5 comments about Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot (Barron's).
- There is a lot of interesting information for beginners. It focus on elements of environment and human behavor that influence our parrot bahavior. The text is well organised so it's easy to go clearly where we are interest to. Paragraphs are relatively short so isn't tired to reat at.
- I actually wasn't as impressed with this book as I thought I would be. I was hoping for lots of options and things to try to help out a few different behavioral issues, but found very few that sounded like they would work for my birds. Read the book cover to cover and although I loved the pictures, and learned one or two things, I was expecting many more techniques and tips.
- This is an amazing book! There are so many tips and suggestions for correcting or preventing bad behaviors in birds. The ideal time to read this would be before even bringing the parrot home, but it is a must read for all bird owners. The parrot world is evolving and new things are being learned all the time.....read it to learn!!!!
- I am new to parrots and this book literally takes you by the hand and addresses whatever issue you are having. I highly recommend it.
- My hubbie decided to petsit his uncle's macaw but we had no idea why she acted the way she did. She would screech loudly, try to bite us, & if we tried to get her down from our shoulder she would run to our back. We needed information. This book didn't disappoint! Chapter 2 was a treasure trove of information. It had games you could play with your parrot, also how to get your parrot to stop biting. The wobble correction method is what we have been using. Chapter 3 was about developing behavior patterns. This chapter was great in helping us realize height does matter. We were letting Baby D(parrot's name) get on our shoulder and also letting her roam on the top of her cage. She was getting very aggresive and we couldn't understand why.Letting her spend time in places that were high was making her think she was the boss. Chapter 5 Common behavior problems talks about dealing with screaming, chewing, and boredom in birds. It also talks more about the height factor. Chapter 7 talks about reading parrot body language and the pitfalls of leaving your parrot home alone all day.
I learned alot by this book. Parrots are alot of responsibility but they are also lovable. I know they have times when they screech and scream but if you follow this book you should you should have a better behaved parrot most of the time. I see some impovement already in baby D. This book has loads of information that should help you understand all about your new parrot.

5 comments about Parrots For Dummies (For Dummies (Pets)).
- Being a first time parrot owner I have referred to this book countless times. I have a male Eclectus parrot who is now nearly a year old and I attribute part of his good health and safety to this book's wisdom. Written in a clear and concise (and sometimes very funny) fashion, it has answered 90% of the questions I have had regarding feeding; bathing; problem solving; what to and NOT to worry about with my parrot. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
- This is a well done book. (As all of the "dummie" books have been for me so far. Whats great is you can use the same knowledge for other bird types. i would highly consider this if your a new parrot owner. A 5!
- I have many of the DUMMIE books and this is probably my favorite. I have many pets including birds for many years and still learned quite a bit from this book.
- This book is helping me to understand birds. Long ago when I had parakeets, there wasn't much written at all and well, the internet just didn't exist. This book has been a tremendous help to me, understanding the whys and whats of keeping a companion bird! I love my FIDS!
- I found this book to be well written and very easy to understand. For someone who has had companion birds for more than 20 years, I found this book to contain a wealth of information. The tips throughout the book are quite helpful and the stories from the author add a personal touch. This book will be an excellent resource for me for many years to come.

5 comments about Teaching Your Bird to Talk.
- Teaching Your Bird to Talk
An in-depth book that provides very useful information.
- I am not quite finished with this book yet, but I am very pleased with the information and how it is presented in this book. I have read several other books on Parrots and this is by far the best one. There is more information than just teaching your bird to talk.
I highly recomment this book to anyone who owns a parrot with the potential to talk!
- I waited more than six months after I bought this book to try the techniques inside it before I wrote my review. Although I was using some methods mentioned inside the book but this book encouraged me to keep using them and also adds some amazing methods and ideas that were very helpful, useful and easy to imply. Simply, my old African Grey Parrot started to talk, and that was my fist experience in such thing and I really feel grateful to this book and to the efforts inside it. I am giving four stars since I feel some information are ideas need proves rather than facts. However, aiming to make your African talk, buy this book and be patient.
- A wonderful reference and book guide for teaching a Quaker Parrot to talk.
- When I bought this book I thought I was buying a book that would help me teach my parrot to talk. Although I do know that there are no guarantees about which bird will talk and what method works, I wanted tips and advice on how to help my parrot learn.
This books gives no such information. It covers why parrots talk, which parrots talk and lots of stories about talking parrots, but no real information on teaching my bird to talk. The only chapter I liked was the one about the Model/Rival-method, which is a detailed chapter on teaching a parrot to talk with cognition, understanding the words it uses. However, the bird must alredy be talking for this method to work.
What I wanted was an answer to these questions: Do constant, out of context, repetitions work? Does plaing a casette work? Would it help to have talking sessions? Does my tone of voice matter? How can I get my bird to talk more clearly? How can I get my bird to talk in front of strangers?

