone to the book store and forgotten what books I want to read, due to the fact that there are so many. With A Book Lover's Diary with me, I have it all down on paper! Which makes my book hunting that much more simple!
I would buy this book again in a heartbeat, and whole-heartedly recommend it for any book lovers out there!
- This diary offers many different ways for you to record books that you love. You can build a list of books you really want to read or buy. This list can go by author, title, or subject. You can build a list of books you have read by author, title, or subject that you have read and write a small review. This diary is a compliment to the two books Book Lust and More Book Lust. Great for adults as well as for the older elementary age child up through college. Have fun recording all you read as well as what you want to read or buy in the future.

5 comments about Miniature Books: 4,000 Years of Tiny Treasures.
- Very well written book, the pictures are visually stunning and so intruiging for those who love books.
- Very readable, loaded with information and ravishing actual-size photos of tiny books through the ages to the present. The authors transmit their enthusiasm for the history and aesthetics of miniatures. Some of these books are made of tooled and embosssed leather, others resemble jeweled lockets, and their workmanship is spectacular. An excellent source book even for the general reader, and especially readers who are drawn to miniatures.
- What I found delightful in this survey were the books from the recent past. Obviously the authors rightly cover historical items (and with beautiful photos, too) but books right up to the turn of the new century are included.
Some of these really look beautiful like the 1988 colorful polycarbonate covers from Maurice Dufrene's `Florilegium' or the wraparound cover to Frank Dobie's 1979 `White Mustang', created with several different leathers. Both books are only two and a half inches tall.
The nine chapters, in words and images, give an overview of tiny tomes and it was nice to see that most of the books features are displayed actual size. Perhaps missing from the text was a brief description of how many of the books were printed. There is an interesting photo on page 106 of an uncut sheet from 1752 `London Almanack' showing twenty pages (and a gatefold of the Archbishop of Canterbury's Palace) which were no problem to print but the precision was in the binding such small items, if the craftsmen were a fraction out part of a page could easily be missing. Judging by the amount of commercially printed books included from the last hundred or so years binding machinery can handle small pages easily.
The last chapter covers oddities including a 1991 German medical companies little book with a dummy heart pacemaker as part of the package. A sidebar is devoted to hidden paintings, printed or individually artist painted, on the fanned out fore pages. `A Small Book of Flies' printed in 1983 includes actual fishing flies (under a piece of glass) in a book two and three quarter inches by one and three quarters.
It is this coverage of books besides the usual fine art ones that made the book come alive for me. Incidentally the production is first class, with gold blocking on three sides (when was the last time you saw that on a book?) printed in 175dpi screen and a handy silk bookmark.

- Rare book dealer Anne C. Bromer teams up with scholarly bibliophile and book collector Julian I. Edison (who for more than 40 years has served as the editor of 'Miniature Book News') to present "Miniature Books: 4,000 Years Of Tiny Treasure". This is an elegantly illustrated, 216-page compendium showcasing tiny books showcased in an exhibition at The Grolier Club which, founded in 1884, is America's oldest and largest society for bibliophiles and enthusiasts in the graphic arts. Featuring more than 260 full-color photographic illustrations of miniature books (being 3 inches or smaller in size) from around the world, the examples proffered range from Shakeseare's plays, to Christian bibles, to children's books, to all manner of fiction. Some of these are gemmed, tooled, locked, illuminated, and a few are illustrated by such legendary artists as Picasso, Miro, and Gorey. A work of impressive scholarship and research by Bromer and Edison, "Miniature Books" is a bibliophile's treat and would make a superb Memorial Fund acquisition selection for academic and community library collections.
-
Miniature books, those tiny treasure measuring not over three inches in height, length or width, have fascinated for some 4,000 years. Some of these books as those exhibited recently in Toledo, Spain, are so small that they can only be seen through a magnifying glass. Current prices for these books vary, and some dealers specialize in them. Today, there is a miniature book society, an international non-profit organization, providing a forum for collectors and interested parties.
Now, everything you wanted to know and more is available in this compact, beautifully illustrated volume by rare book dealer Anne C. Bromer and collector Julian I. Edison. The book is dedicated to Stanley Marcus, an avid collector of miniature books and contains a foreword by him in which he said that miniature book collecting gave him the greatest pleasure. He also noted that these small volumes "enlarged my field of knowledge to a wide variety of subjects ranging from pornography to philosophy, religious topics to small books for children." And so it is for aficionados.
Richly illustrated, Miniature Books includes chapters devoted to illuminated manuscripts, religious topics, politics, children's literature, and more. In addition, there are listings of sources for miniature books as well as mention of those in libraries.
Author Bromer notes that she first laid eyes on miniature books some 35 years ago and has been entranced with them since them. So have many - enjoy!