5 comments about Cockatiels for Dummies.
- REALLY enjoyed this book. Good for beginners and vets. Learned things even after owning birds for 10 years.
- When I received two cockatiels from a rescue organization, my vet suggested I read this book. In a couple months, I was able to train my foster birds so that both were adopted. Very helpful.
- This book has pretty much all the information you'll ever need to know about owning a cockatiel. It has some great tips, and essentials that any owner would need to know. I would recommend it to anyone thinking about getting a new cockatiel, or to anyone that just acquired a new cockatiel and needs to know the basics.
- There couldn't be a better person to simplify cockatiel ownership into a "For Dummies" book than Diane Grindol. She is the author of "The Complete Book of Cockatiels," which you will want to get to complete your education if this one whets your appetite. The book is organized in an especially helpful way, listing first the joys of cockatiel ownership, then the hazards and diseases, then finishing up with a summary of do's and don'ts. In the process, you'll learn the not-so-obvious differences between males and females, the importance of diet, the gauntlet of avian diseases, setting up the cage, travel, grooming...in short, everything you'll need to know. When you reach the end of this informative and readable book, you will never view a cockatiel the same again. You will see complexity, fragility, intellect, and camaraderie, where before you saw only ornate plumage. If you read this book in preparation for cockatiel ownership, your new friend will find hundreds of ways to thank you.
- Book was very informative. My son, who was the recipiant of a cockateil, read through it with fevor and injested so much inforamtion which he shares with us at the dinner table and through out the day.

5 comments about Audubon's Birds Of America (The Audubon Society Baby Elephant Folio).
- This "baby elephant folio" is indeed a tiny but complete book of Audubon's "Birds of America." It is a perfect edition to give as a gift to friends and family who are Audubon aficionados. It is great quality and the price can't be beat; I purchased several.
- Having recently read the biography of Audubon, I was very interested in seeing the actual drawings. The book I read had a few of them in black and white, but I wanted to see a larger sample in color. I decided to see if Amazon had anything and was very surprised to see that they offered all of the original drawings in color for a very small price. I realized the book would be smaller than the original life size drawings, but was a little surprised to find that the book was so small. That is my main problem with the book. Otherwise - WOW. To see these birds in all their glory in full color is just breathtaking. Furthermore, when you consider the original size, to have shrunk them down and still maintain the detail and the beauty is quite impressive. One can appreciate the drawings without having read about Audobon's struggle to create and then publish them, but I would suggest this book as a companion to a good biography of Audobon. Once you have both, his accomplishment can be fully appreciated.
- This book is spectacular. The images are breathtaking, and the quality of their presentation is nothing short of superb. Wow!!!
- Let me qualify my remarks by first saying that I have not even seen this version. I have no doubt that the printing is of the highest quality, but I have a serious reservation about the organization of this book. Audubon deliberately mixed his birds in a non-taxonomic order to maintain a freshness and an element of suprise. I recently acquired a large format copy published by Welcome Rain, which follows Audubon's original order. The effect is a delightful romp through nature, full of suprises, drama and movement. He never intended it to be a catalog with all his ducks in a row, it was to be an experience. I have seen an abridged, small format edition of his paintings arranged in the standard, dull taxonomic order of a typical field guide and the effect is nothing like seeing them in the order Audubon intended. Rearranging the plates for convenience of listers diminishes this work, and to a certain extent, is a disservice to the artist. While I am happy to see that his work remains in print and is being reproduced at very high standards, I would hope that it would be viewed as a symphony, not as a random collection of notes needing to be organized alphabetically.
- If you are a birder and you collect all the great bird books, your collection is not complete until you get this. A beautiful book, contained in a hard case, with excellent printing. A steal at $250 at its original price, now knocked down between $125 to $185. Get this book! A great tribute to Peterson and Audubon.