- Warman's Little Golden Books: Identification And Price Guide
Steve Santi is THE MAN when it comes to Little Golden Books (LGBs). And this 6th Edition of his definitive guide is THE BOOK for all lovers and collectors of the little treasures. Very well-laid out with chapters on The Historyof LGBs, Regular, Disney, Giant, First, Big, Little, Foreign and other book series. Excellent photos of almost every single LGB, extensive detail of multiple editions, advice for grading and identifying editions, back cover and spine designs.
This book is one I refer to and browse through often, and I recommend it most highly to all lovers of children's picture books.
- "Warman's Little Golden Books" is a definitive 256 page guide and reference which identifies and prices over 2000 chidren's Little Golden books from 1942 to 2006. It is in full color, with simply wonderful cover illustrations of each book to complete its identification. For everyone who has ever enjoyed the Little Golden Books, this is an impressive and nostalgic guide to help you find, identify, price, sell, or acquire your childhood Little Golden Book treasures. "Warman's Little Golden Books" is clearly Steve Santi's labor of love and an impressive contribution to the "retro" children's book market collector. It is an excellent reference and a offer a delightful, bonus, and pleasantly nostalgic walk down memory lane.

2 comments about A French Alphabet Book of 1814: For Alfred Bourdier De Beauregard, Created by his uncle Arnaud at the Chateau DeBeaumoont De Beauregard.
-
but the drawings are a delight. Uncle Arnaud created this charming volume of water colors in 1814 as an alphabet primer for his two-year-old nephew Alfred. Napoleon was on Elba, and the formerly exiled King Louis XVIII was in power. The views include the family chateau and its surrounding landscape and the elegantly furnished interior: kitchens, chapel, workshops, wine cellar, and stables. The book includes detailed drawings of other types of buildings - palaces, churches, cottages and barns.
The book also focuses on nephew Alfred. His clothing and pastimes are minutely illustrated. There are images of his instruction in polite manners, music, and the arts. Altogether Uncle Arnaud drew nearly 300 watercolors.
The pages are filled with puns and French captions. Many of these have been translated into the English, and the book contains an excellent French to English dictionary of words and terms of the period.
Charles Plante, a London art and antique dealer, acquired the book from a Parisian dealer who "bought it directly from one of the family members of the chateau." Plante writes: "I think it did more than train the young nephew about life in the chateau. It's telling him about the larger picture and perhaps things to come in his life, and that's one of the reasons why it survived. It was very much a treasured object within the family."
Plante's researches lead him to believe their limited militaristic flavor speaks to the alienation of the French aristocracy from the Revolution. Wordplay and visual humor abound. A theater is placed next to a metal bathtub, or "baignoire", a word that also meant "theater pit." A chamber pot looms under a bed. An infant, an aged man, a skeleton with a scythe, an hourglass and other objects seem to warn of the fleeting nature of time. A whip and a razor in a grouping of toys convey an ominous note.
Plante writes that juxtaposition of many of the objects doesn't make sense to him or to other historians. "The picture may become clearer as more research is done. Or in fact it may be rather simplistic and they're all things that the nephew would have come in contact with in the chateau or come to learn about in life. The more I look at it the more I learn from it. I think that's what has given a lot of people pleasure. And its naive charm adds a whole other dimension to one's interpretation of what is art."
I found this a fascinating insight into the life of the aristocracy after the French Revolution.
- Really a wonderful book with great graphics. Got the title from the Movable Book Society. If you like pop-ups JOIN.

5 comments about Atlas Maior of 1665.
- This sits on my coffee table and is a great companion to watching any sort of historical documentary on TV etc. Also makes for good cocktail party reading/conversation.
I've seen an original copy of this in the NYPL and this printing is true to form, with insightful tidibits and good translations extras.
The Bleau Atlas Major is the most beatiful and prolific atlases ever made.
- Johan Blaauw's incredibly large atlas - a marvel of cartography -, in a glorious edition by Taschen. The combination of full page reprints and overviews with commentary makes for one of the most luscious books I ever saw. Mesmerizing!
- I bought the Barnes and Noble edition and save 80%. That being said the B&N version is smaller and harder to read. It is also 100 pages shorter, which is why I gave it only 4 stars. Nevertheless I found the book fascinating. But the maps were so interesting I felt a little cheated not getting the other 100 pages. I guess I'll go to this book store where they have a big one displayed compare it to mine. Also the full $100+ volume is so big the box it comes in has a handle to carry it!
- I echo previous reviewers in saying this is a great book.
For those wondering about a Barnes & Noble reprint of this atlas and its relationship to this edition:
(1) The B&N edition is reduced in size quite a bit (13.5 x 9 inches versus 18 x 12 inches) making the text of some maps much too small to read.
(2) The B&N edition is missing roughly 100 pages from the map section (about 25%). The layout for the remaining pages is pretty much identical to the original.
(3) The B&N edition only contains the introduction in English; the original, larger edition has a multilingual intro. The captions of the maps in both editions are multilingual.
That said, the B&N edition is roughly 1/5 of the price, so if you're not using this as a serious reference book, it's worthwhile considering the cheaper alternative. The B&N edition is still a great "coffee table book" (in fact, a more reasonable one given its smaller--though still quite massive--size and weight).
- The quality of the pics of this book is wonderful. Several images just need a frame to decorate your wall.
You will spend hours looking any detail of the book. It makes a wonderful gift or addition to a collection. Highly recommended.
This is wonderful a coffee Table book. Buy it now!