- The descriptions and pictures and great is this book. Might get a little complicated sometimes but glad I bought it!
- This book was a godsend for me. I was blessed with a beautiful 19 year old parrot that was given to me. Fortunately I found this book. It addressed all of our problems. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for advice.
- This is a great book dealing with parrot training. People can find any information for various problems relating to parrot behaviorism.
- I'm so glad I purchased this book. It gave me the information I need to raise a happy, well-adjusted bird. The information on body language was quite helpful.
- there is a lot of information in this book.

5 comments about Guide to Companion Parrot Behavior.
- This book is well written and extremely informative. A must have for any parrot owner. It is one of those books you can read and then re-read and learn something new each time. It's great as a reference book.
The techniques it suggests are simple and logical and can be applied to any species. It also would be a great book to read to help you choose which type of parrot would be best for your personal circumstances, especially if you are thinking about getting one of the larger parrots.
- I agree with all of the other raving reviews on this book. The book is well organized, the parrots are organized by continent (Africa, Austrailia, Asia, and S. America) and the author draws similarities between the types of birds from each area. As the title would suggest this book focuses on behavior and gives well defined characteristics of each type of bird, while emphasizing that they are generalizations and that each bird might be different. The author reiterates that the owner should not buy a bird with preconcieved ideas of what they will be like, but love each bird for thier individual personality. All over excellent information and the author is clearly an expert in the area.
- Together with the other parrot-thematic books from the same author it is the hardware of information I have used. I have an african grey for three years now and at the beginning I made a search for every available information about the topic.
So it happens that this books I liked most as they are easy to understand, easy to read and enjoyable illustrated.
African Grey is a parrot which needs time and you have to keep in mind that he may outlive you by years. So what you teach him now will be remembered in 60years when your children will keep him a company.
It is a responsibility but a nice one:)
Yes, I can recommend to you.
- For the person interested in different species of pet birds, their care and personalities, this book offers a generic overview. As an experienced bird "person" I was looking for a more in-depth description of a specfic species. I almost put it down without finishing until I paged to the individual stories of the different parrots. I enjoyed reading the stories of the different birds, their experiences, histories and especially how the newer owners understood and created a more fulfilling environment (love, care and concern)for them. I learned new methods of dealing with birds and appreciate any new method for understanding bird behavior. I would recommend this book for the beginner/intermediate bird lover but for the very experienced bird lover, they would do better to find a publication that discribes just one species. However, they would miss the wonderful stories in this book!
- This book really gives you a good introduction to the various kinds of parrots that are available. It describes their habits and tendencies so that it makes it easier to choose a new parrot or understand your current friend.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for their first parrot or for an addition to their family.

5 comments about Newman's Birds of Southern Africa.
- I've been using this guide in Southern Africa for the last 6 years, and it's never let me down. Great book for those traveling to the region, but keep in mind that most guides at the wildlife parks will already have a copy, so you could save the weight and space in your luggage.
- Excellent book with very good graphics and organization. Just what is needed to confirm your observations or identify your sightings.
- Have not actually been to southern Africa yet, but plan to do so next summer. I have been an avid birder for 3 decades, and it looks like the format of this book will be very useful for my trip.
- this is the best bird guide for birds of the region. I have carefully looked over others on the market.
- Now in a fully revised eighth edition, Newman's Birds Of Southern Africa is a field guide to 125 species of Southern African birds illustrated throughout with realistic full-color artwork. Each species has an entry with a map indicating their distribution, their common and scientific name, a brief paragraph with a basic physical description and notes on distinguishing characteristics, and a gorgeous, realistic color illustration. A revised introduction teaches the reader step-by-step how to use the guide to quickly identify avian species, and a glossary, index and birdwatching checklist round out this first-class resource. A treat for bird lovers due to the top-quality artistry alone, as well as being a quintessential identification guide, Newman's Birds Of Southern Africa is enthusiastically recommended for amateur birdwatchers and professional biologists alike.

2 comments about Breaking Bad Habits in Parrots: How Responsible and Sympathetic Parrot Care Can Prevent or Remedy Problem Behaviors.
- Uses insights on parrots' lives in the wild to help parrots in captivity. Many photos of beautiful parrots.
- Greg Glendell knows his stuff, as evidenced by this and all of his other writings. Just do a google search on this author and you will be amazed to find all of the most sensical remedies to problems that stem from having a wing clipped bird in captivity. His advice seems so simple but is deep seeded in ethological and ornithological principles. He is the UK's only full-time pet parrot behaviourist and the world would greatly benefit from several of his clones. If you are experiencing challenges with your companion parrot, buy this book and explore Mr. Glendell's website for more information. I can't sing his praises any louder!
